The most useful way to shop is to check whether an organic claim covers the finished mattress or only a component, then compare construction and materials against your preferences. Four models worth examining are the Avocado Green Mattress, Naturepedic Concerto Organic Pillow Top, Saatva Zenhaven, and Saatva Latex Hybrid; the available evidence supports distinctions in their certifications and construction, not a reliable comfort ranking.
How to judge an organic mattress claim
Start by asking what is certified: the finished mattress, a material such as cotton, or a latex component. These claims are not interchangeable. A mattress may contain certified organic fibers or latex while also using materials that are not organic.

GOTS covers textile claims and finished-product labeling
Under Global Standards’ GOTS Version 8.0 (2026), the “Organic” label grade requires at least 95% certified organic fiber content. The standard also says: “For retail goods, any claim, advertisement, or reference to GOTS can only be made if the final product is certified in accordance with GOTS and bears the complete and correct labelling of GOTS.” Global Standards, GOTS Version 8.0 (2026) distinguishes this finished-product requirement from a claim about one certified fiber.
GOLS applies to natural rubber latex
GOLS addresses products made from organically grown natural rubber latex and the latex supply chain. Its final-product labeling requirements allow approved additional materials and accessories, so a GOLS claim should be read as evidence about the latex and its defined scope—not proof that every mattress component is organic. Control Union describes transaction certificates as a traceability mechanism. Control Union’s GOLS information explains the standard’s scope.

The Organic Trade Association likewise explains that using the GOTS name on a product requires certification across the value chain and for the final product. That is an industry association’s explanation; the GOTS standard itself is the primary source for its requirements. Organic Trade Association’s explainer
Four models to investigate, not ranked winners
The evidence supports these candidates as examples of different certification and construction claims. It does not establish a shared test method, comparable comfort results, or a complete comparison of price, trial, return, and warranty terms. Confirm the current certificate and model details before buying.

| Model | What the available evidence establishes | Construction and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Avocado Green Mattress | Avocado’s own model and comparison pages state that the Green Mattress has finished-product GOTS certification and contains GOLS-certified organic latex. This is manufacturer evidence; confirm the current registry entry and exact certificate scope. Avocado model and comparison pages | The cited evidence supports finished-product and latex claims, but does not provide comparable comfort, durability, price, or purchase-term data. |
| Naturepedic Concerto Organic Pillow Top | Naturepedic lists GOTS-certified cotton and wool and GOLS-certified latex. Naturepedic Concerto product information | The disclosed construction also includes polypropylene interlinings, polyester thread, and polypropylene-wrapped coil fabrics, as well as steel coils and microcoils. Do not interpret the certified material claims as meaning every component is organic. |
| Saatva Zenhaven | Saatva describes GOLS-certified organic latex and a GOTS-certified New Zealand wool flame barrier. The cited material page does not establish finished-product GOTS certification. Saatva material information | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup describes Zenhaven as a flippable latex model; that is an editorial characterization, not a shared comparative test result. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | Saatva describes GOLS-certified organic latex and a GOTS-certified New Zealand wool flame barrier. The cited material page does not establish finished-product GOTS certification. Saatva material information | The model is identified as a latex hybrid, but the evidence does not provide comparable comfort, firmness, durability, price, or purchase-term results. |
For a broader comparison, Avocado’s page says Birch Natural does not hold finished-product GOTS certification, though it uses GOTS-certified cotton. That is a useful example of why component certification and whole-product certification should not be conflated. Avocado comparison information

Choose construction before choosing a label
All-latex
An all-latex mattress is a reasonable direction to investigate if you specifically want a latex-based feel. The available model information identifies Zenhaven as a flippable latex mattress, but does not establish how it performs for particular sleeping positions or body types. Treat “latex” as a construction description, not a guarantee of comfort.
Rank #3

Latex hybrid
A latex hybrid combines latex with a coil support system. Saatva identifies its Latex Hybrid as a latex hybrid, while Naturepedic’s Concerto listing includes steel coils and microcoils alongside latex and textiles. Check the exact layer breakdown for the model and size you are considering; the name alone does not tell you which materials are certified.
Innerspring and mixed-material designs
Mattresses with coils can still use organic or certified fibers in selected layers, while incorporating other materials in covers, interlinings, thread, or coil wrapping. Naturepedic’s disclosed polypropylene and polyester components illustrate why a layer-by-layer materials list is more informative than a broad “organic” headline.

A practical checklist before you buy
- Identify the exact certification claim. Look for whether the finished mattress is certified or whether the claim applies only to cotton, wool, or latex.
- Match the certificate to the model. Check the current registry or certificate for the precise model and scope rather than relying only on a brand-wide statement or product-family name.
- Read the full materials disclosure. Note certified fibers and latex, but also review synthetic textiles, thread, adhesives, fire barriers, and coil components when disclosed.
- Compare feel and sleeper fit using credible model-specific evidence. Look for a named review or test method that explains firmness and pressure-relief assessment. The evidence here does not provide comparable outcomes for side sleepers or other sleeper groups.
- Verify current purchase terms and availability. Check live pricing by size, trial and return conditions, warranty, stock, and seller. These details are time-sensitive and are not established comparably for the four candidates above.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The available evidence can help separate finished-product GOTS claims from component-level GOTS or GOLS claims and identify construction differences among four candidates. It cannot establish that one is more comfortable, durable, healthier, or better value than the others. No common comparative test dataset supports such a verdict.
Marketplace availability is also unconfirmed: the evidence does not establish that any of these models is currently available on Amazon. Before using a marketplace listing, verify the seller, exact model, current listing, and certification scope. Avocado information and Naturepedic information provide manufacturer claims, not confirmation of a current marketplace listing.
