The free PS5 offering behind the graphics buzz is Elta: Defy All Gods – Demo, a 45-to-60-minute prologue sample—not the full game. Its painterly art direction is striking, but “coolest graphics” is a personal impression, not a measured technical ranking. The demo is available on the US PlayStation Store, and its progress will not carry over to the full game.
What is the free PS5 offering?
Elta: Defy All Gods – Demo is a free PlayStation 5 demo from Afterburner Studios. The official US PlayStation Store listing labels it “Free Demo”; it is separate from the full game. The graphics praise comes from writer Kate Harrold’s subjective assessment in GamingBible, not an objective comparison of PS5 games.

What does the demo include?
The Store estimates 45 to 60 minutes of play, covering the prologue, tutorial, and first steps into the game. The sample follows the effort to retrieve the lost dragon-god Elta: players fight corrupted enemies, explore Lerna, and face Kan Loa’s Chosen. Lerna is described as a glacial setting with hidden secrets, ancient ruins, and industrial remnants. The listing also notes that adjustments were made to the demo for its experience.

Why are players noticing its graphics?
The game’s visual identity is described as painterly, not photorealistic. Afterburner Studios’ PlayStation Blog introduction highlights painterly vistas across three science-fantasy worlds. That supports describing a distinctive art direction; it does not establish resolution, frame rate, graphics modes, image quality, or performance.
For a fair comparison with other PS5 games, separate art direction from technical measures such as sharpness, lighting, frame-rate stability, and consistency between environments. The available official descriptions discuss the look, but do not provide comparative testing on those measures.

How does it play?
Afterburner calls Elta an action-platformer with a “brawlervania” structure: melee fights sit alongside exploration through interconnected spaces. The developer describes three martial-arts stances, skill development, magic attacks powered by energy, and movement abilities including double jump, dash, wall run, and grapple. Elta, the dragon-god companion, grants abilities for combat and reaching otherwise inaccessible areas.
The developer also says DualSense haptics give punches and platform landings tactile weight. As game director Ian Cofino put it, “By using the haptics of the DualSense controller, landing punches and hitting platforms has a real tactile weight, resulting in a more immersive experience for PlayStation players.” The source describes this as an added experience for PlayStation players; it does not say that a special controller is required.

Should you try it?
The free demo is a low-commitment way to see whether the painterly presentation, melee combat, and platforming appeal to you. Its short length and non-transferable save make it less useful if you are looking for a substantial free game or a way to begin a full-game playthrough. Download the demo if you want to sample the art and opening mechanics; consider the full game separately rather than assuming the demo is the game itself.
