Tesla Paint Shop digital wraps are PNG images that change the look of the vehicle avatar on the car’s screen—not the car’s actual paint. To add one, download the template for your exact Tesla model and variant, edit and export it to Tesla’s file requirements, transfer it through the Tesla app or a USB drive, then select it in Paint Shop.
What a Tesla Paint Shop wrap changes
A Paint Shop wrap is a digital customization for the vehicle avatar. It does not apply vinyl, alter the vehicle’s exterior, or replace a physical paint job. Tesla’s software release notes describe the feature as a way to “Personalize your Tesla avatar with window tints, custom wraps, and license plates.” (Tesla software release notes, version 2025.44.25.1)

Tesla’s separate Tesla Vinyl Wraps service is a real-world product with materials and installation at participating service centers. The service page lists eligibility for Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced in 2023 or later, and Cybertruck; those rules concern physical wraps, not Paint Shop PNG compatibility.

Prepare a custom wrap PNG
- Download the template for your exact vehicle configuration. Tesla’s custom-wrap repository provides templates and examples for Cybertruck; Model 3 variants; Model Y variants, including Model Y L; Model S variants; and Model X (2021+). Choose the template that matches your model and variant.
- Edit the template rather than starting with a car photo. Tesla instructs creators to fill the white areas with their design. Preserve the template’s layout so the artwork maps correctly to the on-screen vehicle.
- Export within Tesla’s stated file limits. Save as a PNG with dimensions from 512 × 512 to 1024 × 1024 pixels and a maximum size of 1 MB. Use a filename no longer than 30 characters, containing only letters, numbers, underscores, dashes, and spaces.
Choose how to transfer the image
Tesla documents two ways to add custom wraps. Use whichever suits your setup; a USB drive is not required if you use the app.

Tesla lists exFAT, FAT 32, MS-DOS FAT, ext3, and ext4 as supported USB file systems; NTFS is not supported. The drive should not contain map or firmware updates. Tesla states a limit of up to 10 wraps from the app and up to 10 from USB.
Apply the wrap in the vehicle
Open App Launcher > Toybox > Paint Shop > Wraps and select the uploaded design. Tesla’s 2025.44.25.1 release notes also point to the paint/license-plate button under Controls > Software. Menu labels and availability may vary with vehicle software; consult current release notes for the vehicle if the path differs.

Model availability and software versions
Tesla’s 2025.44.25.1 release-note entry describes Paint Shop for Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck, including preloaded designs and custom uploads via USB. A later 2026.26 release-note entry describes app uploads using Tesla App v4.59.0 or later and lists availability worldwide for Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck. Availability can depend on the vehicle’s current software and configuration, so these dated release-note descriptions should not be treated as a guarantee for every individual car.

If a custom wrap does not appear
- Check the file: confirm it is a PNG, is within the stated pixel dimensions and 1 MB size limit, and has an allowed filename.
- Check the template: make sure the artwork was created on the template for the exact model and variant.
- For app uploads: confirm the Tesla app is version 4.59.0 or later and use Creations > Wrap > Upload.
- For USB: confirm the folder is named
Wrapsand sits at the drive’s root, the drive uses a supported file system, and it does not contain map or firmware updates. - Check the car’s software and menu: open Paint Shop from Toybox and check the current vehicle release notes if the menu or feature is missing.
