Yes—Teamwork is a plausible fit for agencies, consultancies, and other client-service teams that need to log project-linked billable time and review it against rates and invoiced hours. It documents billable and non-billable time tracking, configurable rate options, timesheets, and reporting. The fit depends on whether its rate hierarchy, permissions, reporting, accounting connections, and current plan match your workflow; these capabilities are documented, not a guarantee of billing accuracy.
How Teamwork handles billable hours
Team members can log, edit, and delete entries through My Timesheet. Time tracking must be enabled for the relevant project, and project and task permissions affect where a person can enter time. Teamwork also says entries can be created from several areas of the product. See Teamwork’s My Timesheet guide for the documented workflow.

Each entry can be classified as billable or non-billable, so logged hours can distinguish client-chargeable work from internal or otherwise non-chargeable time. Recording time alone does not establish that it is billable: teams still need to set rates and classify entries appropriately.

How the rate hierarchy works
Teamwork supports billable rates at multiple levels. Its onboarding guidance says the most specific applicable rate takes precedence, in this order:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Project rate: for a negotiated or client-specific project rate.
- Client-role rate: for pricing a role differently for a particular client.
- Role rate: for a consistent rate across people in the same role.
- Site-wide user rate: a default rate for an individual when no more specific rate applies.
Teamwork’s guides describe these options and recommend using site-wide rates as defaults, with role or project rates for exceptions. Review the billable rates guide and project rate guide against your actual rate rules before relying on reported revenue.
Separate client billing rates from internal cost rates
A billable rate is what the business charges a client; a cost rate represents internal cost and can be used in profit calculations. Teamwork says cost rates are site-wide and visible only to site owners and owner-company administrators. Visibility of project financial information, including billable-rate information, is also controlled by permissions. Check who can see budgets and profitability data before exposing financial details to project participants. The cost rates documentation and project financial permissions guide describe the relevant controls.

What the reports can show—and a rate limitation
The Time Report can group time by user, project, task, team, or company; compare billable and non-billable time; and help reveal gaps between billable time and invoiced time. Filtered data can also be exported. Those features make it useful for reviewing how logged hours relate to billing, but they do not by themselves confirm that every entry, rate, or invoice is correct. See the Time Report guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor projects with changing or mixed rates, a single rate column may not accurately represent the work. Teamwork’s reporting FAQ gives an effective-rate calculation: Billable Total ÷ Billable Time, which can be implemented using a formula field. That figure is an average across the included billable time, not a replacement for checking the underlying rates. See Teamwork’s reporting FAQ.

Checks to make before choosing Teamwork
- Confirm time tracking is enabled for the projects where hours need to be captured, and that users have permission to log time against the right projects and tasks.
- Write down your rate rules and test a sample project, including any client-role or project-specific exceptions.
- Decide which people should see billable rates, budgets, cost rates, and profitability information, then check the permissions that enforce those boundaries.
- Verify that the Time Report’s groupings, billable-versus-non-billable view, exports, and effective-rate calculation meet your review needs.
- Confirm that the accounting connection and invoice workflow work for your configuration, and identify which current plan includes the required features.
Who is Teamwork a good fit for?
Teamwork merits consideration if your team needs to capture time against client projects, apply different rates by user or work context, and review billable time alongside invoiced hours. It is less straightforward to assess for a business with complex changing rates or strict financial visibility rules until those scenarios have been tested against the rate and permission settings. The available documentation supports a feature-based fit assessment, not a claim that Teamwork will improve billing outcomes for every team.
