What is The Funskin Project?
Antoine describes The Funskin Project as a horror game set in a strange, timeless universe. Players explore, solve puzzles, fight to survive and try to escape. Its intended appeal sits between old-school survival horror and adventure games focused on exploration, according to the developer.

How long has the game been in development?
Antoine says development began around late 2023, while he was working another job and making the game in his spare time. The original concept had a modern setting and a much broader structure, with several environments and multiple ways to approach the experience.

After making an earlier demo of roughly three hours and pitching it to publishers without a positive response, he reconsidered the project at the beginning of 2025. The revised direction centers on one large, coherent environment. He says he kept some existing work—including save and inventory systems, some enemies and puzzles, and underlying code—but rebuilt most of the environments for the new setting.
The earlier demo was part of the version pitched to publishers; the interview does not establish that it is available to the public. Antoine estimates the current game at around twelve hours, an interview estimate rather than a measured playtime.
How do the day and night systems work?
Time passes during play, and the day-night cycle affects enemies, saving and access to some areas. That makes the cycle more than an atmospheric effect: players must weigh when to save and whether to keep exploring as conditions become more dangerous.

Saving during the day
During the day, saving requires specific items. Antoine compares them to the ink ribbons used in Resident Evil, signaling a limited-resource approach rather than unrestricted saving.
Surviving the night
At night, players can keep exploring, but enemies become more dangerous. They can also sleep to save without using a save item; the trade-off is that all enemies respawn. Antoine says there are other nighttime events for players to discover, without detailing them in the interview.
What role do puzzles and exploration play?
Puzzles are a substantial part of the game, and Antoine says he has tried to make them varied. He values progression that comes from struggling with a challenge, working it out and then discovering what lies ahead. The emphasis is therefore not just on surviving encounters, but on understanding the space and solving problems within it.

Antoine says he let friends play about two hours of the game, and that their feedback was generally positive, particularly about the puzzles. He says the response encouraged him to place even more emphasis on puzzle-solving. This is the developer’s account of informal feedback, not an independent review.
What inspired The Funskin Project?
Antoine describes several influences across game design, atmosphere, visual art and writing. These are his stated inspirations, not a claim that the game directly imitates any one work.
- Exploration and level design: The original Resident Evil influenced the large environment and gradual unlocking of areas. Ico informed his interest in level design and the feeling of moving through one coherent space.
- Small-team possibility: Antoine cites Signalis as an example that a game in this broad vein can be made with a smaller production setup.
- Atmosphere and imagery: He names Francis Ford Coppola’s 1991 film Dracula, the art of Hans Bellmer and Francis Bacon, and the Silent Hill series.
- Writing: His literary influences include Carlos Ruiz Zafón and André Pieyre de Mandiargues.
What has been most challenging about making it?
Antoine says he trained as a programmer and had less experience with the artistic side of development. He learned much of the 3D modeling and other art work while building the game. Animation remains difficult for him, while he has grown to enjoy creating 3D environments.

He also describes game design and balance as ongoing challenges, especially pacing a long game and tuning puzzle difficulty. Those concerns connect directly to the project’s core: the environment must support extended exploration, while puzzles need to challenge players without stalling their sense of progress.
Is The Funskin Project available, and where can you play it?
The October 1, 2026 interview does not confirm a release date, platforms, a public demo, a store page, or a physical edition. It therefore does not establish where or when players will be able to play the game. The earlier publisher-pitch demo should not be treated as a publicly available download.
