You can switch The Witcher 3 to an earlier build through Steam’s CLASSIC beta or GOG GALAXY’s Classic channel. CD PROJEKT RED says the Epic Games Store offers only the latest available version, so it has no supported rollback option. The launchers expose only builds currently offered there—not necessarily every historical patch.
Roll back The Witcher 3 on Steam
- Open your Steam Library.
- Right-click The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and select Properties.
- Open BETAS and choose CLASSIC. Steam will update the game to that branch.
To return to the newest build, open the same BETAS menu and select None. CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions document the Classic branch, not a way to select any individual historical Steam patch. CD PROJEKT RED’s rollback instructions do not describe depot downloads or command-line procedures.

Roll back The Witcher 3 in GOG GALAXY
- In GOG GALAXY, open Installed and select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- Choose Manage Installation → Configure….
- Set Beta Channels to Classic.
- Disable automatic updates, choose the preferred version available in the selector, and click OK.
To return to the newest build, use the same configuration menu and set Beta Channels to Disabled. GOG’s rollback documentation explains that rollback is a GOG GALAXY feature: updates must be set to manual, and the earlier update must still be published. The selector’s contents therefore depend on what remains available for the game.
Can you roll back through the Epic Games Store?
Not through a supported Epic Games Store option documented by CD PROJEKT RED. The developer says Epic provides only the latest available version of The Witcher 3. The rollback instructions cover Steam and GOG GALAXY instead.

What to check before choosing an older build
Confirm the exact version is offered
Do not assume that Classic means every past patch, or that a particular patch will appear in GOG’s preferred-version selector. Check the options shown by your launcher before relying on an older build. GOG also notes that an earlier update must remain published for rollback to work.
Check mod compatibility against the game version
A rollback can help when a mod requires a particular build, but compatibility is version-specific. CD PROJEKT RED’s mod compatibility list records different outcomes for mods against the update it covers: for example, it marks Always Full Exp (1.31) “NO” with a script error, while No Dirty Lens Effect is marked “YES.” That list is an update-specific snapshot, not a guarantee for other builds. Check the mod author’s version notes too.
Know the support trade-off
CD PROJEKT RED says, “Only the latest version of the game is fully supported, as it contains all the latest improvements, fixes and changes.” The developer recommends updating first when troubleshooting a problem on an older build. This is its support policy; it does not mean an older build cannot run.
