Switchboard Live is the closer fit if you need a specifically listed 24/7 stream and already use an encoder: its pricing page lists 24/7 Streams for Enterprise. StreamYard is the better fit if you need a browser-based production studio with guests, branding, and multistreaming. Its paid plans have no streaming-time cap imposed by StreamYard itself, but that is not a dedicated 24/7 product or a promise of uninterrupted operation. Neither service’s published information establishes that a particular channel, network, or production setup will stay live without interruption.
Which service fits a continuous YouTube channel?
Choose based on how you make the broadcast, not just how long you hope it runs. Switchboard Live is an encoder-to-cloud relay and destination-management service. You send it a feed from an encoder, then manage and activate destinations. StreamYard is a browser-based studio for producing a broadcast, including guest and branding features.

- Choose Switchboard Live if you have an encoder-led workflow and need the explicitly listed 24/7 Streams feature. That listing is for Enterprise; do not assume it is included with every plan.
- Choose StreamYard if you want to produce the show in a browser and value studio tools and guest handling. Its paid plans have no StreamYard-imposed streaming-time cap, but destination rules still apply.
- Consider using both if you want to produce in StreamYard and route its output through Switchboard. Switchboard documents a StreamYard-to-Switchboard connection.

What YouTube eligibility and setup require
Before scheduling a continuous broadcast, verify that the YouTube channel can go live and that the account you connect has the necessary permissions. Google/YouTube Help says eligibility includes channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Initial live-stream activation can require lead time: YouTube says enabling a channel may take up to 24 hours, and Switchboard’s help documentation also says initial activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Confirm the channel is verified and live streaming is enabled well before the planned start.
- Check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Make sure the person connecting the channel has the required account access and permissions.
- Confirm the stream’s destination, duration rules, and plan limits with the relevant service and YouTube.
For a long-running channel, also plan how someone will notice a stopped or degraded stream, who can respond, and how the broadcast will be restarted. A service’s time-limit policy alone does not establish monitoring or recovery for your particular setup.

How to decide: encoder relay or browser studio?
Pick Switchboard Live for an encoder-led 24/7 workflow
Switchboard’s clearest advantage for this use case is its Enterprise listing for 24/7 Streams. It is a fit when you already have, or intend to use, a separate encoder and want a cloud relay to manage destinations. Its documentation describes RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT inputs; the pricing page lists up to 3 RTMP or SRT inputs for Enterprise. Check the current plan and contract directly, including archive arrangements and support expectations.

StreamYard is more directly suited to producing a show in a browser, particularly if you need guests, branding, or multistreaming. Its paid plans’ lack of a StreamYard-imposed streaming-time cap should not be read as permission from every destination to stream indefinitely, nor as a guarantee that the broadcast cannot be interrupted.

Use both when production and destination management are separate needs
Switchboard documents how to connect StreamYard output to Switchboard. That can make sense if you want StreamYard’s studio workflow while using Switchboard for destination management. Confirm the current connection steps, account eligibility, and terms with both services before relying on a combined setup.
What neither comparison alone answers
A long-duration policy is only one part of continuity. Neither vendor documentation reviewed for this comparison proves uptime, end-to-end recovery, or behavior under a failure in your encoder, internet connection, account permissions, or YouTube destination. Treat continuity as an operational plan as well as a plan-selection decision.

- Identify the encoder, browser session, or other component that originates the feed and what happens if it stops.
- Decide how the stream will be monitored and who will respond to an alert.
- Ask each vendor what restart or recovery behavior is included for your plan and what remains your responsibility.
- Test your actual channel and workflow before depending on it for a scheduled continuous broadcast.
