1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore extracting code from an unfamiliar module, trace the behavior you want to preserve from its entry point through its callers, dependencies, and shared state. A long method or crowded class is a reason to investigate, not proof that extraction is the right fix. Make the route visible, choose a boundary that fits the actual relationships, and change the structure in small steps you can verify.
What should I trace before I extract anything from a messy module?
Start by naming the behavior that must remain observable. Look for the callers and tests that reveal what the module does; an internal method name may not capture everything other code relies on. Then follow the route into the candidate code and note alternate callers, callbacks, and dependencies along the way.

“Tape” here means making that route visible—not literally recording execution. A simple call-path sketch or notes about callers and collaborators can help you see where the behavior starts and what it touches before you decide what to move.

1. Identify the behavior and its callers
Choose a concrete behavior to investigate rather than treating the whole module as one problem. Find where execution enters for that behavior, which callers reach it, and which tests exercise it. Include less obvious routes such as callbacks or alternate callers if they affect the same code.

- Easy to replacement the screen cover, fit for any plastic cover case such as smartphone / tablets etc
2. Map what the candidate code uses
List the methods, shared state, and collaborators used by the code you might extract. Mark which of those will remain in the original module. Pay particular attention to calls that cross the proposed boundary in both directions: candidate methods may call methods that are staying behind, and the remaining code may depend on the candidate.
3. Compare possible boundaries
Before choosing a boundary, compare the options against the relationships you have mapped:

- Which entry points and callers reach the candidate code?
- Which dependencies and callbacks cross the proposed boundary?
- What shared state or data must pass through the new interface?
- Which existing tests can observe behavior on either side?
A boundary that looks tidy by line count may be awkward if it leaves frequent cross-calls or requires a vague interface. Fowler’s large-class case study examines relationships between methods, including calls from methods under consideration to methods that would remain, before settling on an extraction. Martin Fowler, “Refactoring: This class is too large”.

Entry point and seam are different things
An entry point is the route into the behavior you are trying to understand. A seam is a place where you can change behavior without editing code at that place. The first helps scope your investigation; the second can help isolate or redirect behavior. They are related tools, not interchangeable terms.

Martin Fowler attributes this definition to Michael Feathers: “a seam is a place where you can alter behavior in your program without editing in that place.” Seams can help tests substitute or redirect dependencies, add observability, or support gradual displacement of legacy behavior. The suitable mechanism depends on the language, framework, and existing style; there is no context-free best choice. Martin Fowler, “Legacy Seam”.
When is extraction actually the right move?
A long method or large class is a code smell: a signal to investigate, not an automatic instruction to extract. Fowler notes that a smell does not always point to an underlying problem. Consider whether the candidate code represents a coherent responsibility with a clear name and interface. If its purpose is vague or it remains tangled with the code left behind, pause and reconsider the boundary instead of extracting mechanically. Martin Fowler, “Code Smell”.

- Start the First Gap on Glued Screens: Suction cup, ultra-thin metal pry tool, and curved screen opener help create entry on tight seams when opening iPhone, Android phones, iPad, and other tablets.
- Keep the Seam Open While You Work: The 4 plastic triangle paddles help slice softened adhesive and stay in place around the edge, reducing the need to reopen the same section again and again.
- Non-Marring Opening for Laptops and Housings: Plastic opening tools, wide opener, and long spudger help release MacBook and laptop bottom-cover clips with more control and fewer pry marks.
- Anti-Static Tools for Internal Repairs: ESD-safe spudgers and anti-static brush are ideal for disconnecting battery and flex connectors, guiding cables, lifting small sockets, and cleaning around delicate components.
- Complete 15-in-1 Professional Assortment: Includes 4 plastic triangle paddles, 2 spudgers, 2 double-sided spudgers, 1 double-sided wide opener, 1 double-sided long spudger, 1 anti-static brush, 1 metal thin pry tool, 1 curved screen opener, 1 dual-head opening tool, and 1 suction cup.
How to make the change in checkable steps
- Describe what must stay the same. Identify the observable behavior, callers, and relevant tests before moving code.
- Trace the route. Follow execution from the entry point into the candidate code and record alternate callers and callbacks.
- Draw the boundary. Mark dependencies, shared state, and cross-calls that will remain after extraction. Decide what the new interface must expose.
- Use a seam if observation is blocked. If a dependency makes behavior hard to test or redirect, look for a seam suited to the project’s language and conventions.
- Move one coherent responsibility. Keep the interface clear, preserve observable behavior, and run the relevant tests.
- Reassess before continuing. Check whether the extracted unit has a clearer purpose and manageable relationships. If not, revise the boundary before making another change.
Refactoring is a change to internal structure that keeps observable behavior the same. Fowler describes it as a sequence of small, behavior-preserving transformations. When practical, separate pure moves and renames from logic edits so tests and code review can distinguish structural changes from changes in behavior. Martin Fowler, “Refactoring” and “Refactoring: This class is too large”.

For a book-length treatment, Pearson lists Martin Fowler’s Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Code, second edition, and describes it as containing more than 40 refactorings with implementation guidance and examples. That catalog description does not establish a publication year for the count, and the workflow above does not require buying the book.
