Xbox has not revealed the subtitle of The Elder Scrolls VI. In an August 11, 2026 post, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wrote the title followed by eight asterisks, and Bethesda Game Studios echoed the redaction in its reply. Those asterisks fuel speculation about the title’s length, but the reporting available as of October 2026 does not state that the subtitle has eight letters, and it does not show what the subtitle says. What Sharma did confirm is that she saw a “live playthrough” of the game. That means an internal build was shown to her, not that the public has seen gameplay.
What Xbox and Bethesda actually posted
Three statements are the basis for the current coverage. The table below separates what each one establishes from what it leaves open.

Two statements are direct quotations. Sharma’s post, as reproduced in GameSpot’s coverage, reads: “Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning. The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.” Bethesda’s reply, as reproduced in Gadgets 360’s coverage, reads: “It was great being able to show you ********. Thank you for the kind words and a wonderful visit.”
Bethesda’s July 17, 2026 update is the only official studio statement about the game’s development status in the reporting reviewed. It says: “The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise.” It adds: “The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”

Why the eight asterisks are suggestive but not proof
The asterisks are a formatting choice, and they are the only basis for the eight-letter idea. Their count may be a hint, but a redaction can hide any length of text. Several points keep the claim in proportion:
- Neither Sharma’s post nor Bethesda’s reply states a letter count. Readers should not treat “eight-letter subtitle” as a confirmed fact.
- Bethesda matched the redaction in its own reply. That suggests a deliberate tease, but it does not reveal the words behind the asterisks.
- A redaction in a social post shows only that someone chose to withhold the title. It is not a trademark filing, a store listing, or an official press release.
Where development stands
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI on June 10, 2018. GameSpot’s coverage dated June 10, 2026 noted that no new image or trailer had been released as of that article, which marked eight years since the announcement. The July 17, 2026 update is the most recent official development statement in the reporting reviewed.

The update confirms three things. The game is the studio’s main project. The team is actively playing a build. The engine is Creation Engine 3. It does not give a release window, and it does not describe the game’s setting or subtitle.

Is The Elder Scrolls VI playable yet?
No public gameplay reveal appears in the reporting reviewed as of October 2026. Sharma’s “live playthrough” was a private showing to her, and Bethesda’s reply describes the same visit. A private showing shows that a playable build exists internally. It does not mean players can access the game, and it does not indicate when they might.

Fans have proposed several possible subtitles. “Sentinel” is one of the most widely discussed. Softonic’s October 8, 2026 roundup collected current theories. None of them is confirmed by Bethesda, Xbox, or any other official source. Readers should treat every proposed name as fan speculation, not as a leaked or known title.

What remains unknown
- The official subtitle, and whether it has eight letters.
- The game’s setting and story details beyond Sharma’s general praise.
- A release date or release window.
- Whether, when, or how the game will be shown to the public.
- What the eight asterisks are meant to signal.
How to check the next subtitle claim
- Confirm the source. Look for a post from Bethesda Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, Xbox, or Asha Sharma’s verified account, not a repost or a screenshot without context.
- Check whether the claim quotes an official statement or relies on the asterisk count. Only an explicit statement from Bethesda or Xbox settles the title.
- Look at the date. Reports from 2018 and 2026 should not be mixed when describing the game’s current status.
- Be wary of wording that moves from “could be” to “is.” A fan theory presented as a leak is still a fan theory.
