There is no single best laptop for everyone. Expert Reviews’ 2026 UK guide names the Honor MagicBook Pro 14 (2025) as its best overall pick, but the right choice depends on whether you prioritise price, macOS, ChromeOS, travel weight or gaming. The battery figures below are that publisher’s test results, not promises of everyday runtime.

Which laptop fits your needs?
For a strong all-rounder: Honor MagicBook Pro 14
Expert Reviews’ overall pick combines performance, an OLED screen and a 16 hr 10 min battery result in its test. The guide notes that it is relatively heavy and lacks 6GHz Wi-Fi. Its product descriptions are inconsistent about screen size and sometimes use “MagicBook 14” rather than “MagicBook Pro 14,” so do not assume every listing has the same panel or configuration. Match the product name and specifications to the seller’s listing.
For macOS: MacBook Air 13-inch (M5)
The guide’s best MacBook choice is the 2026 13-inch Air with M5. Its detailed section identifies the base configuration as 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, and Expert Reviews reports 14 hr 59 min in its battery test. The guide says it costs more than the preceding M4 model and is less repairable than the MacBook Neo. Consider it when you want a lightweight macOS laptop and value the listed memory and storage, rather than choosing solely by the chip name.

- STORAGE AND MEMORY - 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD offers fast speed and efficient storage; and 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM memory boosts performance with higher bandwidth
For a lower-cost Mac: MacBook Neo
Expert Reviews’ budget pick has a 13-inch IPS display, an A18 Pro chip, 8GB RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB SSD in the configurations described. The guide praises its value, build and repairability, but flags the lack of a keyboard backlight, shrill speakers and disappointing battery life. Its 11 hr 51 min result is the shortest among the seven reported results here. Treat 8GB as a trade-off if you regularly keep many apps or browser tabs open.
For ChromeOS: Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 Gen 10
This is the shortlist’s ChromeOS recommendation. Expert Reviews highlights its OLED display, performance and portability, with a 14 hr 53 min battery-test result. Its stated compromises are Full HD resolution and limited ports. It suits readers whose work and apps fit ChromeOS; check required software and peripherals before switching from Windows or macOS.
Rank #2
- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
For travel: Asus Zenbook A14 (2025)
The guide singles out the A14 for low weight, an OLED screen and a 20 hr 20 min result in its battery rundown test. Its weaknesses are a poor webcam and sluggish graphics, making it a less persuasive fit for graphics-heavy work or frequent video calls. The source’s processor details are inconsistent, so verify the exact CPU and storage on the configuration being sold rather than assuming all A14 listings match.
For gaming: Asus TUF Gaming A14 (2025)
The recommended configuration is identified as having an Nvidia RTX 5060. Expert Reviews praises its gaming performance and second SSD slot; its test battery result is 13 hr 31 min. The guide lists Wi-Fi 6E and no RGB keyboard backlight among the limitations. For gaming, prioritise the GPU and cooling over thinness or a long battery-test figure: demanding games are best played plugged in, and sustained performance depends on how well the laptop manages heat.
Rank #3

For an Air alternative: Asus Zenbook S 14 (UX5406)
The Zenbook S 14 offers a 14-inch 120Hz OLED panel and portability, with an 18 hr 28 min result in Expert Reviews’ test. The guide says the Core Ultra 9 version costs too much for its performance and rates the Core Ultra 7 configuration as better value. Compare the processor variant and price on the actual listing; the model name alone does not identify which version you are buying.
How to choose beyond the category winner
Match processor and graphics to the work
Browsing, office documents and video calls generally need less processing power than video editing, rendering or demanding games. For gaming, the dedicated GPU matters more than a headline CPU label; for intensive creative workloads, consider both processor capability and cooling. A thin chassis can be convenient, but sustained workloads may trigger thermal throttling and reduce performance.
Rank #4

Use RAM as a practical filter
Expert Reviews describes 8GB as a minimum and recommends 16GB for more multitasking headroom. That makes the Neo’s 8GB configuration a consideration for lighter use, while the Air M5’s listed 16GB base configuration offers more room for simultaneous apps. Check the exact configuration, since a product family can be sold with different memory amounts.
Compare the screen on more than resolution
OLED often delivers more striking contrast and colour than a typical IPS panel, but panel type alone does not settle display quality. Also compare resolution, refresh rate, brightness, colour coverage and colour accuracy. A good IPS screen may be preferable to a weak OLED implementation, and a 120Hz panel such as the Zenbook S 14’s is most relevant if you value smoother motion.

Read battery tests as comparisons, not guarantees
Expert Reviews says its battery comparison uses a video-playback rundown at predetermined brightness. Actual runtime changes with brightness, workload, wireless use, battery age and configuration. The test results help compare these recommendations under that method; they do not predict how long every buyer will get in daily use.
Check ports, webcam, repair and upgrade details
Before ordering, confirm that the laptop has the ports and webcam quality your routine requires, particularly if you travel or attend video meetings. The Lenovo’s limited ports, the A14’s webcam and the TUF A14’s second SSD slot are concrete examples of differences that may matter more than a small processor gap. Repairability and upgrade options also vary: the guide specifically describes the Neo as more repairable than the MacBook Air M5.

The guide says its rankings draw on in-house and third-party benchmarks, display measurements using DisplayCAL and an X-Rite colorimeter, temperature monitoring, and a video rundown battery test at predetermined brightness. Its recommendations and runtime figures are the publisher’s reported testing and editorial judgments, not independent measurements by this article.
