If Street Fighter 6 runs poorly after an NVIDIA driver update, first enable the game’s shader compilation or shader warming option and let it finish, then test Shader Quality at Low. These are reversible checks, not confirmed fixes for every PC. Reports about newer drivers conflict, and NVIDIA has not documented a universal Street Fighter 6 shader-quality regression.
What is known about the problem
Players have reported performance losses after updating NVIDIA drivers, but the available reports do not establish a problem affecting all systems or prove that newer drivers reduce image quality. In a 2024 Steam troubleshooting thread, user Gohão said the game ran at “half its normal performance” after updating, then reported that setting Shader Quality to Low resolved the issue on their system. Driver rollback reports do not point to one best version: a Reddit user said downgrading from 551.23 to 546.65 resolved low FPS, while a later update from that user said driver 566.36 worked after shader warming was re-enabled. These results may depend on the PC, game settings, and cache state. NVIDIA’s 546.33 WHQL release page identifies it as a Windows 10/11 Game Ready Driver dated December 12, 2023; it does not document a Street Fighter 6 shader-quality regression or a fix for one.

Separate a visual-quality change from a performance symptom. Low FPS means the game is rendering fewer frames; stutter is uneven frame delivery; slow-motion gameplay is a distinct symptom worth recording rather than assuming it is shader compilation. A perceived change in image quality is different again. Shader compilation can cause stutter while the game rebuilds shaders, but that does not establish that the rendered image quality changed.

Before changing settings, note your GPU model, Windows version, NVIDIA driver version, Street Fighter 6 build, display resolution, and the exact symptom. Record the current Shader Quality setting and whether shader warming is enabled. Changing one item at a time makes it possible to tell which step helped.
Try shader warming, then test Shader Quality
- Enable shader compilation or shader warming at startup. Find the shader-related option in Street Fighter 6’s graphics settings, enable it, restart the game, and allow the startup process to complete. The exact label can vary by game build. After a driver change, shaders may need to be compiled again; test performance after that process rather than judging only the first launch.
- Test Shader Quality at Low. In the game’s graphics settings, change Shader Quality to Low and compare the same scene or mode with your previous setting. If performance improves, you have a system-specific workaround to weigh against the visual trade-off—not proof of a universal driver bug. Restore the previous setting if it does not help.
- Repeat the test consistently. Keep resolution and other graphics settings unchanged, and compare FPS or frame pacing before and after. Avoid making several changes at once; otherwise, the cause of any improvement will be unclear.
Verify game files and rebuild cautiously
If shader warming does not help, verify Street Fighter 6’s installed files through the game launcher. If you need a cache rebuild, remove only cache data that the game or launcher documents for that purpose. Cache locations are not established here, so do not delete folders based on an unverified path: removing unrelated files can create new problems, and a driver update may already have caused the game to rebuild or relocate cached shaders.

When to reinstall or roll back the driver
If the symptom began immediately after a driver update and persists after shader compilation and settings tests, consider a documented clean driver installation or a rollback to a driver you previously used successfully. Versions 546.33 and 546.65 appear in individual reports, but neither is established as the right choice for every system. Before rolling back, obtain the installer for the version you intend to test and keep a recovery plan so you can reinstall your current driver if performance worsens.

Change only the driver between comparisons, then allow shader warming to finish again before judging the result. A first-launch stutter after a driver change can reflect shader compilation; it is not, by itself, evidence that the rollback failed or that image quality changed.

How to judge the result
Keep a short before-and-after record: driver version, game build, GPU, resolution, shader-warming state, Shader Quality setting, and observed FPS or frame pacing. No controlled benchmark, measured image-quality difference, or prevalence rate is established for drivers newer than 546.33. Your own repeatable comparison is therefore more useful than treating one player’s workaround as a universal fix.
