The Boba Teashop: Refill is an announced first-person psychological horror game from Serafini Productions and Mike Ten. Refill is set in the world of the original The Boba Teashop, but it is presented as a standalone story rather than a direct continuation requiring prior knowledge. Players take the role of Maya, a young woman under financial pressure who accepts a job at a newly opened branch of Risa’s boba business.

How the job becomes the horror system
The interview’s central design idea is that players first learn a repeatable work routine and then have that routine disrupted. Familiar tasks create expectations; changes to the shop, customer interactions or the surrounding atmosphere can therefore feel threatening because they interfere with something the player has learned to control.
The developers describe balancing the pace of shop work with horror as one of the project’s main challenges. A shift must remain understandable enough to function as a simulation, but not so predictable that the horror loses its force. Their explanation is summed up in the collective answer:
“We think it was when we realized that the job itself could become part of the psychological pressure rather than simply being the setting for the horror.”

That approach points to psychological tension rather than a game that treats the café as a static backdrop. Customer expectations, reviews and management attention can make a normal mistake feel consequential before the game introduces anything overtly supernatural.
What is changing from the original presentation
The developers say Refill expands the presentation with full voice acting, facial animation, more elaborate cinematics and a stronger emphasis on character interactions. These are descriptions from the development team, not independent technical tests, so they should be read as stated ambitions and production features rather than verified performance measurements.
The larger character focus also fits the workplace premise. Customers and colleagues are not simply anonymous prompts in a task loop; their reactions are intended to contribute to the pressure surrounding Maya’s shifts.

Cast and creator-inspired customers
The developers say the cast includes more than 20 people. That figure comes from their collective interview response and is not an independently audited cast count.
The interview and the PlayStation listing identify creator-inspired customers including Yotobi, Knite and Suzi Hunter, also known as The Sphere Hunter. Their inclusion gives the shop’s customer population recognizable guest appearances without changing the game’s core focus on Maya’s work and mounting unease.

There is no confirmed launch date in the interview. The official PlayStation Store listing currently labels The Boba Teashop – Refill as announced and says the release date is “To be determined.” It describes multiple workdays, drink preparation, customer pressure and an atmosphere that grows progressively more oppressive.
