Susan Bradley’s October 2, 2026, AskWoody post points readers to a conversation with Amy Babinchak about how AI is changing vulnerability management and patching for managed service providers (MSPs). The episode’s published synopsis frames the central question as operational: how should MSPs respond to more vulnerabilities and updates without deploying them carelessly? The available descriptions establish the topic, but not a verified transcript or detailed spoken claims.
What is the Amy Babinchak patching discussion?
Bradley describes the conversation as being about “how AI Is transforming vulnerability management and patching for MSPs.” Her AskWoody post links to a video or podcast and also points readers to Babinchak’s separate discussion of patching “everything else” on Third Tier. The announcement does not specify the video platform, episode length, or a transcript of the interview. AskWoody’s announcement, October 2, 2026
The SMB Community Podcast episode page, posted October 1, 2026, is titled “How AI Is Transforming Vulnerability Management and Patching for MSPs.” Its synopsis says the discussion covers patching cadence and risk, Microsoft update counts, deployment delays, and difficulties with non-Windows devices. Those are the publisher’s summary points; they should not be treated as verified quotations or a complete account of the audio. SMB Community Podcast episode page
What should MSPs do differently as AI surfaces more patches?
The practical issue is not simply whether to patch faster. More discoveries can increase pressure to act, but each update still has to be assessed against exposure, device role, compatibility, deployment timing, and the consequences of failure. A blanket schedule may leave urgent risk exposed, while indiscriminate rapid deployment can create service problems.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In a related Petri article published September 14, 2026, Babinchak argues that the traditional scheduled patch window is becoming less defensible as a default. Her recommendations include setting policy around risk, documenting exceptions, inventorying devices outside standard endpoint management, tracking support and firmware status, segmenting devices that cannot be patched, and planning replacement for unsupported equipment. These recommendations come from that article; the available interview description does not establish that each was covered in the conversation. Petri: Babinchak on patching connected devices
The podcast synopsis reports a change from 200 patches in June to 900 in September. It does not clearly define what was counted or identify the underlying dataset, so those figures are best treated as numbers reported by the episode synopsis—not as an independently verified Microsoft statistic. Why does patching extend beyond Windows PCs?
MSP environments include connected devices whose update mechanisms may not fit ordinary endpoint-management workflows. Some devices have fragmented update paths; others depend on a vendor for firmware or support. An inventory that covers only conventional Windows endpoints can therefore miss assets that still affect a customer’s exposure.
Babinchak’s Petri guidance emphasizes identifying those devices and tracking whether they remain supported and receive firmware updates. The operational implication is to make device ownership, update method, support status, and network exposure visible—not to assume that every connected device can be patched like a managed PC. What if a connected device cannot be patched?
Babinchak’s separate Third Tier article sets out four possible outcomes for IoT and other connected devices. The appropriate choice depends on whether a supported update exists, how exposed the device is, and whether its business role justifies keeping it in service. Third Tier: connected-device remediation options
- Patch: Apply a supported update when the vendor provides a viable update path.
- Segment: Restrict network access when the device cannot be updated or its exposure needs to be constrained.
- Replace: Plan to remove devices that are unsupported or present too much risk to keep.
- Document and accept the risk: Treat continued use as a business decision, record the controls and rationale, and set a review date.
Accepting risk is not the same as overlooking the device: it makes the decision explicit and reviewable. Likewise, segmentation reduces exposure but does not make an unsupported device equivalent to a patched one.

How should an MSP assess patch-management approaches?
The cited material does not compare named patch-management products or endorse a vendor. For an internal tool or process assessment, useful criteria are the range of devices it can identify and manage, policy and automation controls, support for non-Windows and IoT assets, exception handling, reporting, and safeguards for deployment risk. A strong fit for Windows endpoints alone may still leave gaps in a customer environment with vendor-managed or unsupported devices.
AskWoody’s post and the podcast synopsis establish a conversation about AI, vulnerability management, and MSP patching; Babinchak’s related articles provide practical context for policy and connected-device decisions. They do not establish a particular product recommendation or a complete transcript of what the interview covered.
