Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo get a Tanzanian IP address while you are abroad, connect to a VPN server located in Tanzania. The website you visit will then see the VPN server’s public IP address rather than your usual connection’s IP. Before subscribing, confirm that Tanzania is available on your chosen plan; a listed server location does not guarantee that a particular website will accept the connection.
Choose a VPN with a Tanzania server
Look for Tanzania as an available VPN exit location. Proton VPN says it offers Tanzania servers, but its Tanzania location is not included in the Free plan. Its Tanzania server page describes connecting to a Tanzanian server to appear to browse from Tanzania. NordVPN also lists Tanzania among its server locations in its official server list. That list does not establish which plans include Tanzania or whether a particular destination website will accept a connection.

These are examples, not a ranking. Check the provider’s current app and plan details before paying, since server availability and plan access can change. Also consider its device support and privacy and security documentation. Proton describes its encryption and no-logs policy on its site; those are provider claims, not an independent audit or a speed comparison.
Connect and check the location
- Confirm your goal. You need a Tanzanian VPN exit IP if you want a website to see a connection coming from Tanzania. Simply using a VPN while physically in Tanzania is a different situation.
- Check plan access. Confirm Tanzania is available on your intended subscription. Proton says its Free plan does not include the Tanzania location.
- Install and sign in. Download the provider’s app for your device, sign in, and find Tanzania in its server or location list. Proton documents app connections on major computer and mobile platforms.
- Connect to Tanzania. Select the location and wait for the app to report that the connection is active.
- Verify the public IP. Use an IP-checking page to see whether the connection is identified as Tanzanian, then try the specific website or service you need.
A VPN location claim is not a promise that every service will recognize or allow the connection. Websites may block VPN addresses or report a location that differs from the server label. If that happens, try another Tanzania server listed in the app or contact the provider. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.

Understand Tanzania’s dated VPN notice
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) issued a notice on 13 October 2023 saying individuals and companies whose work makes VPN use indispensable must declare their VPN and relevant information, including the IP address, by 30 October 2023. The notice also refers to prohibited content and warns of regulatory action against unauthorized VPN use. It states: “TCRA will proceed to take regulatory actions against unauthorized use of VPN including disabling access to such VPN.” Read the dated TCRA notice in context.
The notice page remained listed and showed an update date of 28 July 2026. TCRA also lists an Online Content Regulations amendment published in June 2026. The available material does not establish whether the 2023 declaration deadline or requirements apply to an individual outside Tanzania connecting to a Tanzanian VPN endpoint. It therefore does not support a blanket conclusion that this use is either legal or illegal. The TCRA notice page and its 2026 amendment document are the relevant official materials. For a legal answer about your circumstances, ask TCRA for current clarification or consult a qualified Tanzanian lawyer. A VPN does not authorize access to prohibited content.

What a Tanzanian IP address can—and cannot—do
- It changes the IP a destination sees. A Tanzania exit server routes your traffic through that server, so the destination generally sees its public IP rather than your regular connection’s IP.
- It does not guarantee access. A site may block VPN traffic, use other signals to estimate location, or require an account or other eligibility checks. Test the specific destination rather than assuming that a Tanzanian IP will work.
- It is not a universal privacy solution. A VPN changes the network route and the IP visible to a destination; it does not make you anonymous or remove the need to assess the provider’s privacy practices.
