Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A practical way to work toward that goal is to make the product easy to understand, earn attention in relevant communities, use launch day to invite conversation, and build a search-friendly website that can keep bringing people to it. Measure whether attention turns into real product use—not just views or votes.
Start with a clear destination
Before announcing a product, make sure visitors can quickly understand who it is for, what it helps them do, and what to do next. Product Hunt recommends a focused landing page that emphasizes the product’s value and a clear call to action, such as trying or downloading it. Keep secondary material from obscuring that next step. This is practical platform guidance, not a guarantee of a particular conversion rate.

Make the call to action match the product’s current state: invite people to use a working product, join a waitlist if access is not ready, or give feedback if you are seeking early validation. Be explicit about what happens after someone clicks.

Product Hunt recommends learning how its community works and contributing before asking people to pay attention to a launch. That can mean responding thoughtfully to discussions, offering useful feedback, and sharing relevant progress, questions, or roadblocks. The aim is to participate where prospective users already gather, not to treat a community as a list of people to message when you need traffic.
#1 Best Overall
This preparation also helps you learn how people describe the problem your product addresses. Use that understanding to make your landing-page explanation clearer and to choose communities where your announcement will be relevant.
Make launch day a conversation
Prepare the announcement and any newsletter in advance so you can spend launch day sharing it in appropriate places and responding to people. Product Hunt advises makers to share through relevant channels and communities where they have been active, and to make time for comments and questions.
Rank #2
Keep outreach respectful. Product Hunt explicitly says not to ask for upvotes, offer rewards for votes, or spam people with mass messages. Ask for honest feedback, comments, or help spreading the word instead. Its guidance puts it plainly: “Don’t ask for upvotes. Ask for feedback, comments, opinions, help spreading the word, not for upvotes.”
A launch platform is a concentrated opportunity for attention, not a substitute for ongoing discovery. Comments and votes can indicate interest, but they are not the same as someone trying the product or returning to it.
Give search a durable role
Google Search Essentials recommends creating people-first content, using the words readers use in prominent places on a page, making links crawlable, and telling relevant communities about a site. For an indie developer, that means publishing useful pages that explain the product and its problem in plain language, linking related pages with ordinary crawlable links, and sharing them with people who may genuinely find them useful.
Google’s developer guide also recommends checking how Google sees a page with URL Inspection in Search Console and building a site that is secure, fast, accessible, and usable across devices. These practices can help search systems understand and discover pages; they do not guarantee a ranking or even that a page will appear.
Google says that meeting its technical requirements and following its best practices does not guarantee that a page will be crawled, indexed, or served in results. Organic appearance does not cost money: “It doesn’t cost any money to appear in Google Search, no matter what anyone tries to tell you.”

Choose channels by fit, not by hype
Launch communities and search serve different purposes. A launch announcement concentrates distribution into an event, while search depends on crawlable pages and useful content that may need ongoing work. The sources do not quantify how long either route takes to produce results.
Best Value
When deciding where to spend time, consider whether your intended users already participate there, whether the channel can generate useful feedback, and whether visitors have a clear next step. You control your website’s content and call to action, but you do not control whether Google crawls, indexes, or serves a page. There are no established comparative conversion figures for these channels, so choose based on audience fit and what you can learn.

Use a simple measurement chain that reflects the product’s actual path to value:
- Visits: Are people reaching the landing page, and which channels brought them?
- Signups or downloads: Do visitors take the next step you invited them to take?
- Activation: Do new users reach the product’s first meaningful outcome?
- Return use: Do they come back, and what feedback explains why or why not?
Search Console can help site owners understand search performance, while product analytics or a basic signup record can help connect visits to later product use. This measurement sequence is a practical workflow, not a prescribed benchmark. The important distinction is between attention and evidence that people are finding value.
A workable sequence
- Clarify the offer: Write a concise explanation of the audience, problem, and product value; put it on a focused page with one clear next action.
- Participate first: Learn the norms of relevant communities and contribute usefully before announcing your product.
- Prepare distribution: Draft the launch announcement and newsletter, and identify appropriate channels where you have a legitimate reason to participate.
- Show up on launch day: Share the announcement, answer comments, and request feedback rather than votes or incentives.
- Improve discoverability: Publish useful, reader-oriented site content, use clear language and crawlable links, and inspect pages in Search Console.
- Review the funnel: Follow visits through signup or download, activation, and returning use. Improve the step where people stop progressing.
None of these steps establishes a typical signup count, conversion rate, probability of success, or time to 100 users. Treat 100 as a goal to work toward, using each channel to learn what brings the right people to the product and what makes them stay.
