All six ammo types and their roles
The following roles are broad guidance reported by Nerd’s Chalk, not a ranking of damage or efficiency. The right choice depends on your weapon, loadout, and the encounter.

The ammunition descriptions reported by Nerd’s Chalk identify .45 ACP for Handgun Ammo, .44-40 WCF for Revolver Ammo, .30-06 for Rifle Ammo, 12-gauge shells for Shotgun Ammo, and .45 ACP for Submachine Gun Ammo. These are in-game descriptions, not real-world purchasing advice.

What Alchemical Abundance reportedly changes
AllThingsHow, updated August 21, 2026, reports that Alchemical Abundance adds a flat amount per craft rather than a percentage. Its figures are secondary-source reporting and may vary by game build, so check the current in-game recipe display before relying on them.

The guide identifies Alchemical Abundance as an Intermediate-tier talent that competes for a limited talent slot. Its reported extra rounds may be useful if your loadout consistently depends on a listed ammunition type, but the grenade yield does not increase.
How to decide what to craft
Ammo is scarce, and crafting competes with healing and other resource needs. Xbox Wire’s August 18, 2026 launch feature describes scarcity as part of the survival-horror design and points to dodging, punching, stomping, weapon upgrades, and talents as parts of Calvin’s combat toolkit. Do not spend materials on one ammunition type by default.
- Use sidearm ammunition for routine threats when it fits your loadout.
- Keep rifle rounds for encounters that call for more demanding ranged fire.
- Favor shotgun shells when enemies create close-range pressure.
- Fire the SMG in short bursts rather than spending its ammunition indiscriminately.
- Reserve grenades for situations where heavy support is worthwhile.
- Keep materials flexible until your loadout or current encounter reveals a clear ammunition gap.
These are conservation suggestions, not claims that one weapon deals more damage or is more resource-efficient. Exact material costs for all recipes are not established in the cited guides.
