Hashi’s described Bitcoin-collateral system is on Sui devnet, not an established mainnet borrowing option. Wrapped Bitcoin such as WBTC is a token representation whose BTC backing is held in custody and whose Sui transfers use cross-chain infrastructure. Which is appropriate depends on whether you want to hold BTC exposure, move BTC onto Sui, lend it, or borrow against it—and on the specific asset and live protocol market involved.
What “Bitcoin collateral” and “wrapped Bitcoin” mean on Sui
These terms describe different ways to make Bitcoin-related value usable in Sui applications. They are not interchangeable labels for one asset or one risk profile.

Hashi’s native-BTC collateral design
Hashi says BTC stays on the Bitcoin network while Sui validators monitor deposits. A user sends BTC to a generated address; after Bitcoin confirmations and validator quorum, an equivalent representation is minted on Sui for use in smart contracts. Hashi describes a personalized 2-of-2 multisig deposit address, threshold Schnorr signatures, a guardian check, price oracles, and automated collateral and liquidation logic. Its current Sui page says Hashi is available on devnet. These are Hashi’s product descriptions, not an independent security audit or evidence of a mainnet borrowing market. WBTC on Sui
WBTC is a token representation, not BTC held natively on Sui. Sui says each WBTC is backed 1:1 by BTC held in BitGo custody, and that its Sui OFT representation uses LayerZero connectivity for supported cross-chain transfers. Users therefore depend on the relevant custody, token-contract, and cross-chain arrangements, in addition to the Sui application they use. Sui’s December 2025 article named AlphaLend, Bucket Protocol, NAVI, and SuiLend as supporting or rolling out collateral-market support; that announcement is not a guarantee that a live market currently accepts a particular WBTC token type. (Sui, “BitGo Brings WBTC Natively To Sui Through LayerZero,” December 5, 2025.)

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
Other Bitcoin-related tokens
Sui’s ecosystem listing includes FBTC, LBTC, mBTC, stBTC, tBTC, WBTC, xBTC, and yBTC. The listing describes LBTC as liquid-staked Bitcoin, tBTC as a 1:1 BTC-backed token using a decentralized 51-of-100 threshold-signer model, and xBTC as an OKX-issued token with a 1:1 reserve mechanism. These descriptions do not establish that every listed asset has equivalent custody, redemption, risk, or collateral-market availability. How the main designs differ
| Question | Hashi design | BitGo WBTC on Sui | Other listed BTC assets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where is the BTC backing? | Hashi says BTC remains on Bitcoin. (Hashi page) | BitGo custody, according to Sui’s December 2025 article. | Depends on the asset; the cited ecosystem listing describes differing models, including liquid staking, threshold signers, and an issuer reserve mechanism. (Sui ecosystem listing) |
| What makes a representation usable on Sui? | Hashi describes validators monitoring deposits and minting an equivalent representation after confirmations and quorum. (Hashi page) | An OFT representation with LayerZero connectivity for supported cross-chain transfers. (Sui, December 5, 2025) | Depends on the particular token design; the listing does not provide a comparable mechanism for every token. (Sui ecosystem listing) |
| What availability is established by the cited material? | Devnet, per Hashi’s current page; not an established mainnet borrowing option. | Sui announced collateral-market support or rollout at named venues, but current acceptance of an exact token type is not established by that announcement. (Sui, December 5, 2025) | Listing in the ecosystem directory does not establish a live lending market. (Sui ecosystem listing) |
| What market parameters are established? | Not stated in Hashi’s current page as a complete current mainnet lending parameter sheet. | Not stated in Sui’s December 2025 article as a complete current parameter sheet. | Not stated in the ecosystem listing as a complete current parameter sheet. |
What to check before using a BTC asset on Sui
Compare the complete route from your BTC to the Sui position and back—not just the token name. Different components can fail independently, and a listed asset is not proof of a usable or attractive collateral market.

- Control of the underlying BTC: Determine whether BTC remains on Bitcoin, is held by a custodian, or is controlled through a signer or bridge arrangement. Identify who can authorize movement and under what conditions.
- Cross-chain and contract dependencies: Identify the bridge or messaging layer, token contract, validator or threshold-signer model, and Sui lending contract. Hashi’s own page names Sui validators and the loan smart contract among its trust assumptions.
- Redemption and exit: Read the exact withdrawal route, confirmation requirements, fees, supported asset version, and any dependence on custodians, signers, or protocol operations. Hashi describes withdrawal of native BTC after repayment; WBTC migration uses a cross-chain route.
- Collateral terms for the exact token: In the actual protocol app and its documentation, confirm the accepted token type, loan-to-value ratio, liquidation threshold, oracle, borrow rate, supply and borrow caps, and available liquidity. Ecosystem articles do not supply a complete, current parameter sheet.
- Yield-bearing behavior: For liquid-staked assets such as LBTC or staking-related stBTC, understand how rewards and exchange-rate changes affect valuation and liquidation exposure. They are not necessarily equivalent to a simple BTC representation.
- Your use case: Holding a representation, lending it, adding it to a liquidity pool, and borrowing against it create different exposures. Borrowing adds liquidation risk; liquidity-pool positions add pool and price-divergence exposure; leverage magnifies losses.
Choose based on what you want to do
- To hold BTC exposure on Sui: First decide which representation’s custody, signer, bridge, or staking design you are willing to rely on. Check its redemption route before acquiring it.
- To lend or borrow: Verify that the exact asset identifier is currently accepted by the specific Sui protocol, then review its live parameters and liquidity. Do not infer acceptance from an ecosystem listing or an announcement that support is rolling out.
- To move BTC between Bitcoin and Sui: Follow the current documented route for the specific asset. Confirm the token version, fees, expected confirmations, and how you can exit before sending funds.
- To seek yield: Establish whether returns come from lending, liquidity provision, or staking-related mechanics, and account for the additional contract, price, and liquidation risks that strategy introduces.
Sui’s ecosystem articles are useful places to discover assets and venues, not substitutes for checking the live app and protocol documentation. Parameters and integrations can change; verify the exact token and market at the time you use them.
