The Linux Foundation announced its first monthly #AskLF Twitter chat with Arpit Joshipura, then the Foundation’s General Manager of Networking & Orchestration, scheduled for March 31, 2017. The 45-minute session was intended for questions about open source networking, SDN/NFV and Joshipura’s professional background—not a personal-topic AMA.
When and how the #AskLF session was scheduled
The Linux Foundation’s March 21, 2017 announcement set the live Q&A for Friday, March 31, 2017, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. PDT. It marked the launch of a monthly Twitter chat series called #AskLF, with Joshipura as its first host. The announcement instructed participants to follow @linuxfoundation, where hosts would take over the Foundation’s account during the session, and to tweet questions with #AskLF during the scheduled window. It also encouraged people to prepare questions in advance. Read the announcement.

What participants were invited to ask
The event was aimed at the open source networking community and Joshipura’s career. The announcement suggested questions such as:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- “What is the goal of SDN?”
- “What can a network admin do in an SDN environment?”
- “How can my company investigate the benefits of SDN/NFV?”
- “How does The Linux Foundation help the open source community implement open networking?”
The format was meant to give the community direct access to Linux Foundation leaders, while keeping discussion centered on professional experience and open networking rather than the personal topics often associated with a Reddit-style AMA.
Why Arpit Joshipura was the first host
Joshipura’s appointment as the Linux Foundation’s General Manager of Networking & Orchestration had been announced on December 8, 2016. The Foundation said he would help harmonize the open source networking ecosystem across projects and the technology stack. In that appointment release, Executive Director Jim Zemlin described open source as “the linchpin for massive transformation in the networking industry, similar to the server market of two decades ago.” Read the appointment announcement.
The Foundation’s staff profile describes Joshipura’s work across networking, orchestration, edge and IoT. It names projects including ONAP, OPNFV, OpenDaylight, FD.io, Open vSwitch, DPDK, OpenSwitch and Akraino. See the Linux Foundation staff profile.

How the Q&A connected to Open Networking Summit
The Twitter chat was promoted as a lead-in to the upcoming Open Networking Summit in Santa Clara. The announcement said Joshipura would take part in keynote panels alongside Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin, ON.Lab/ONF Executive Director Guru Parulkar and others, and encouraged readers to attend the summit after joining the online conversation.
