There is no evidence-based universal winner between TCL and Hisense 85-inch TVs. Choose by the exact model and year, then compare its features against your room, gaming needs, preferred HDR formats and smart platform, installation requirements, and current price. A series name alone is not enough: TCL’s 2025 QM7K and QM8K are distinct from its 2026 QM7L and QM8L, while Hisense’s current 85-inch listings include the U7SG and U8QG alongside older U8 models.
Which 85-inch TCL or Hisense TV should you buy?
Start with the complete model number, not just “TCL QM” or “Hisense U8.” The official US product pages identify these 85-inch candidates:

Check the label on the TV or the retailer listing for the full SKU and year before comparing specifications. Do not transfer a feature from a 2026 TCL generation to a 2025 one, or from an older Hisense U8 to the U8QG.
Is TCL or Hisense better for an 85-inch TV in your room?
Room conditions can matter more than a headline brightness claim. Hisense describes anti-reflection features for its U7 family, while TCL’s QM-series pages highlight Mini-LED and brightness features. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent measurements of glare handling or brightness in a living room. Check the screen treatment and brightness information on the exact model page, and consider how much daylight and direct light reach your screen.

A stated peak-brightness figure, where listed, does not by itself predict how bright the whole picture will look in your room or how well reflections will be controlled. The reviewed manufacturer material does not establish a controlled, head-to-head performance winner for these 85-inch models.
What should you compare for gaming and motion?
For the exact SKU you are considering, verify the native refresh rate, variable refresh support, HDMI capabilities, and supported game features in its official specifications. Do not assume that two models in the same series—or similarly named generations—share identical ports or gaming features.

The official pages describe product features but do not provide independent latency or motion testing that settles which brand is better for gaming. If responsiveness or motion handling is decisive for you, treat manufacturer feature lists as a checklist rather than a measured ranking.
Compare HDR formats and smart TV software by model
Check the exact television’s supported HDR formats and listed operating system before buying. TCL’s named QM models and the current Hisense U7SG and U8QG listings are presented as Google TV products, but the model’s own page remains the right place to confirm its features. Do not infer format support or software details from a brand name or an older generation.

Will the 85-inch TV fit your stand or wall mount?
An 85-inch diagonal does not tell you whether a television will fit your furniture or an existing mount. Before purchase, compare the precise model’s dimensions with and without its stand, the feet or stand layout, weight, and VESA mounting pattern. Hisense retains specification records for earlier models, and TCL lists model-specific product information; use the specification for the exact SKU rather than a family-level description.
- Measure the available width and depth on your TV stand, including where the feet land.
- For a wall mount, match the model’s VESA pattern and weight to the mount’s supported range.
- Check delivery access and installation constraints for a large screen before ordering.
How to decide which one is the better value
There is no stable same-date, same-seller price comparison established for these models. Prices and inventory change, so compare the exact SKUs on the same day and account for delivery, installation, and return terms. A lower price is not directly comparable if it refers to a different model year or includes different services.
- Write down the full model numbers and years for the TCL and Hisense televisions you are considering.
- Open each manufacturer’s page and compare the exact specifications relevant to your room, gaming, HDR, and software preferences.
- Confirm dimensions, stand layout, weight, and VESA compatibility for your installation.

The official product pages provide useful model-specific claims and feature lists, but they do not establish an independent winner across picture quality, gaming, or real-room performance. A sensible choice is therefore the exact model that fits your requirements at a price and with installation terms you have verified—not whichever brand name sounds better.
