Dangote Cement’s reported share-price gain of more than 93% was a year-to-date figure published by Nairametrics on 19 May 2026—not a verified return through 12 October. The company’s audited FY2025 results show why investors may have been encouraged: revenue, EBITDA and profit more than doubled or grew sharply, even as total cement volume slipped. But those operating results do not, by themselves, establish that the shares are attractively valued or that the rally will continue.
What does the reported 93% gain measure?
Nairametrics reported on 19 May 2026 that Dangote Cement shares had risen more than 93% year to date on the Nigerian Exchange. The report linked the move with the company’s proposed ₦45-per-share final dividend. That is an association in the report, not evidence that the dividend caused the share-price rise.

The report does not establish the exact starting and ending prices, whether the calculation includes dividends, or a precise end-of-day measurement. It also cannot substantiate the stock’s return from that point through 12 October 2026. Treat 93% as a dated, secondary-source claim, not as a current or independently verified total return. Dangote Cement identifies its NGX ticker as DANGCEM.
What do the company’s results show?
The audited FY2025 results, released on 28 February 2026, show substantial growth in financial results alongside a slight decline in group volumes. Unaudited Q1 2026 results then reported growth in revenue, earnings, volume and exports. The periods are different in length, so the quarter’s absolute figures should not be read as directly comparable with the full-year totals.

Profit grew much faster than volume in FY2025
The contrast between 43.4% EBITDA growth and a 0.9% decline in group volume matters. Higher earnings cannot be explained by selling more tonnes across the group in that year. Price and product mix, cost changes, currency translation and operational efficiency are all relevant parts of the explanation; the reported figures alone do not assign each factor a precise share of the increase.
The company said Nigeria cash cost declined, citing a favorable energy mix. That helps explain how margins could improve, but the release does not make fuel, currency or financing exposure disappear.

Q1 growth adds evidence, but only for one quarter
Q1 2026’s 13.8% group-volume growth, alongside increases in revenue and profit, is a positive follow-through after the FY2025 volume decline. It is a single unaudited quarter, however, and does not establish that the same pace will persist for the year or that earnings growth will translate into equivalent share returns.

How much could exports and new capacity contribute?
Exports offer a route to use production beyond domestic demand. In FY2025, Dangote Cement reported 34 clinker shipments from Nigeria to Ghana and Cameroon, while Nigeria cement and clinker exports rose to 1.4 million tonnes. Q1 2026 exports increased to 549.6 thousand tonnes. These are reported operating gains, but export volumes alone do not show the margin earned after transport, handling and other costs.

The company commissioned a 3Mta grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire during Q3 2025. Its investor-relations materials describe the business as exposure to Sub-Saharan Africa’s growth potential and list total capacity of 55.0Mta. That is the issuer’s growth framing. Capacity is not actual production: it does not show plant utilization, profitable sales, or the return earned on the capital invested. The results cited here do not quantify the new plant’s current utilization or return on invested capital.
What does the ₦45 dividend add to the case?
Dangote Cement proposed a cash dividend of ₦45 per share for FY2025, compared with ₦30 for FY2024. The company’s share-information page lists 26 February 2026 as the declaration date, 17 June as the record date and 2 July as the payment date. The proposed dividend was cited alongside the share move in the 19 May report; that timing does not prove causation.

A dividend amount is not a yield. Yield depends on the share price at a specified date, and no aligned dated price series is established here to calculate one. A larger distribution may matter to shareholders, but it does not settle whether the market price offers value.
Which risks could weaken the operating case?
Volume and demand
FY2025 group volume fell 0.9% despite strong financial growth. Q1 2026 reversed that direction, but a single quarter is not enough to establish a durable trend. If volume growth falters, the company may have less room to sustain revenue and earnings gains.

Currency and input costs
Dangote Cement’s FY2024 annual report described naira depreciation, inflation-linked production-cost increases and foreign-currency exposures. It reported a ₦249.3 billion foreign-exchange loss for 2024 and a 38.6% average naira loss in the official FX window that year. Those are historical FY2024 figures, not reported FY2025 or FY2026 losses. The company’s FY2025 comment about lower Nigerian cash costs due to energy mix is encouraging, but does not quantify the business’s future exposure to exchange rates, fuel or financing costs.
Expansion execution
Export growth and the Côte d’Ivoire facility create opportunities while bringing execution questions: whether new capacity ramps up, how much it is used, whether logistics are economical, and whether the investment earns adequate returns. The available company figures do not answer those questions quantitatively.
Does the operating performance justify the share-price run?
The results give a credible business-performance basis for investor optimism: FY2025 revenue and earnings rose sharply, Q1 2026 reported further growth, exports expanded, and the company proposed a larger dividend. They also leave important qualifications. FY2025 volume declined, Q1 figures cover only one unaudited quarter, and the evidence does not quantify returns on expansion.

Most importantly, operating growth is not a valuation analysis. The evidence here does not include a dated share price aligned to the reported return, market capitalization, valuation multiple or comparable peer data. Without those, it cannot establish whether the shares are cheap, whether the 93% move is justified by the price paid for future earnings, or whether further gains are likely. The best-supported conclusion is that the company reported strong earnings growth—not that the stock is necessarily a bargain.
