These are useful troubleshooting groups—not a measured ranking: TCL’s support index covers many soundbar issues but does not publish frequency data. Exact ports, menus, formats, and pairing steps vary by model.
1. The soundbar is connected to the TV but there is no sound
First check the basics: confirm both devices have power, neither is muted, the cable is firmly seated at both ends, and the soundbar is set to the input that matches the connection. An HDMI ARC connection will not play TV audio if the bar is set to Bluetooth or Optical. TCL’s connection troubleshooting guidance covers ARC, optical, AUX, Bluetooth, and power synchronization.

For HDMI ARC or eARC
- Connect the TV’s labeled HDMI ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (ARC) port. Do not use the soundbar’s HDMI IN port for this TV connection.
- Select ARC or HDMI ARC as the soundbar input.
- On the TV, set audio output to HDMI ARC, ARC, or Receiver, and enable ARC and HDMI-CEC. On TCL Roku TVs, CEC settings may be under Settings > System > Control other devices (CEC). Other TV makers use names such as Anynet+, Simplink, or Bravia Sync.
- If the TV remains silent, temporarily set its digital audio format to PCM and test again. PCM is a compatibility test, not a universal fix; supported formats vary. TCL notes some soundbars may not support Dolby Digital or DTS over ARC.
- Disconnect power from both the TV and soundbar for about 30 seconds, reconnect them, and select ARC again. If needed, test another suitable cable or an ARC-labeled TV port.
TCL’s HDMI troubleshooting instructions also warn that another active input, such as Bluetooth or Optical, can interfere with ARC operation. A replacement High-Speed HDMI cable is worth testing only after verifying the ports and settings; a cable cannot correct an unsupported audio format or a hardware fault.

For an optical connection
- Make sure the optical cable is fully seated and the TV is set to send audio through Optical or Digital Audio Out.
- Select Optical on the soundbar.
- Set the TV’s digital audio output to PCM or PCM-Stereo, then test sound again.
TCL’s optical no-sound guidance recommends checking the connection and PCM-Stereo output. Replace the optical cable only if it appears damaged or fails a test with a known-working cable.

2. The wireless subwoofer will not pair or play
Many TCL soundbar subwoofers pair automatically once both units have power. Give that process time to finish before attempting manual pairing. If the subwoofer indicator keeps blinking or no bass is audible, consult the manual for your exact model rather than assuming the button sequence or indicator color is universal.
Try these checks in order
- Confirm the subwoofer and soundbar are powered and that the subwoofer is the one supplied with the bar or a replacement specifically listed as compatible.
- If automatic pairing does not complete, follow the model’s manual-pairing steps. For supported S Series models, TCL’s guide uses the subwoofer’s Pair button and then powers on the soundbar; a solid indicator signals connection on those models.
- If it still will not connect, turn off and unplug both units for at least 60 seconds, reconnect them, and allow automatic pairing to start again.
- For a test, place the subwoofer within about 10 feet of the soundbar, with no obstruction between them.
- Move nearby wireless devices—such as Wi-Fi routers, cordless phones, or microwaves—away temporarily to check for interference.
Use the TCL S Series pairing guide for that series’ instructions. Subwoofers are not necessarily interchangeable just because both are TCL products. Contact TCL if the indicator remains off despite a working outlet, pairing never finishes, the subwoofer stays silent after pairing, or the link repeatedly drops.

3. The TV remote, power sync, or audio behavior is inconsistent
Remote volume or automatic power does not work
For control over HDMI, check that the soundbar is set to ARC, the TV audio output is ARC or Receiver, and both ARC and CEC are enabled. CEC has different names on different TV brands. Power-cycle both devices and verify that the HDMI cable is connected to the labeled ARC ports. On some models, Bluetooth or another selected input may take priority; certain soundbars also have a model-specific Auto Power On setting. Check the manual for the exact option and menu path.
There is a delay, echo, static, hissing, or uneven volume
These symptoms do not point to one universal cause. Check the relevant model-specific TCL support article and test one setting or connection at a time. If the symptom began after changing an audio format or connection, restore the previous setting to see whether the behavior changes. Keep the soundbar’s model number and TV model handy when contacting support.

When troubleshooting does not resolve it
Identify the soundbar model and serial number, note the connection type and selected input, and record the subwoofer indicator state if applicable. Contact TCL support when the unit has no power indicator, repeated pairing attempts fail, or a connected subwoofer remains silent. TCL’s soundbar troubleshooting index links to additional issue-specific guidance; it is a list of support topics, not evidence that these are statistically the three most frequent failures.
