If Switchboard is receiving the feed, check the YouTube destination and the error shown in YouTube Live Control Room. These are separate stages, and the right fix depends on where the signal stops.
1. Check whether Switchboard is receiving video

Open the relevant workflow in Switchboard and compare its Stream URL and Stream Key with the server and key configured in your encoder. If needed, reveal the key in Switchboard to compare it accurately.

Start the encoder’s output and look at Switchboard’s Confidence Monitor. If it shows no source, Switchboard is not receiving video yet. Check the encoder is running and sending to the correct URL with the matching key.

Check the workflow status. A successful input test should change it from Not Receiving to Receiving. Switchboard’s guide notes that this test checks the connection between the encoder and Switchboard; it does not start the stream on a destination.

Once video is arriving, start the YouTube destination. If the destination’s Start control is inactive, Switchboard may not yet have detected incoming video.
After the encoder connects, the workflow’s stream-health display can show incoming bitrate and FPS. Use that information to distinguish an absent feed from a destination launch problem.

2. Check the encoder’s output and settings
Switchboard’s initial setup guide recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and 30 or 60 FPS. Compare your encoder’s output settings with that guidance and the requirements of your workflow. These are recommendations, not proof that a mismatch is the cause of every “Starting” delay.
YouTube advises using the latest version of your encoder. Check its status and error messages, CPU load, and output preview; if available, inspect a local recording to see whether the encoder is producing a usable signal. If the local output looks healthy, test outbound internet connectivity. YouTube advises contacting your internet service provider if that test identifies a connection problem.

3. Read the YouTube Live Control Room error
Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the Health Indicator and its timestamped error messages. YouTube describes red errors as critical: they may prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems. Yellow errors are moderate and may degrade quality. Use the displayed error to choose what to change instead of resetting settings at random.
If the encoder reports an error starting
For a third-party encoder, YouTube’s guidance is to get a new stream key in Live Control Room and update the encoder with it. If your streaming software signs in to YouTube without using a stream key, YouTube says to contact that software’s support team because it may need an update.

4. Check the title if YouTube schedules the stream
If the specific symptom is that YouTube schedules a stream instead of going live, Switchboard’s FAQ identifies a missing stream title in the active template as one possible cause. Stop the stream and update the YouTube title field in that template. This applies to the scheduling symptom; it is not a general fix for every stream stuck on “Starting.”

The sources do not identify one universal cause or a single encoder that fixes this symptom. The useful distinction is whether the feed is absent, arriving at Switchboard, or failing at the YouTube destination.
