SwitchBot Lock Vision Pro works with Apple Home through Matter, but it does not support Apple Home Key. That means you can add it to Apple Home for basic lock control, but you cannot unlock it by tapping a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch as you would with a Home Key-enabled lock. If Home Key is essential to your routine, this is a poor fit; if you are comfortable using biometrics, a keypad, or the SwitchBot app, the missing feature may not be a deal-breaker.
What the Home Key omission means
SwitchBot’s support information says Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro do not currently support Apple Home Key. The company says it will consider feedback for future improvements, but it has not announced a release date or committed to adding the feature.

Home Key and Matter are separate capabilities. Matter lets Lock Vision Pro connect to Apple Home; it does not give the lock the credentials or tap-to-unlock behavior required for Apple Home Key. So, seeing the lock in Apple Home should not be taken as evidence that an iPhone or Apple Watch can unlock it with a tap.

What Apple Home can control
SwitchBot says Lock Vision Pro can be added to Apple Home through Matter, but third-party control applies to the interior assembly, not the exterior assembly. In his Apple Home setup, AppleInsider reviewer Wesley Hilliard reported that he could lock and unlock the door from Apple Home. He accessed the lock’s other features through the SwitchBot app.
#1 Best Overall
- 3D Face, Palm Vein, and Fingerprint for Every Family Member: Everyone unlocks their way. You walk up for face recognition after work. Your elderly parent waves a hand for palm vein — no tiny fingerprint needed. Your teenager taps a finger on the way to school. 3D structured light works in total darkness (20,000 IR dots, under 1 second). Palm vein reads from 3 to 10 inches, no contact. Fingerprint stores 90 prints, 0.3s recognition. All data AES-128 encrypted, stored locally on device.
- 12-Month DualPower Battery + Instant Auto-Lock: 10,000mAh battery lasts up to 12 months. CR123A backup: 500 emergency unlocks, 5-year standby, operates at -4°F. USB-C port accepts any power bank. Built-in geomagnetic and accelerometer sensor detects door closing and locks instantly — no countdown delay. Rushing out for work with kids and bags? Pull the door shut, it locks behind you. No turning back to check. Upgrade from your old deadbolt without changing your routine.
- WiFi Connected, No Hub, 7 Ways In: Connects directly to WiFi, no bridge needed. Manage access remotely, check who came home when, get notifications — all from the SwitchBot app. Set up PINs for your spouse, kids, parents, or a friend stopping by while you are at work. Geo-fencing unlocks via Bluetooth as you approach. NFC card (up to 100) for every family member. Seven methods: face, palm vein, fingerprint, NFC, PIN, app, and physical key. No monthly app subscription required.
- Matter over WiFi, Works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google, Home Assistant: CSA-certified Matter connects natively to all major platforms without proprietary bridges. Control from iPhone, Apple Watch, Siri, or any voice assistant. Lock all doors when you leave for work, or unlock and turn on lights when you arrive home. Pairs with SwitchBot Video Doorbell to see visitors and unlock remotely.
- 15-Minute DIY Install, BHMA Tested: Replace your existing deadbolt with a Phillips screwdriver. No drilling or locksmith needed. Fits most US doors: crossbore 38/54mm, thickness 35-55mm, backset 60/70mm. Use the included SwitchBot lock cylinder only; existing lock cylinders are not supported. IP65 rated and BHMA tested for security, durability, and finish.
That distinction matters if you want Apple Home to be the main place for managing access or adjusting lock features. The published integration supports a useful basic control path, but it is not equivalent to having every product feature inside Apple Home.
How Apple Home setup works
SwitchBot’s iOS instructions describe two ways to add the lock: retrieve its Matter setup code in the SwitchBot app and enter it in Apple Home, or scan the QR code on the bottom of the interior assembly. The company’s published prerequisites include an iPhone, a HomePod or Apple TV, current app and lock firmware, and a shared 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Its instructions also say a home hub compatible with iOS 18.4 or later is acceptable. App screens and requirements can change, so follow the current instructions shown by SwitchBot and Apple during setup.

- 3D Face, Palm Vein & Fingerprint Access: SwitchBot Lock Vision Pro gives family members multiple keyless options. 3D structured light uses 20,000 IR dots and works in total darkness in under 1 second; palm vein reads contact-free from 3 to 10 inches; fingerprint recognition takes 0.3 seconds and stores up to 90 prints. Data is AES-128 encrypted and stored locally.
- ntegrated Entry Control: The 4.3-inch indoor monitor lets you answer or end calls, view live and recorded images, use preset quick responses, and unlock with one button when paired with the included Lock Vision Pro. The lock offers seven entry methods: face, palm vein, fingerprint, NFC, PIN, app, and physical key.
- 2K Head-to-Toe Door View: The video doorbell combines 2K FHD resolution, a 165° ultra-wide angle, 16:9 head-to-toe view, and color night vision for clear coverage of visitors and packages, including in complete darkness. Two-way audio enables real-time conversations, while preset quick responses help when you cannot answer.
- Local Storage, No Monthly Fee: The doorbell includes a 4GB SD card for secure local storage with no subscription required and supports cards up to 512GB; optional cloud storage is available. Motion detection sends alerts when someone approaches. The 5,000mAh battery and indoor monitor's integrated WiFi repeater support a stable 2.4GHz connection.
- Reliable Power and Installation: Lock Vision Pro's 10,000mAh rechargeable battery lasts up to 12 months; CR123A backup supports 500 emergency unlocks and 5-year standby, with USB-C emergency power. The smart lock installs with a Phillips screwdriver on most US doors. The doorbell's indoor monitor requires a power cable; for best performance, keep it within 5m/one wall in apartments or 10m/one wall in standalone homes.
Ways to unlock it without Home Key
SwitchBot advertises a range of entry methods: 3D face recognition, palm vein recognition, fingerprint, keypad, NFC, geofence, app, voice control, widget, and physical key. These are manufacturer-described options; the best choices depend on your door, approach, household, and willingness to use the SwitchBot app or carry accessories.

A screen door obstructed the approach sensors in his setup, so face recognition rarely activated and he generally used fingerprint unlocking. That is a reported experience with one door configuration, not evidence that face recognition will fail on other installations. He did not set up NFC cards or fobs and did not use the physical key, so his review does not establish how those methods performed.

- True Hands-Free Unlocking with UWB Technology: Experience a new era of smart access — UWB (Ultra-Wideband) detects your incoming presence, direction, and intent to unlock automatically as you approach. It provides a faster, more convenient, and highly secure way to enter your home without touching the lock. Perfect when your hands are full, you're wearing gloves, or arriving in the rain. (Note: UWB unlocking requires a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub and is supported on Apple Watch Series 6 or later (excluding SE) running watchOS 11.5+ and iPhone 11 or later (excluding iPhone SE & iPhone 16e) running iOS 18.5+.)
- All-in-One Unlocking Options: Enjoy Apple home key tap-to-unlock (requires an Apple Thread-enabled Matter controller: HomePod 2nd Gen, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K 2021/2022), plus fingerprint, touchscreen passcode, voice assistant control, app remote access, NFC card support (card sold separately), and a physical key, giving you flexible, reliable ways to enter your home in any situation.
- Matter Over Thread for Multi-Ecosystem Compatibility: Built with Matter over Thread, the U400 can connect to multiple smart home platforms simultaneously, allowing you to enjoy the unique features of each ecosystem. Thread offers faster response, more stable connectivity, lower power consumption, and secure data transmission. Note: A Thread-enabled Matter controller from each ecosystem is required for its respective platform.
- Convenient Rechargeable Power System: Powered by a rechargeable and removable lithium battery that lasts up to 6 months per charge. Use the lock's USB-C port to recharge without taking the lock offline, or remove the battery and charge it separately. A low-battery voice alert will notify you when the battery drops below 20%, ensuring you never get caught off guard.
- Certified Security & Outdoor Durability: BHMA-certified for proven protection, mechanical strength, and long-term reliability. The IP65-rated exterior guards against dust and water for dependable outdoor performance. Plus, the rekeyable design allows you to change the physical key without replacing the entire lock cylinder.
Will it fit your door?
SwitchBot describes the lock as a standard deadbolt replacement and advertises a 15-minute DIY installation, but those are manufacturer claims rather than independent fit verification. AppleInsider’s review reported a door-thickness range of 1.4 to 2.2 inches and at least 1.8 inches of clearance from the knob. Treat those figures as review-reported requirements and confirm the current installation specifications against your own door before buying. Hilliard also noted that the unit is large enough to make measuring worthwhile.
Price and product claims to weigh
When the SwitchBot US listing was retrieved in 2026, it showed the base Lock Vision Pro at $229.99 and a lock-plus-video-doorbell variant at $329.99. Those are time-sensitive listing prices, not guaranteed current prices. The same listing advertised a 10,000mAh main battery with up to 12 months of battery life, IP65 protection, and a one-year warranty; these are manufacturer claims, not independently verified performance results.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want Matter-based Apple Home lock/unlock control and expect to use biometrics, the keypad, or the SwitchBot app for entry.
- Look elsewhere if tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch with Apple Home Key is a requirement. The current support statement is explicit that Lock Vision Pro lacks it.
- Check carefully before ordering if your door has a screen door, limited clearance, unusual deadbolt dimensions, or a layout that could obstruct the lock’s approach sensors.
There is not enough verified, current comparison information here to name a specific Home Key alternative as the best substitute. For any candidate, check Home Key support itself, the controls exposed in Apple Home, entry methods, door-fit requirements, and the current price rather than assuming that Apple Home or Matter compatibility includes Home Key.
