Before buying The Witcher 3 again, check which edition and platform account you already own. The Complete Edition includes the base game plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. For eligible owners, the Remastered version is a free upgrade on the same platform ecosystem—not a license that transfers between PC stores or consoles.
What The Witcher 3 Complete Edition includes
The Complete Edition combines The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with both story expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. CD PROJEKT RED’s official game page and FAQ say the expansions are integrated into the base game. If you already own the base game, update it to the latest version to install the expansion content. Existing expansion owners keep them in their library even though the standalone expansions have been delisted on covered storefronts and the base game has been replaced there by the Complete Edition.

On PS4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch, the official FAQ says the versions remain as before, with the two expansions made available for free. That does not mean those older versions receive all Remastered or current-generation features.

Is Remastered a separate purchase?
For owners of the game on eligible platforms, CD PROJEKT RED announced on August 25, 2026 that Remastered would be a free upgrade. The eligible ownership platforms named in the announcement are GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Treat this as a same-platform entitlement: a copy on one PC storefront does not establish ownership on another, and a console license does not transfer to PC.

The Remastered release date was September 29, 2026, which has passed. The feature announcement lists PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 as release platforms. Battle.net is named as a release platform, but it was not among the storefronts listed for the free upgrade in the August announcement; check the entitlement shown in your own account rather than assuming a Battle.net purchase qualifies.

Switch 2 upgrades and existing saves
The official Remastered FAQ explains that Nintendo Switch owners can claim the Switch 2 version, subject to the stated Russia and Belarus exception. It also says existing Witcher 3 saves are compatible with Remastered, but the overhauled skill system resets skills. Plan to rebuild your character’s skill choices after loading a compatible save.

Which platform version should you choose?
PC
PC Remastered is listed for Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net. Choose the storefront where your existing game is registered if you are seeking an upgrade; do not treat ownership on one storefront as proof of entitlement on another. The supported feature set can vary by hardware and updates, so verify current requirements and settings in the platform listing and patch notes.

Both current-generation console families are listed for Remastered. The 2026 feature announcement describes PS5 Pro support for PSSR and VRR. Earlier version 4.0 notes from CD PROJEKT RED describe Xbox Series S Quality Mode targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS, and state that Series S has no ray-tracing mode. These are source-dated product details, not a guarantee that every later patch or display configuration will produce identical results. Nintendo Switch 2
The 2026 feature announcement lists Switch 2 as a Remastered platform and describes motion, mouse-sensor, and touch-screen controls. Those are platform-specific control options; they are not features to assume on the original Switch.
PS4, Xbox One, and original Switch
These editions remain the legacy versions rather than the Remastered release. The official FAQ says the two expansions are made available free on these versions, but does not promise the current-generation Remastered feature set.
Check updates before troubleshooting performance
Feature and performance details can change with patches. For example, CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1, 2026 patch 5.00b notice says it fixed a DLSS issue in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version and adjusted lighting for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Xbox Play Anywhere. If you are comparing performance or diagnosing a visual issue, check the latest platform-specific patch notes rather than relying on an older feature list.
