The quickest documented route is to create an Agent from an EdgeOne Makers template, run it locally, configure an institution-approved model and services, then deploy it. That scaffolds an application—not a campus-ready helpdesk. Your university still needs to supply approved support content, decide how identity and personal data are handled, and define when a human takes over.
What EdgeOne Makers provides
Tencent describes EdgeOne Makers as a development and deployment platform on Tencent EdgeOne infrastructure, with support for AI applications and serverless frontend and dynamic API projects. Its Agent guide documents both template-based creation and CLI scaffolding. Makers platform overview · Agent Development guide

Documented Agent template families include Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents, LangGraph, DeepAgents, CrewAI, and minimal Python and JavaScript examples. The documentation lists these options; it does not establish which framework is best for a university helpdesk.

Create an Agent project
In the Tencent Cloud console, open Makers → Agents, choose a scenario template, name the project, and create it. The documented CLI alternative is
edgeone makers create --template openai-agents-starter-node. Project initialization includes a first deployment, according to Tencent’s Agent Development guide.#1 Best Overall

Run it locally
Use
edgeone makers devto start local development. The quick-start guide describes a local Agent page and an observability page. If you need project settings and environment variables from the console while debugging, follow its project-linking step to synchronize them. See Deploy Your First Agent with EdgeOne: Local Debugging & Production. -
Configure the model and institutional services
Makers documents Agent projects and gateway configuration, including a model provider’s base URL and API key. Select a model provider through your institution’s approval process, and configure credentials in the project’s approved runtime environment. Do not place secret keys in browser-delivered code. The platform setup documentation does not establish a ready-made campus identity, knowledge-base, or ticketing integration; those connections must be designed for your institution.

Deploy the application
The documented CLI deployment command is
edgeone makers deploy. Alternatively, Tencent documents importing a Git project; commits to the selected production branch trigger deployments, withmainas the default branch. The deployment guide also describes direct upload for project assets. See Deploying Websites Quickly via Makers.Quick wins for a faster PC:

That guide warns that login-free deployment does not retrieve remote environment variables or inject AI-gateway credentials. A chatbot that needs those settings requires authenticated deployment and correctly configured runtime environment values.
Make it a campus helpdesk before releasing it
The platform workflow does not decide what a university chatbot is allowed to answer or what it should do with sensitive cases. Before using real student or staff data, campus IT and the relevant university offices should settle these implementation questions:
- Approved answers: Identify the current public help articles the bot may use, who owns them, and how outdated or conflicting information will be corrected.
- Sign-in and access: Decide whether the chatbot is public or requires campus sign-in. If it is personalized or can access account-specific systems, scope the identity integration and permissions rather than assuming the template supplies them.
- Data handling: Determine what information users may enter, what is sent to the model provider, and how conversation logs are retained and accessed. Choose a provider and processing arrangement acceptable to the institution.
- Ticketing and escalation: Define what counts as an escalation, what details may be passed along, and how support staff receive it. Provide a route to a person for uncertain answers, account-specific problems, and other cases the bot is not authorized to resolve.
- Operations ownership: Assign responsibility for maintaining help content, reviewing bot behavior, managing deployment credentials, and responding when the service or an integration fails.
These are campus design and governance decisions, not guarantees or built-in policies established by the Makers documentation.

Test the support behavior before broad release
Use a limited test group and approved content before making the chatbot broadly available. Check ordinary account, Wi-Fi, and software-access questions against the university’s actual help articles. Include questions with missing details, ambiguous wording, outdated information, and requests involving another person’s account. Confirm that the bot asks only for information it needs, does not expose credentials or private records, and routes uncertain or account-specific issues to the human process your team has defined.
Track incorrect answers and failed handoffs, correct the underlying content or workflow, and repeat the relevant tests before expanding access. These are practical release checks, not a claim that Makers includes a campus-specific test suite.
Choose a template based on the work it must do
Start with the framework your team can maintain, then assess whether the helpdesk needs persistent conversational state or tool use and how campus identity, approved content, and ticketing will connect. Also account for where model requests and data are processed, who will operate deployments, and what review and escalation controls are required. Tencent’s listed templates provide starting points, not comparative evidence about helpdesk quality.
The cited vendor guides document commands and deployment routes, but do not establish campus-specific accuracy, latency, cost, adoption, or time to launch. Treat those outcomes as matters to measure in your own environment rather than assuming a template determines them.
