The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is a major upgrade over the original Nintendo Switch port, with sharper output, richer scenery and smoother character animation. But it is not a locked 40 fps experience: Digital Foundry’s analysis, as reported by Nintendo Life, describes dips in demanding scenes, while a separate hands-on review notes long loads and lingering combat quirks.
How much better does it look on Switch 2?
The clearest gains are in the world around Geralt. Digital Foundry’s technical findings, reported by Nintendo Life in October 2026, describe upgraded environment and character textures, more detailed environments, and background NPC animations that no longer jitter as they did on the original Switch. Nintendo Life’s separate hands-on review also praises the fuller foliage and more lifelike scenery.

Resolution is dynamic rather than fixed. According to Nintendo Life’s account of Digital Foundry’s measurements, the game renders between 540p and 1080p when docked, then uses DLSS to output at a 1080p target. In handheld mode, the reported render range is 360p to 720p, with a 720p output target. These are reported ranges, not a promise that every scene runs at the maximum resolution.
Image quality is not uniformly improved in every detail. The Nintendo Life reviewer found hair fuzzy and aliased, associating that appearance with DLSS. The upscaling helps deliver the stated output targets, but it does not make every fine edge look crisp.

What frame rate does it reach?
The reported cap is 40 fps on a 120 Hz display and 30 fps otherwise, in both docked and handheld play. Digital Foundry, as summarized by Nintendo Life, calls the 40 fps target “much too ambitious”: performance can fall in Novigrad and during fights with multiple enemies, wavering between 30 and 40 fps. CD PROJEKT RED’s pre-release announcement described a 30–40 fps target, which gives the broad range but does not independently confirm particular dips.
In practice, treat 40 fps as a ceiling the game may approach, not a stable rate. The Switch 2 version is a substantial step forward from the original port, but demanding scenes can still tax it.
What changes in play, and what still feels dated?
Nintendo Life’s hands-on review is distinct from Digital Foundry’s technical analysis. Its reviewer found Geralt’s movement less jittery and the controls more responsive, and recalled Roach getting stuck on terrain less often than in previous versions. The review also reports long loading times—especially in handheld mode—and about a one-second delay when opening the map or save menu.

What features and controls are included?
CD PROJEKT RED says the Remastered release adds enhanced textures, foliage and lighting, improved performance, revamped combat and animations, a reworked skill system, refreshed interface elements and, on supported platforms, cross-platform mod support. The game includes both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The company also lists updated monster behavior, transmogrification and an expanded photo mode. These are the publisher’s feature claims; they are separate from the technical measurements and review observations above.
Switch 2-specific input options include motion controls for aiming the crossbow, throwing bombs, casting signs, drinking potions and controlling Roach’s speed; gyro aiming; mouse controls; and touch-screen support for maps, menus and Gwent. A Pro Controller is optional: Nintendo Life’s reviewer preferred one, but also described the Switch 2-specific controls as usable.

Is the Switch 2 upgrade free, and what happens to saves?
CD PROJEKT RED says owners of the original Nintendo Switch version can claim the Switch 2 Remastered version at no extra cost. The publisher’s support FAQ says existing saves are compatible and previously earned achievements carry over. Because the skill system has been overhauled, skills reset when moving to the Remastered version. The FAQ says the free upgrade is unavailable in Russia and Belarus, so check the offer in your region before planning the transfer.

How to get the game and how much storage it needs
Nintendo Life reported the Switch 2 Remastered release as eShop-only at the time of its October 2026 article, with a 55 GB install. Distribution can change, so check the current eShop listing rather than assuming a physical Switch 2 edition is available. A physical copy of the original Switch edition is a different product; eligible owners can use it for the free upgrade path described by CD PROJEKT RED.
