A home reformer saves money only when the studio spending it replaces is larger than the machine’s fully loaded cost, spread over the months you will actually keep training at home. Whether that happens depends on three numbers: what you pay per class now, how many classes you would otherwise keep buying, and what the machine, delivery, and setup really cost you. The worksheet below lets you run those numbers with your own local prices. Listed studio prices in this article were current as of October 7, 2026, and they vary by location, so treat them as examples rather than averages.
What studio reformer classes cost right now
Studio pricing is set by each business and by its location, so there is no single national rate. Two published price pages show how much the structure can differ. Reforming Pilates lists reformer pricing across several Florida and New York locations, with the figures below taken from its reformer-only section. Function Pilates lists Phoenix-area prices. Both are accessed on October 7, 2026, and both have location-specific sections, so confirm the exact location and offer before you commit.

| Option | Reforming Pilates (reformer-only section, pre-tax) | Function Pilates (Phoenix-area page) |
|---|---|---|
| Single or drop-in class | $50 | $40 |
| Four classes per month | $145 (recurring plan, three-month commitment) | $119 membership |
| Eight classes per month | $259 (recurring plan, three-month commitment) | $189 membership |
| Twelve classes per month | $389 (recurring plan, three-month commitment) | $219 membership |
| Unlimited | $499 limited unlimited plan (one class per day), three-month commitment | $249 unlimited membership |
| Packs | $420 for ten classes; $900 for thirty classes | $185 for five; $350 for ten; $600 for twenty |
| Effective price per class on the eight-class option (computed from the listed prices) | About $32.38 | About $23.63 |
| Terms stated on the page | Credits do not roll over; prices are before tax | A 50% first-month discount is advertised for monthly membership signups; the page presents it as a promotion that may change |
Two details matter for the math. First, recurring plans that bill whether or not you attend are a fixed cost, so an unused credit is money you still spent. Second, a listed price before tax understates what you pay. Add your local sales tax wherever a studio quotes pre-tax prices.

What a home reformer costs, fully loaded
Pilates Protocols published a cost article on July 14, 2026 that estimates home reformer prices in three tiers. Those tiers are the article’s own estimates, not an audited market survey, and they are useful for ranges rather than exact purchase prices. The article also models a break-even window for each tier against a twice-weekly studio habit, and it describes studio membership as including instruction, programming, form correction, and a booked appointment that a machine does not provide.

| Tier | Estimated machine price (article) | Article’s break-even window against a twice-weekly studio habit | What the tier estimate does not include |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | $300–$800 | 2–4 months | Delivery, tax, setup, and any accessories are not included in the estimate |
| Mid-range | $1,500–$2,500 | 6–12 months | Delivery, tax, and setup are not included in the estimate |
| Studio-grade | $2,500–$5,500 | 10–24 months | Delivery, tax, and setup are not included in the estimate |
The break-even windows are scenario outputs built on the article’s assumptions. They are not a payoff guarantee, and your own attendance will move them considerably.
A worked example of a full-size machine: Balanced Body Studio Reformer
Balanced Body’s Studio Reformer shows what a full-size frame involves in practice. The manufacturer’s Studio Reformer product page does not list a price in the content we could confirm, and it does not establish that this model is typical of home purchases. Its listed specifications still make a useful checklist:

- Dimensions: 92.62 inches long, 26.5 inches wide, 15 inches high. The listed footprint is the machine itself, so add room to step on and off and to move around it.
- Weight: 152 lb. A frame that heavy is hard to move alone, so plan for two people or a delivery service that carries it into the room.
- Assembly: it arrives partially assembled, and the listed assembly includes attaching springs, shoulder rests, and risers.
- Frame heights: the page describes 14-inch, 18-inch, and 24-inch frame heights, with different intended accessibility and use considerations for each. Check which height fits your body and floor before ordering.
- Warranty: the frame carries a limited lifetime warranty, as stated by the manufacturer. Check what the warranty covers for springs, upholstery, and other parts.
The product page also makes two claims you should weigh as marketing. It says, “The Studio Reformer is the number one choice of Pilates professionals for studio use.” That is the manufacturer’s own claim, not an independent comparison. It also says, “All equipment includes access to the free videos section on our streaming video platform.” That describes Balanced Body’s offer. It does not tell you what video access, if any, comes with a different brand.

- Current studio spend per month. If you pay per class, multiply the price per attended class by the classes you attend in a typical month. If you hold a plan, use the plan price, and add any cost of sessions you pay for but miss, since unused credits do not roll over at Reforming Pilates.
- Fully loaded home cost. Add the machine price, delivery, sales tax, assembly or setup, any accessories or maintenance you expect to buy, and any paid instruction or video service you plan to use.
- Monthly studio cost avoided. Subtract from step 1 whatever studio spending you will keep, such as a single drop-in you still plan to take each month. Only the avoided portion counts.
- Net monthly savings. Subtract any continuing home cost, such as a monthly video subscription, from the monthly studio cost avoided.
- Break-even months. Divide the fully loaded home cost by the net monthly savings from step 4.
- Net savings after N months. Multiply the net monthly savings by N, then subtract the fully loaded home cost. This gives the amount you keep at that point, or the amount you are still behind if the result is negative.
Worked examples with labelled assumptions
The figures below use the listed prices above and labelled assumptions, so you can see how the result moves. Assumption for every row: the machine is bought once, with no resale value counted. Scenario A assumes a mid-range machine at $2,000 plus an assumed $150 for delivery, tax, and setup, for a fully loaded cost of $2,150. Scenario C assumes a budget machine at $500 plus an assumed $100 for delivery and setup, for $600. Scenario B assumes the reader keeps one $50 drop-in per month and pays an assumed $20 per month for a video service. These are not quoted prices.
| Scenario | Studio spend avoided each month | Continuing home cost each month | Fully loaded home cost | Break-even | Net savings after 24 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A. Eight classes at $259, all stopped | $259 | $0 (assumed) | $2,150 | About 8.3 months | $4,066 |
| B. Eight classes at $259, one $50 drop-in kept, $20 video cost | $209 | $20 | $2,150 | About 11.4 months (on $189 net per month) | $2,386 |
| C. Eight classes at $259, all stopped, budget machine | $259 | $0 (assumed) | $600 | About 2.3 months | $5,616 |
| D. Four classes at $145, all stopped, mid-range machine | $145 | $0 (assumed) | $2,150 | About 14.8 months | $1,330 |
Scenario D shows how much attendance matters. The same mid-range machine that pays back in about 8 months at eight classes a month takes about 15 months at four. Scenario C shows that a low-cost machine changes the result dramatically, but the table cannot tell you whether a budget machine will last or feel right under your body. Those are questions for a shop demonstration and the warranty terms.

Where the savings disappear
- You keep paying the studio. The machine saves money only on classes you stop buying. If you keep the eight-class plan and add the machine, you pay both.
- The machine goes unused. A purchase that replaces three weekly classes but gets used once a month does not replace that spending. Track your actual sessions for two months before you buy.
- Commitments run past your decision. The recurring Reforming Pilates plans require a three-month commitment. Check how cancellation works before you assume the studio cost stops on the day you buy.
- Taxes and delivery are left out. Reforming Pilates lists prices before tax, and a 152-pound frame may need paid delivery and assembly help.
- Instruction is not included. A machine does not correct your form, programme your sessions, or hold a slot on your calendar. If you rely on those, a home machine adds a cost in the form of time and possibly paid coaching.
What the two options actually buy
The price of a class and the price of a machine buy different things. Compare the two on the same terms before you decide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Comparison point | Studio classes | Home reformer |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly outlay | Per-class or recurring plan price, set by the business | No per-class fee once bought, but video or coaching services may add cost |
| Upfront cost | Usually none beyond the first class or pack | Machine, tax, delivery, and setup; the Balanced Body example is partially assembled |
| Live instruction and form feedback | Included in the class | Not included; depends on video or a paid coach |
| Booked slot and accountability | Built in through a booked class | Depends on your own schedule |
| Space and logistics | None at home | Full-size frame needs floor space, a way to move it, and a place for it |
| Commitment and cancellation | Set by each business; the Reforming Pilates recurring plans require three months | Set by the seller and manufacturer; the Balanced Body frame has a limited lifetime warranty |
| Resale | Not applicable | Not stated in the sources; the worksheet assumes zero resale |
Is a home reformer likely to save you money?
A home reformer is more likely to lower your total spend when most of the following are true:
Best Value

- You already attend several classes a month and expect to keep that pace for at least a year.
- Your studio plan is the main cost you would stop, not a drop-in you would keep.
- You have room for the machine, a way to move it, and clear floor space around it.
- You can follow a session without someone correcting your form, or you have a budget for paid video or coaching.
- Your machine price and delivery costs fall within a figure that still gives a break-even inside the period you plan to stay with it.
If several of those are false, keeping the studio, or buying fewer classes rather than a machine, is probably the cheaper choice.
