Xbox Wire describes Osiris Reborn as a story-driven sci-fi action RPG in which a Pinkwater Security mercenary’s shore leave on Eros turns into a crisis. The premise places the player inside the established Expanse universe, but the available announcement does not establish how far the story travels beyond that setup or how its full campaign is structured.

In Mass Effect, the player takes the role of Commander Shepard and leads an elite recon squad across a galaxy in turmoil. Legendary Edition packages three games, so its central appeal is not just a space-opera premise but a continuing story experienced across a trilogy.

Choice continuity is established in Mass Effect, still an open question for Osiris Reborn
EA explicitly says that choices in Mass Effect Legendary Edition travel from one game to the next and affect missions, relationships, battles, and the fate of the galaxy. The choices therefore connect the trilogy, rather than existing only as isolated decisions within a single release.
For Osiris Reborn, Xbox Wire says the story is shaped by player choices. That establishes the announced direction, not the breadth or permanence of those choices. The available official descriptions do not confirm whether decisions carry across separate games, how many outcomes they affect, or how they change the campaign. Treat any direct equivalence with Mass Effect‘s trilogy-wide continuity as speculation until Owlcat publishes more detail.
Companions, combat, and exploration: what is known and what is not
Companions and squad play
EA describes Shepard leading an elite recon squad and says choices can affect relationships. Xbox Wire discusses companions in Osiris Reborn, but the available information does not establish its complete crew, relationship systems, or how companions will function in the finished game. The comparison supports a broad shared interest in characters, not a claim that the two games have matching party systems.

Official descriptions classify Osiris Reborn as a third-person, story-driven action RPG. EA highlights a customizable character and arsenal and squad-led action for Mass Effect Legendary Edition. These high-level descriptions are not enough to judge which game has better combat or to compare detailed mechanics. Nor do they establish a final exploration structure for Osiris Reborn. Its combat feel, performance, writing, and finished design can only be assessed after release and hands-on coverage.

Choose Mass Effect Legendary Edition for a complete story today
If you want a released space RPG with a three-game story and documented choice carryover, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the available option. EA says the collection includes the single-player base content for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus over 40 DLC. Check the EA page for the edition and platform relevant to you.
Wait for Osiris Reborn if The Expanse setting is the draw
Owlcat’s announced window is Spring 2027, with PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions and day-one Xbox Game Pass availability. Those are announced plans, not a guarantee of a final date or unchanged availability; consult Owlcat’s release announcement for its current details. The Steam listing is another official place to check the PC version’s current information.
If you are a Mass Effect fan, the premise and announced story-driven RPG direction make Osiris Reborn worth watching, but they do not yet show whether its writing, companions, combat, or choices will match what you value in that trilogy. For now, compare the announced premise with the proven structure of Mass Effect—not the finished quality of two released games.
