What a scrolling screenshot is (and what iPhone models support)
A scrolling screenshot is an iPhone screenshot that can automatically extend beyond the first screen. On iPhone, you’ll typically see this as Full Page (or an Extend option) right after you take a screenshot.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
In practice, support depends more on the iOS version and the app/content than on the phone model. Most iPhones that can run recent iOS versions can use Full Page screenshot capture when the current screen supports it.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Prerequisites before you try
- iOS/iPadOS up to date: Feature behavior can differ across releases. Keep your iPhone on the latest available iOS version.
- Use the correct timing: The Full Page/Extend control appears immediately after you take the screenshot.
- Supported content: Many browsers and content views support full-page capture; not every app does.
How to take a scrolling screenshot on iPhone
The workflow is consistent: take a normal screenshot, then expand it while the preview card is still on screen.
Step 1: Take a normal screenshot
Use the standard screenshot gesture for your iPhone model:
- Face ID iPhones (iPhone 12 and newer, including iPhone 15): Press Side Button + Volume Up at the same time.
- Home button iPhones (iPhone 8 and older): Press Top (or Side) + Home together.
You’ll see a thumbnail preview in the lower-left corner.
Step 2: Use the Full Page view (scroll capture)
Immediately after the thumbnail appears:
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail (or swipe it open).
- Look for the control labeled Full Page or an Extend option.
- If you see Full Page, tap it to generate a longer image.
- Wait for iPhone to finish rendering the extended capture, then confirm the result in the preview.
If you don’t see any extend/full-page control, your iPhone captured only the visible portion.
Step 3: Edit, save, and share
Once the full-page screenshot appears:
- Trim/Crop if needed using the crop handles.
- Tap Done to save, or use Share to send it.
- To keep it organized, you can save to Files instead of Photos.
Your final image will include the extended content (not just a single screen).

Where scrolling screenshots work best
Scrolling screenshots are most reliable when the on-screen content is built as a continuous scroll view and the system can capture it as a single rendered page.
Supported content types
- Webpages in Safari or supported browser views.
- Long articles and scrollable feeds.
- Long messages in some email or chat layouts.
- Printable or paged views that behave like a single document.
Common cases where it won’t extend
- Apps that use complex custom layouts (the system may only capture what’s visible).
- Video/stabilized overlays and some interactive widgets.
- Content with restricted rendering (some secure pages won’t allow full-page capture).
- Very dynamic screens where the system can’t reliably render beyond the first viewport.
Troubleshooting: Full Page or Extend won’t appear
If the Full Page option doesn’t show up, don’t waste time re-taking dozens of screenshots. Use the checks below in order—most fixes are quick.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Update iOS and restart
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Install the latest iOS update available for your device.
- After updating, restart your iPhone and try again.
A restart clears stuck UI states that can hide screenshot controls.
Try a different page position
Some pages only support full capture when the scroll view is in a stable state. Try this:
- Scroll slightly up or down, then take a fresh screenshot.
- Immediately tap the thumbnail and check for Full Page.
Check app-specific limitations
Even when your iPhone supports it, the current app may not. Test the same content type in another viewer:

- If you’re on a web page, try the same URL in Safari.
- If you’re in an in-app browser, consider opening the content in Safari.
Disable Low Power Mode and focus-related settings
Low Power Mode and certain focus/notification behaviors can sometimes make UI controls feel inconsistent. For a quick test:
- Go to Settings > Battery.
- Turn off Low Power Mode.
- Try the screenshot flow again.
Editing the result: crop, markup, and save options
After the full-page screenshot is generated, you can edit like any screenshot. The main differences are that you’ll likely have more content to crop and the aspect ratio may be taller than a typical screenshot.
Crop and annotate
Use built-in tools:
- Tap Crop to remove unwanted top/bottom areas.
- Use Markup tools such as pen, highlighter, and text (the toolbar appears while viewing the screenshot).
If you’re annotating a specific paragraph, zoom in on the preview before cropping.
Save as a file or share the full page
You can keep the full-page screenshot in whichever workflow you use most:
- Tap Share.
- Choose Save to Files to store it in iCloud Drive or locally.
- Or share directly to Messages, Mail, Notes, or a supported app.
Alternatives when scrolling screenshots aren’t available
When Full Page capture isn’t offered, you still have reliable options. Pick based on whether you need a single image or a quick record.

Use multiple standard screenshots and stitch
Take overlapping standard screenshots and combine them with stitching tools (either a dedicated app or a desktop workflow). The quality is often better when you ensure minimal overlap and consistent page positioning.
- Take 2–5 screenshots with small overlaps.
- Use a stitching app (or a computer tool) to merge them into one long image.
- Export as PNG to avoid recompression artifacts.
Use third-party apps that capture long pages
Some apps provide long-screen capture features beyond iOS’s built-in Full Page option. When choosing one, look for:
- Clear instructions for iPhone capture
- Support for the specific content you’re trying to capture (webpages vs documents)
- Export formats you need (PNG for crisp text, PDF for sharing)
Use iCloud Drive and markup for quick organization
If you’re capturing for later reference, you can keep a clean audit trail:
- Save each screenshot to a dedicated folder in iCloud Drive.
- Use Markup to add headings like “Section A” or dates.
- Share the folder or individual files as needed.
Scrolling screenshot on iPhone vs macOS and browser long screenshots
On Mac, you can capture full pages in more places depending on the app (for example, Safari offers full page screenshot options). On iPhone, the behavior depends heavily on system UI and app support.
If you need a consistent full-page capture for web research, using Safari on a Mac can be more predictable. For quick capture on the go, iPhone’s Full Page screenshot is usually the fastest route—when it appears.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting too long: If you ignore the screenshot thumbnail and it disappears, the Full Page option may be harder or impossible to trigger for that capture.
- Trying in the wrong view: Some screens won’t extend unless the scroll view is the primary content.
- Skipping edits that prevent confusion: If you crop too tightly, you can cut out the context you intended to document.
- Expecting every app to work: Even on the same iPhone, one app may offer Full Page while another doesn’t.
FAQs
Why don’t I see Full Page after taking a screenshot?
Most commonly, the current app or screen doesn’t support full-page capture, or you took the screenshot on a view that can’t be extended. Try another screen position or test the same content in Safari.
Can I take a scrolling screenshot in any app on iPhone?
No. Scrolling screenshots are app-dependent. Many browsers and document-like views support it, while custom or secure content often won’t.
Where do full-page scrolling screenshots get saved?
They save like normal screenshots. You’ll typically find them in the Photos app, or you can choose Save to Files via Share to store them in iCloud Drive.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Will the full-page screenshot include content that loads after I scroll?
Usually, yes—if the content is already loaded when the system renders the full page. If something loads lazily, scroll a bit to trigger loading, then take the screenshot.
Does full-page capture work for PDFs and documents?
Often it does, but it depends on how the PDF/document is displayed in the app. If you don’t see Full Page, try opening the document in another viewer (for example, Safari or a dedicated PDF viewer) and retry.
Bottom Line
To take a scrolling screenshot on iPhone, capture a normal screenshot and immediately tap the thumbnail to access Full Page or Extend. If the option doesn’t appear, the fix is usually iOS/app compatibility or page state—so update, restart, and test a nearby scroll position.
When built-in capture won’t extend, use multiple screenshots and stitching or switch the content to Safari for more consistent results.
