Tensor G6 vs G5: Pixel Benchmarks Show Faster CPU, Mixed Results

Published Pixel tests favor Tensor G6 for CPU benchmarks, but GPU and sustained-load results are mixed—and the scores reflect whole phones, not isolated chips.

Tensor G6 is the newer chip, and published Pixel 11 tests show higher CPU benchmark scores than Pixel 10 tests—but not a clean win in every workload. In Beebom’s comparison, the G6-equipped Pixel 11 Pro XL scored higher in Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu overall, while its AnTuTu GPU subscore was lower and its CPU throttling result retained a smaller share of peak performance. These are phone-to-phone tests, not a controlled comparison of processor chips in identical devices.

Which phones use Tensor G5 and Tensor G6?

Google associates Tensor G5 with the Pixel 10 generation and Tensor G6 with Pixel 11 devices. That makes the practical choice a comparison between phones and their configurations, not a choice between standalone processors. Google’s Tensor G5 announcement describes G5 in the Pixel 10, while its Pixel comparison page and hardware specifications identify G6 with Pixel 11 devices.

Google’s official pages reviewed do not provide a complete G5-versus-G6 CPU and GPU specification sheet or a standardized benchmark comparison. They do associate Pixel 11 security features with G6, including quantum-safe secure boot, Tensor security core, Titan M3 and Trusty. Those security capabilities are separate from the performance scores below.

How do the published G5 and G6 benchmark results compare?

Beebom tested a Pixel 11 Pro XL with Tensor G6 against a Pixel 10 Pro with Tensor G5. Its 2026 results show a stronger G6-device result in CPU benchmarks and AnTuTu total, but lower GPU subscore and lower retained performance in its sustained CPU test.

What the CPU scores suggest

In Beebom’s Geekbench 6 run, the Pixel 11 Pro XL scored higher in both single-core and multi-core tests than the Pixel 10 Pro. That supports a CPU-performance advantage for the tested G6 phone in that benchmark; it does not establish a universal gain for every Pixel 11 model or task.

Why the GPU and sustained-load results complicate the verdict

The same Beebom comparison reports a lower AnTuTu GPU subscore for the G6 phone. Its 15-minute CPU Throttling Test also reports 47% retained performance for the G6 device, compared with 61% for the G5 device. A lower retained share in that test is not the same thing as a lower peak CPU score: it describes how much of the test device’s peak performance remained under that sustained workload.

Why do other Pixel benchmark results differ?

Different publications and handset models produce different scores, so results should stay attached to their source, phone and benchmark rather than being averaged into a single supposed chip score.

Tom’s Guide, Geekbench 6 single-core 2,664 2,345
Tom’s Guide, Geekbench 6 multi-core 7,347 6,581
Tom’s Guide, 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited 84.28 fps 80.58 fps

These are results from Tom’s Guide’s 2026 Pixel 11 review table, a separate handset test from Beebom’s comparison.

G5 results also vary within the Pixel 10 lineup. Android Central reports Geekbench 6 scores of 2,179 single-core and 4,777 multi-core for Pixel 10, versus 2,333 and 6,375 for Pixel 10 Pro/XL. It notes that the Pro models’ vapor chamber and differing memory configurations can contribute to benchmark differences. Its table reports less than 20 fps for Pixel 10 devices in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme; that is a different test from Tom’s Guide’s Wild Life Unlimited result, so the frame rates are not directly comparable. What do the results establish about on-device AI?

Google said in its 2025 G5 announcement that Gemini Nano runs “2.6x faster and 2x more efficiently” for use cases including Pixel Screenshots and Recorder, citing Tensor G5 performance and optimizations in the latest model. This is Google’s claim about G5 and those use cases—not a measured G5-versus-G6 result.

Beebom also reports a CPU-based on-device Gemma test. Because that test does not engage the TPU, its CPU measurements should not be read as a measure of TPU performance. The published evidence here therefore does not establish a direct G5/G6 comparison for TPU-driven AI workloads.

Which chip is the better choice?

If your priority is the newer Pixel generation and the tested CPU performance, the published results favor the G6-equipped Pixel 11 phones. The evidence is less decisive for graphics or long sustained workloads: Beebom’s G6 phone had the lower AnTuTu GPU subscore and retained a smaller share of peak performance in its CPU throttling test, while Tom’s Guide reported a modestly higher 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited result for Pixel 11 than Pixel 10. These tests measure different things and come from different phone tests.

For a purchase or upgrade, compare the actual Pixel models you would buy: model-specific cooling and memory can affect results, and the chip is only one part of the phone. Consider the phone’s overall configuration and features alongside these benchmark results rather than treating one score as a guaranteed everyday-performance outcome.
