Those are reported comparison-page results, not a controlled guarantee for every phone or task. The chips also differ in CPU design, and some other benchmark figures are not directly comparable across Android and iOS.
How the Tensor G4 and A16 Bionic compare on paper
The Tensor G4 is listed with eight CPU cores, while the A16 Bionic has six. Their core layouts and maximum frequencies differ, but neither core count nor clock speed alone predicts how quickly a phone will complete a particular task.

| Specification or result | Google Tensor G4 | Apple A16 Bionic |
|---|---|---|
| CPU layout | 8 cores: 1 Cortex-X4, 3 Cortex-A720, 4 Cortex-A520 | 6 cores: 2 Everest performance cores, 4 Sawtooth efficiency cores |
| Listed maximum CPU frequency | 3.1 GHz | 3.46 GHz |
| Memory bandwidth listed | 68.2 GB/s | 51.2 GB/s |
These architecture, frequency, and bandwidth figures are reported by NanoReview’s Tensor G4 vs A16 Bionic comparison. The listed bandwidth is a specification, not proof that one chip is faster in every workload.
Geekbench 6 CPU results: A16 leads in this comparison
| Geekbench 6 test | Tensor G4 | A16 Bionic | Higher reported score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-core | 1,707 | 2,631 | A16 Bionic |
| Multi-core | 4,431 | 6,602 | A16 Bionic |
NanoReview reports 11 Geekbench CPU samples for Tensor G4 and 24 for A16 in this comparison. Treat the figures as published comparison results, not a large controlled lab study or a promise of what every handset will score. Results can vary with the tested phone, software, and benchmark version.

Why the AnTuTu and GPU figures need more caution
The same comparison lists AnTuTu 11 totals of 1,519,937 for Tensor G4 and 1,626,008 for A16 Bionic. NanoReview cautions that Android and iOS AnTuTu totals are not directly comparable, so the higher number should not be read as a definitive cross-platform win. The page shows 25 Tensor G4 AnTuTu tests and 36 A16 tests in its aggregation.
It also reports Geekbench GPU compute scores of 8,744 for Tensor G4 and 22,851 for A16. Those results use different APIs—OpenCL and Metal—so they do not represent an equivalent head-to-head workload. They cannot establish a universal GPU winner.

Which phones use these chips?
Google associates Tensor G4 with the Pixel 9, and Apple identifies A16 Bionic as the processor in the iPhone 15. These links identify the phones as device-level examples; Google’s current storefront is a family page rather than a preserved standalone Pixel 9 specification page.

A processor benchmark is only one part of a phone comparison. The complete device and software affect measured performance, and buyers may care just as much about camera quality, battery life, thermals, price, operating system, and support. The cited results do not establish a controlled winner for sustained performance, efficiency, or every real-world task.

What the results mean when choosing a phone
- If your comparison is specifically about the cited Geekbench 6 CPU scores, A16 Bionic leads in both reported tests.
- Do not use the AnTuTu totals or the GPU compute scores as stand-alone proof of a cross-platform winner; the source flags comparability limits for both.
- For a purchase, compare the Pixel 9 and iPhone 15 as complete phones against the features and budget that matter to you, rather than choosing from chip specifications alone.
