These symptoms have different causes: jagged, pixelated edges may be a display or zoom issue, while a line that changes shape across apps may need device-level troubleshooting.
1. Check whether the problem is limited to one app
Draw a few strokes in a second writing or drawing app. If the fault appears only in one app, check its canvas zoom or display size, brush smoothing, and input settings before changing device settings.

2. Inspect the stylus tip and screen
Check that the tip is seated, clean, and not visibly worn. Clean the screen according to the device maker’s instructions. A worn tip can distort strokes, but replacement tips are not universal: confirm the exact pen model before buying a compatible replacement nib.

Huawei says a worn stylus tip or tip cover may affect lines and recommends replacing a worn tip. HP also notes that a tip’s contact area may be too small for some screens to detect reliably. 3. Test screen protectors and cases
If the manufacturer’s guidance permits it, compare the pen’s behavior with the screen protector removed. Also test without a case, particularly one with magnetic closures or clasps. Make one change at a time so you can tell whether an accessory affects the result.

Samsung warns that protectors can cause inconsistent S Pen motion or pressure and that magnetic case closures can interfere with S Pen recognition. Huawei also notes that protective film may affect line straightness on specified MatePad devices. These are model-family cautions, not evidence that every protector or case causes problems. 4. Look for palm-input interference
If stray marks appear when your hand touches the screen, or strokes break as your palm lands, try drawing with your palm lifted. You can also test a pen-only or palm-rejection setting if your device supports one.

On Windows, built-in palm rejection works most effectively when the digitizer detects the pen in range before the palm arrives. Wacom gives a separate, product-specific instruction for the Cintiq 27QHD touch display: bring the hand and pen tip to the screen at nearly the same time. 5. Update or calibrate only as your model’s maker directs
Check the manufacturer’s support page for updates to the device, stylus, firmware, or driver. Calibration procedures differ by device; use one only when the maker documents it for your model and the symptom matches the procedure.

For example, Huawei’s calibration instructions apply to a listed set of MatePad models, not every tablet. For those supported devices, the instructions say to update the tablet first, unplug it during calibration, keep the calibration area at least 2 cm from the screen edge, hold the stylus perpendicular, avoid touching the tablet, and draw clockwise circles for at least three seconds. 6. Escalate persistent distortion across apps
If the problem remains in multiple apps after the basic checks, retest with a stylus confirmed to work with your device. Remove optional accessories only where the manufacturer recommends doing so. Note whether the same screen area or stroke pattern is affected.
When contacting the device maker, provide the tablet and pen models, operating system and driver versions, affected app, and checks already performed. Persistent distortion may need service, but it does not by itself prove that the digitizer has failed.
