One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThere is no verified universal “best” video preset for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered on PC. The right balance depends on your hardware, output resolution, target frame rate and preference for image quality or smoothness. Start with your GPU’s supported features, then compare settings on your own system: CD PROJEKT RED says performance varies with the scene, configuration, settings and resolution.
Start with your platform and goal
Before changing graphics options, identify your platform, output resolution, graphics hardware and display capabilities. Decide whether you want steadier frame rates or more demanding visual features. A setting recommendation without those details can mislead: the developer says higher output resolution significantly affects PC frame rate, and its published performance figures are test targets rather than guarantees for every system.

- Console: Use the options and targets documented for your exact console and mode; do not apply a PS5 target to another platform.
CD PROJEKT RED released Remastered on September 29, 2026. The release includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and the upgrade is free for qualifying owners on listed storefronts and platforms, with entitlement varying by ecosystem. See the release announcement.
PC video settings: what to prioritize
Choose rendering features with your performance budget in mind
The Remastered PC version uses native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading. Its visual options and changes include updated tone mapping, GTAO ambient occlusion, ray-traced local shadows, revised screen-space reflections and shadows, HDR calibration changes, and updated lighting and material rendering. The feature notes do not quantify the frame-rate cost of each individual option, so treat demanding effects as choices to measure rather than assuming a particular preset is optimal. Read the official Remastered feature notes.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
Path tracing and ray tracing are advanced rendering choices, not interchangeable names for a universal quality level. The official PC performance estimates for ray tracing and path tracing use an upscaler set to Auto; the path-tracing configuration also enables Frame Generation. Those assumptions matter when interpreting the published figures: they do not establish how the game will perform with different hardware, resolution, settings or upscaler choices. The PC requirements page notes that performance can vary by scene, system and settings. Check CD PROJEKT RED’s PC requirements and support information.
Use the upscaler your GPU supports
The official feature notes list NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, and Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. FSR 4 is listed for Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer; unsupported GPUs use FSR 2. The documentation does not provide a controlled, cross-vendor quality or performance ranking. Choose only an option available on your hardware, then compare image quality and smoothness at your chosen output resolution.

Update the basics before tuning
- Storage: An SSD is required for the latest technical enhancements, according to CD PROJEKT RED.
- Operating system: The support page says Windows 10 is no longer officially supported or tested. The game may still run, but future compatibility and performance are not guaranteed.
- Graphics drivers: The official feature notes advise installing the latest driver. Check the current driver release from your GPU vendor; NVIDIA’s separate recommendation is vendor guidance for its own hardware, not a neutral comparison across GPU brands.
The official PC requirements page includes performance estimates, but its requirement table is an image. Do not infer specific GPU tiers or expected frame rates from text that is not present in the page’s accessible table. Consult the current PC requirements page.

Console modes: use targets for the documented platform
| Platform and mode | Officially stated target or feature | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 Ray Tracing Mode | Targets 60 FPS | A documented target for Remastered on PS5, not a measured guarantee for every situation. |
| PS5 Performance Mode | Targets 60 FPS and up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays | The higher figure is scoped to displays that support variable refresh rate. |
| PS5 Pro | Adds PSSR, VRR and uncapped frame rates | The feature notes describe these additions; they do not establish a single frame rate for every display or scene. |
These current figures are from CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered feature notes. They should not be confused with the 2022 Next-Gen update: that earlier release described PS5 and Xbox Series X Ray Tracing Mode as targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode as targeting 60 FPS; Xbox Series S had Quality and Performance modes targeting 30 and 60 FPS, respectively, and no ray-tracing features. Those are historical figures, not the current Remastered guidance. Check the Remastered feature notes for current platform details and the 2022 Next-Gen notes for historical context.

A practical tuning sequence for PC
- Confirm your baseline. Note your output resolution, GPU, display refresh and VRR support, and the frame rate you want to sustain. Start with the game’s default settings.
- Choose standard rendering or an advanced ray-tracing/path-tracing option. If you enable an advanced feature, assess the frame-rate change on your own hardware rather than relying on an estimate configured with different upscaling or frame generation.
- Select an available upscaler. Use the option supported by your GPU, then compare its image quality and smoothness in representative gameplay.
- Change one demanding option at a time. The official notes do not supply per-setting performance costs, so changing several effects together makes it harder to identify what helped or hurt.
- Recheck at your actual output resolution. Lower-resolution results do not transfer directly to a higher resolution; the developer specifically identifies output resolution as a major influence on FPS.
What the evidence does—and does not—establish
Official documentation identifies the available rendering features, platform mode targets, system caveats and assumptions behind PC performance estimates. It does not establish a single best PC preset, a controlled ranking of DLSS, FSR and XeSS, or independent benchmark results across hardware. NVIDIA’s article discusses the game’s path tracing and DLSS 4.5 and recommends current GeForce drivers; treat that as NVIDIA’s vendor perspective. Read NVIDIA’s GeForce article.
