Independent reviews praise its color, HDR impact and dark-scene performance, but note uneven screen tones and built-in audio that falls short of the picture. It is a strong option for movies and gaming if those trade-offs—and the specifications of your regional model—work for you.
What the TCL 65C7K is
The C7K combines a quantum-dot LCD panel with a Mini LED backlight and local dimming. That combination is designed to deliver brighter highlights and better contrast than a conventional edge-lit LCD, while retaining the high brightness that can suit a well-lit room. It is not an OLED television.

Specifications vary by market, so “the 65C7K” does not guarantee one universal set of ports or backlight figures. TCL France advertises a native 144Hz refresh rate, a CrystGlow HVA panel and up to 2,048 dimming zones, as well as 2,600 nits of HDR brightness; those are manufacturer claims for that market, not independent test results. What Hi-Fi? lists 1,008 zones for the 65-inch set it reviewed. TCL France’s 65C7K specifications and What Hi-Fi?’s 2025 review therefore should not be read as establishing a single global zone count.

How good is its picture?
Reviewers found the C7K’s central strength to be a bright, colorful image with convincing contrast. What Hi-Fi? praised its deep blacks, HDR highlights and ability to retain useful detail in dark scenes. It also found Filmmaker Mode tracked HDR and SDR standards closely, making it a sensible starting point for viewers who prefer a more faithful image over a vivid showroom look.

TechRadar measured peak HDR brightness at 2,784 nits in Standard Mode and 1,790 nits in Filmmaker Mode. These are that publication’s measurements, not guaranteed results for every unit or mode configuration. The difference also illustrates why a peak-brightness figure needs its picture-mode context: the brightest preset and a more accuracy-oriented mode do not produce the same result. TechRadar’s 65-inch TV review coverage also praises contrast but reports uneven screen tones, particularly noticeable when watching black-and-white films.
That uniformity caveat matters most for viewers sensitive to patches or shifts across a large, relatively even image. The reviews support a strong picture overall, but they do not establish that every C7K panel will show the same uniformity—or that every unit will be free of it. If you notice distracting non-uniformity on your own set, judge it using the content you actually watch and consult the retailer’s return policy rather than assuming a published review measurement predicts your individual panel.

Is the TCL 65C7K good for gaming?
Yes, the reviewed UK model offers a compelling feature set for console and PC gaming. TechRadar reports 4K at up to 144Hz, FreeSync Premium Pro and 13.5ms of input lag. The latter is the publication’s measured result; it is not a universal guarantee across modes, firmware or regional variants. Computer Bild’s German review also praised 144Hz gaming and motion handling. Computer Bild’s review, published 29 December 2025, rated the set 2.0 (“gut”).

Before buying for a particular gaming setup, confirm that your local model, chosen HDMI input and connected device support the resolution and refresh-rate combination you want. The UK review lists two HDMI 2.1 inputs; TCL Australia’s specification sheet lists four. Do not assume the Australian port count applies to a UK or other regional set. For a high-bandwidth PC or console connection, use a cable rated for the required mode and verify the TV’s input settings and device output if 4K/144Hz or variable refresh rate is unavailable.

The result is bright highlights, deeper blacks and greater contrast, without the burn-in concern associated with premium displays

Enhanced QLED Color delivers up to 1.07 billion colors with a wide color gamut, while TCL's AiPQ Pro Processor intelligently optimizes color, contrast and clarity for movies, streaming, sports and games
How good is the built-in sound?
The TV has Bang & Olufsen-branded audio, and What Hi-Fi? lists a 60W system with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Reviewers regard the built-in sound as usable, but less impressive than the picture: TechRadar found the bass and soundstage limited. A soundbar is an optional upgrade if you want fuller low frequencies or a more expansive presentation, especially for films. The reviews do not establish that a particular soundbar was tested with this set.
Regional specifications to check

| Market or source | What is stated | What to take from it |
|---|---|---|
| TCL France | Native 144Hz; up to 2,048 dimming zones; 2,600 nits HDR brightness | Manufacturer claims on the French product page; not independent measurements. |
| What Hi-Fi? review of the 65-inch set | 1,008 dimming zones; Google TV; 60W Bang & Olufsen system | Specifications reported for the reviewed set; not proof that every regional variant is identical. |
| TCL Australia specification sheet | Four HDMI 2.1/HDCP 2.2 ports; 64GB storage; VESA 300 × 300mm | Australian-market specifications. The wall mount is purchased separately. |
| TechRadar UK review | Two HDMI 2.1 inputs | UK review specification; it differs from the Australian port count. |
For a wall installation, confirm the VESA pattern and screw requirements against your own unit’s manual. TCL Australia specifies a 300 × 300mm pattern and M6 × 16 screws for its listed model; that does not establish the mounting dimensions for every country’s version. The Australian sheet says the mount is sold separately. TCL Australia’s 65C7K specification sheet is the source for those details.

- A good fit: Viewers who want a bright, contrast-rich 65-inch LCD for HDR films, television and gaming, and who value high refresh-rate support.
- Think carefully if: You are especially sensitive to screen uniformity, want strong bass and a wide soundstage without external audio, or need a specific number of HDMI 2.1 inputs.
- Check locally: Confirm the exact model suffix, HDMI capabilities, VESA fit and smart-TV apps available in your country before purchase.
Prices quoted in reviews are historical test prices, not current offers. What Hi-Fi? listed £899 / AU$1,595 in its review, while Computer Bild framed its test at €800; these figures are tied to those publications’ reviews, not a present-day price comparison. The value judgment depends on the current local price and alternatives available where you live.

Verdict
The TCL 65C7K makes a persuasive case as a bright Mini LED TV with strong contrast, colorful HDR and gaming features that can reach 4K/144Hz on the reviewed UK variant. Its main compromises are a reported uniformity weakness and sound that may leave movie fans wanting more. Check the local specification before purchase, and consider a soundbar only if the built-in system does not meet your needs.
