The work-in-progress supports Windows 10 and newer, needs at least 8 GB of RAM, and includes no Nintendo code or game assets. You must provide your own copy of the Wii game.
What was released
Creator keepvaibin published the project as a beta Windows executable. Reporting describes it as an independent effort with no Nintendo authorization or endorsement. The project was built with assistance from Anthropic’s Claude; the creator reviewed and tested the generated output personally.

Because the release is still labeled a work in progress, it should not be treated as a finished replacement for an official PC edition. No official Nintendo PC version has been announced in the available coverage.

Minimum stated requirements
- Operating system: Windows 10 or newer.
- Memory: at least 8 GB of RAM.
- Game data: your own copy of Super Mario Galaxy; the port does not include Nintendo assets.
The published test result
The reported test system used an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H with integrated graphics and 16 GB of RAM. On that machine, the port reportedly reached 60 frames per second at 1440p. That is a source-reported result rather than an independent benchmark, so it should be read as an example of performance on one configuration, not a guarantee for every PC.

- A free update will be available for the Nintendo Switch 2! Enjoy the game at 4K resolution in TV mode or 1080p in Handheld and Tabletop mode.* *4K resolution and 120 fps are available in supported games and require a compatible display. Frame rates capped at 60 fps for 4K output.
The report specifically warns that Gateway Galaxy can fall below 60 FPS on slower processors. Heavy background CPU activity can also cause audio to skip. Closing demanding applications before playing is therefore a practical first troubleshooting step, but it cannot eliminate performance limits on weaker hardware.
Graphics, display and controls
The beta is designed for modern PC displays rather than a fixed Wii output. Reported display and rendering options include:
- Aspect ratios from 4:3 through ultrawide 32:9.
- Anti-aliasing.
- Anisotropic filtering.
- AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 upscaling.
- Per-pixel lighting.
Input support includes mouse and keyboard, Xbox controllers, Nintendo Switch Pro controllers and Switch 2 Pro controllers. That gives players conventional PC controls and current gamepads without requiring the motion hardware used by the original Wii release.
Known visual and technical caveats
Frame-rate and audio behavior
Gateway Galaxy is the clearest reported performance trouble spot: slower CPUs may not hold 60 FPS. Audio may skip when the processor is heavily loaded by other software. These are documented limitations of the beta, not evidence that every scene or system behaves identically.

- Savings based on manufacturer’s suggested retail price when purchasing games separately. Actual savings may vary.
Lighting differences
Lighting and bloom in the Comet Observatory can differ from the original game. Players looking for a pixel-perfect visual recreation should expect inconsistencies while development continues.
What “without Nintendo’s blessing” means
The available reports call the port unofficial and state that it contains no Nintendo code or assets. They do not document Nintendo approval, licensing or endorsement. The distribution model instead requires users to supply their own game copy, keeping the downloadable project separate from the copyrighted game data.
How it compares with playing the Wii version through Dolphin
For people who want to play Super Mario Galaxy on a PC today, there are two materially different approaches. The native port is a modern Windows program; Dolphin is an established emulator for a user-dumped Wii copy.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Option | What it offers | Important trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Unofficial native Windows port | Windows executable; 4:3 to 32:9 displays; anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, FSR 1 and per-pixel lighting; mouse, keyboard and modern controller support. | Beta status; Gateway Galaxy frame-rate dips on slower CPUs; audio skips under heavy CPU load; Comet Observatory lighting and bloom differences. |
| Dolphin emulation | Established emulation route for a user-dumped Wii copy; supports a real Wii Remote or a mouse-mapped pointer for motion input. | Requires the user’s own Wii game dump and Wii-style motion setup if mouse control is not used. |
A native executable is the more PC-like experience, especially for ultrawide monitors and ordinary gamepads. Dolphin is the more established path and preserves the original motion-control model, but it remains emulation rather than a native port.

Related projects are not the same release
Petari and AstroCore
The SMGCommunity Petari repository describes itself as a Super Mario Galaxy decompilation project and explicitly says it is not intended to become a PC-port effort. It points readers toward separate work such as AstroCore, so Petari should not be presented as the Windows beta itself.
MacioGalaxy
MacioGalaxy is a separate unofficial native port for Apple-Silicon macOS built from Petari. Its repository says it includes no game data, requires a disc dump made from the user’s own copy and is not affiliated with Nintendo. Its existence does not establish that the Windows beta supports macOS or that the projects share a release schedule.
Why the release matters
Super Mario Galaxy debuted on Nintendo Wii in 2007 and went on to sell 12.8 million copies over its lifetime, according to a 2026 TechSpot report citing Nintendo’s figure. The size and longevity of that audience help explain the interest in native PC projects, particularly when no official PC edition is available.
For now, the practical choice is between testing an early native beta with modern display and input options or using Dolphin with a legally obtained, user-dumped Wii copy. Neither option represents Nintendo’s blessing, and the Windows project’s documented glitches make its unfinished status an important part of the decision.
