Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For a new Android phone under $200 in the U.S., the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the better fit if you value its AMOLED display, more versatile cameras, water resistance and longer stated software support. The Motorola Moto G (2026) is the battery-and-charging alternative, but Motorola’s announced U.S. unlocked sales dates were still in the future as of October 4, 2026. Check current unlocked stock and price before treating either phone as a buy-now deal.
Which Android phone under $200 should you choose?
- Choose the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G for a sharper AMOLED screen, optical image stabilization (OIS) on its main camera, an ultrawide camera, IP54 water-and-dust resistance, and up to six OS upgrades as reported in the cited comparison. Confirm the support terms for the exact U.S. model.
- Consider the Motorola Moto G (2026) if battery capacity and faster wired charging matter more. Its listed battery is 5,200mAh with 30W charging, compared with 5,000mAh and 25W for the A17.
- For either phone, keep expectations modest for demanding use. The cited comparison lists 4GB RAM on both. That is a reason to be cautious about heavy multitasking and gaming, not a guarantee of how every app will perform.
These are conditional recommendations, not verified live offers. MSRP, a reported sale price and a retailer listing do not establish that an unlocked U.S. phone is currently in stock at that price.

Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: the screen, camera and support pick
The A17 5G is the more feature-rich option on paper. Android Authority describes a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, Gorilla Glass Victus, a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 5MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Android Central lists a 25W charging rate and IP54 protection. These details and the reviewer’s caveats are in Android Authority’s Galaxy A17 5G review and Android Central’s A17 vs. Moto G comparison.
Where it stands out
- Display: Its FHD+ Super AMOLED panel is the higher-resolution, higher-contrast choice against the Moto G’s HD+ IPS LCD, according to Android Central’s comparison.
- Camera flexibility: OIS can help steady the main camera, while the ultrawide gives you a wider framing option. The Moto G has neither feature in that comparison.
- Stated update support: The comparison reports up to six OS upgrades for the A17, versus up to two for the Moto G. Treat this as a claim to verify for the exact regional SKU, rather than assuming every version has identical terms.
- Protection: Android Central lists IP54. This is a useful specification, but it is not a promise that the phone is waterproof.
Trade-offs
Android Authority says the Exynos 1330 processor and 4GB RAM suit everyday, lighter use better than demanding workloads. It also flags sunlight visibility and charging speed as drawbacks. This is not the safer choice if your priority is sustained heavy gaming or intensive multitasking.

Prices require care: Android Central reported an observed $170 sale price at the time of its article and lists a $199 launch price. Those are source-time figures, not a guaranteed current U.S. unlocked price. Android Authority’s displayed $199.99 MSRP belongs to its Galaxy A16 section, so it should not be attributed to the A17.
Motorola Moto G (2026): the battery and charging pick
Motorola announced the Moto G (2026) with Android 16 and a U.S. MSRP of $199.99. In its announcement, Motorola scheduled U.S. universally unlocked sales for December 11 on its own site, followed by Best Buy and Amazon on January 15. Those dates were later than October 4, 2026, the date of the reviewed information. The announcement does not by itself establish whether a phone is available now; check Motorola’s live listing and the retailer’s exact unlocked SKU before buying. What the comparison says
Android Central lists a 6.7-inch 1604 × 720 IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 6300, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, a 5,200mAh battery and 30W wired charging. The higher refresh rate may make supported motion look smoother, but it does not change the panel’s lower resolution or make it equivalent to the A17’s AMOLED screen.

Check these details on the live listing
- Confirm the exact model and configuration. Match the phone name, storage and RAM to the maker’s U.S. product details; similarly named models or regional versions may differ.
- Verify it is unlocked. Check the listing’s explicit lock status rather than inferring it from the model name or retailer.
- Check seller, return policy and total price. Confirm who sells the phone, whether it can be returned, and the checkout total. A listed MSRP or old sale price is not enough.
- Check support terms for that U.S. version. Compare the manufacturer’s current statement with the update claims above before treating them as a purchase guarantee.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
