Substack supports scheduled Notes on web, iOS, and Android. Learn the steps, what scheduling changes, and when Buffer’s cross-channel workflow may help.

Yes—Substack lets you schedule Notes from its web composer and its iOS and Android apps. Use the built-in scheduler for publishing a Note at a chosen time; consider Buffer only if you also want to coordinate Notes with posts on other social channels or review cross-channel insights.

How to schedule a Substack Note

Substack’s scheduler works on web, iOS, and Android. The selected publishing time is shown in your local timezone, according to Substack’s March 23, 2026 announcement. Scheduled Notes are saved in Drafts, where you can review and edit them before they publish.

On the web

  1. Open Substack and select Create → Note.
  2. In the Note composer, select the calendar icon.
  3. Choose the date and time, then save your selection.
  4. Select Schedule to confirm.

On iOS or Android

  1. Open the Notes composer in the Substack app.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu and choose Schedule.
  3. Choose a date and time, then save.
  4. Tap Schedule to finish.

To make a change before publication, find the scheduled Note in Drafts and edit it. Substack’s reviewed documentation describes scheduling individual Notes; it does not establish a recurring queue, bulk scheduling, or a shared calendar across social platforms. Substack’s Notes help page, updated April 20, 2026, covers the feature and Note management.

What scheduling a Note does—and does not do

A Note is a short-form post that can share ideas, posts, links, images, quotes, or comments with subscribers and the broader Substack network. Notes can appear in the Home feed, on the web, in the app, and on a creator’s profile. Scheduling controls when the Note publishes; it does not turn the Note into a newsletter issue.

Unlike a newsletter issue, a Note does not send subscribers an email for every new post. Substack says readers may still be notified about Notes they missed through roundup digests or push notifications. If your goal is to deliver a message by email, schedule a newsletter issue instead.

Substack scheduling or Buffer?

Native scheduling is enough when you are preparing Notes for Substack alone. Buffer is an optional alternative for creators who want Notes in the same workflow as other social channels. Buffer announced Substack Notes support on September 23, 2026, and its current support page lists the integration on its Free plan as well as current plans. Confirm the plan and capabilities directly before relying on them, as vendor features can change.

Measurement Per-Note stats can include revenue generated, new paid and free subscribers, new followers, clicks, and shares. Buffer offers Insights for the integration; the support page lists engagement as unavailable.
Supported actions Compose and schedule Notes in Substack. Publish top-level Notes, but not replies, restacks, long-form Substack posts, or newsletter issues. Rich-text formatting is unsupported; mentions appear as plain text rather than linked accounts; a Note can use one attachment type at a time.
Plan access Native scheduling is part of Substack’s Notes workflow. Buffer’s September 23, 2026 launch announcement says the feature is available on its Free plan; its support page lists Substack on current plans including Free.

Buffer lets you edit a scheduled Note before it goes live. After publication, you cannot edit it through Buffer, so review the wording, attachment, and links ahead of time. Buffer’s announcement describes the integration’s cross-channel scheduling and insights: Buffer’s Substack Notes launch post. Its support documentation explains feature limits and plan availability: Buffer’s Substack support page.

How to review a Note’s results

Use Substack’s per-Note stats to inspect activity such as clicks, shares, follows, subscriber changes, and revenue generated. If you schedule through Buffer, its Insights can help you review performance across connected channels. These are separate measurement views; the available documentation does not establish that metrics appear instantly or match exactly between services.

Neither Substack’s feature documentation nor Buffer’s launch materials establish a posting frequency that guarantees growth or a measured growth increase from scheduling. Treat the scheduler as a planning tool, then use the available stats to decide what to publish next.
