The steps and compatibility rules differ for some console transfers, so first identify whether you’re moving to a next-generation game or continuing the older version through backwards compatibility.
How to use Cross Progression
CD PROJEKT RED’s general instructions are to use the latest game patch. For the PS4-to-PS5 next-generation transfer, its instructions specify PS4 patch 4.04. Menu order varies by platform, especially on Switch.

- Update the source game. Install the latest patch for your platform before starting. For PS4-to-PS5 next-generation transfers, update the PS4 game to patch 4.04, as specified in CD PROJEKT RED’s next-generation transfer instructions.
- Link the source game to your CD PROJEKT RED account. On most platforms, open Load Game → Cross Progression and follow the account-linking prompts. If necessary, check that Cross Progression is enabled under Options → Gameplay. On Switch, start at My Rewards, then open Cross Progression from Load Game. See the official guides for using Cross Progression and using it on Switch.
- Create the save you want to move. Make a new save after enabling the feature. CD PROJEKT RED says the latest saves upload automatically; check for the cloud icon beside the save name to confirm it has uploaded.
- Sign in on the destination with the same CD PROJEKT RED account. Open the game’s account or My Rewards screen and connect the account used on the source. The uploaded save should then appear in Load Game.
- Load the save and check required content. If it is missing or will not load, confirm the destination has the edition and any expansion or DLC content required by that save.
Choose the right transfer route for your platforms
PS4 to the PS5 next-generation game
Use Cross Progression, not a standard PS4 console-save transfer: update the PS4 game to patch 4.04, link the CD PROJEKT RED account, create and verify the uploaded save, then use the same account in the PS5 next-generation game. PS4 game on PS5 through backwards compatibility
If you are continuing the PS4 version on a PS5, CD PROJEKT RED lists PlayStation Plus cloud saves, console-to-console LAN or Wi-Fi transfer, and a compatible storage device as options. This is a separate route from moving progress into the PS5 next-generation game, and requires the same PlayStation account. Follow the PS4-to-PS5 backwards-compatibility instructions.

Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S
CD PROJEKT RED says Smart Delivery can continue the game from a cloud save when the console is online. It also describes Xbox network transfer when both consoles are connected to the same network. See the Xbox Series X|S transfer guide.
Nintendo Switch to another platform
On Switch, begin at My Rewards, then enable or open Cross Progression, create a save and verify its cloud icon. Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account on the destination. Players who previously used the older GOG and Steam cloud-save integration on Switch need Cross Progression, introduced in update 4.04, to carry saves over. Can you transfer a save between editions?
On consoles, local saves for the base game and the GOTY or Complete Edition are treated as separate products and are not compatible with each other. CD PROJEKT RED directs players to Cross Progression to continue between those versions. That does not remove the save’s content requirements: a base-game save without expansions can load in the Complete Edition, but a Complete Edition save will not load in a base-game installation without all expansions and DLC used by the save. Check the save compatibility guidance and the required-content guidance.

CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered FAQ says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included in the Complete Edition. It also says save files remain compatible and Cross Progression continues to work following the edition-content change. The FAQ names PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 for the Remastered upgrade. Consult the Remastered update FAQ for its stated details; platform availability and steps may change, and it does not provide one universal Remastered migration procedure for every platform.

Missing save after updating to Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered missing-save support article advises players who previously used Cross Progression to sign in with the same associated CD PROJEKT RED account. If the earlier cross-progression account predates CD PROJEKT RED Accounts, use the account associated with the same email address used for the GOG account at that time.
