Verdict: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is a substantial update, not just a path-tracing patch: it revises visuals, combat and usability, and includes both major expansions. Path tracing is a PC-only feature, but the available evidence does not establish which graphics card delivers the best experience or how it performs at native resolution. CD PROJEKT RED’s path-tracing configuration assumes upscaling and Frame Generation, so vendor performance figures should not be read as native-rendering results or guarantees.

Both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included, including for players who previously owned only the base game. The edition was developed in close collaboration with Yigsoft. CD PROJEKT RED says the project grew from work on the planned 2027 expansion Songs of the Past. The studio’s account of the project describes its origins and scope.

The update combines visual improvements with gameplay and interface revisions. CD PROJEKT RED highlights enhanced textures for environments, NPCs and monsters; reworked lighting, rendering and ray tracing; a reimagined skill system; improved combat; revised animations; a refreshed interface; and cross-platform mod support. That makes the release broader than a graphics upgrade, though the presence of a feature in the official notes does not by itself establish its image quality or performance on every device.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
On PC, the official feature notes list NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2 on Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer cards (FSR 2 is used on unsupported GPUs), and Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. These are supported technology descriptions, not independent comparisons of image quality, latency or frame pacing. The official feature notes detail the platform-specific changes.
Is path tracing available on consoles?
No. Path tracing is a PC feature. Console ray-tracing modes are separate options and should not be treated as equivalent to PC path tracing.
On PlayStation 5, the official notes describe multithreaded rendering. On PS5 Pro, they list PSSR, VRR and uncapped frame rates; the publisher says Ray Tracing Mode targets 60 FPS, while Performance Mode targets 60 FPS and can reach up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays. Those are publisher-described targets, not results independently measured here. Nintendo Switch 2’s additions include handheld, controller, motion-control and mouse-sensor playstyles, gyro aiming, touch input, Joy-Con 2 HD Rumble, handheld VRR and HDR. None of these console features turns the console version into the PC path-tracing mode.

CD PROJEKT RED’s PC requirements page separates Minimum, Recommended, Ultra, RT Minimum, RT Recommended and Path Tracing configurations. The detailed GPU tiers appear in an image on the support page, so the available text does not establish a specific minimum graphics card, resolution or target frame rate for path tracing. It would be misleading to name a GPU recommendation without checking that table directly.
The publisher says the game requires an SSD. It no longer officially supports Windows 10 following Microsoft and NVIDIA ending support for the operating system. The game may still run on Windows 10, but CD PROJEKT RED says it no longer develops or tests on that OS and cannot guarantee compatibility or performance. See the updated PC requirements for the publisher’s categories and qualifications.
How should you interpret path-tracing performance claims?
The requirements page says its expected FPS targets come from QA testing and can vary with the scene, gameplay, system configuration, settings and output resolution. Higher output resolution significantly affects FPS. It also distinguishes configurations that use upscaling from those at native resolution:
- RT Minimum, RT Recommended and Path Tracing use DLSS, FSR or XeSS set to Auto.
- The Path Tracing configuration specifically uses upscaling and Frame Generation.
- Other listed configurations use native resolution.
That qualification matters: a reported or expected frame rate for path tracing with generated frames is not a native-rendering result. It also cannot be directly compared with a different resolution, graphics preset, upscaler or console mode without accounting for those differences.

NVIDIA’s September 29, 2026 article says enabling path tracing and the Ultra+ preset automatically activates DLSS Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX GPUs. It also publishes selected performance estimates for RTX 50-series GPUs with specific resolutions and DLSS and frame-generation settings. Those are NVIDIA’s vendor-reported results, not independent benchmark measurements or promises about a particular player’s system. The NVIDIA feature and performance article provides its configuration context.
A useful comparison needs to identify the resolution, target frame rate, preset, ray tracing or path tracing setting, upscaling method and mode, Frame Generation status, and GPU. Comparing a generated-frame estimate against native output—or against a console mode—without those details can give a false impression of relative performance.

GamesRadar+’s September 29, 2026 PC review praises the visual improvements to environments and lighting, the revised skill system and several usability changes. The reviewer also reports occasional slowdowns in busy PC scenes and combat encounters. This is an attributed account of that reviewer’s launch-period experience, not a benchmark or a statement of the current performance state; hotfixes followed shortly after release. The review was conducted on PC using a code provided by the publisher. Read the GamesRadar+ review for its full assessment.
No independent, comparative benchmark results are established here for different GPUs, resolutions, upscalers or Frame Generation settings. The evidence supports neither a model-level graphics-card recommendation nor a claim about the best-value way to run path tracing.

Who should consider the Remastered edition?
For players who already own the game, first check the platform-specific upgrade terms: the publisher describes free upgrades on the listed PC stores and current consoles, and a separate free upgrade for original Nintendo Switch owners moving to the Switch 2 edition. For prospective players, the included expansions and gameplay revisions are part of the appeal alongside the graphics work.
For PC players specifically interested in path tracing, treat it as a demanding graphics option whose published configuration relies on upscaling and Frame Generation. Check the complete requirements table and compare results that match your GPU, resolution and chosen settings before buying hardware for it. The available evidence is enough to explain how the mode is configured, but not to select a graphics card or promise a particular frame rate.
