If a scheduled prerecorded stream has no sound, start with the exact video file you uploaded—not the live microphone. Play that file locally and confirm its intended audio track is present, audible, and not muted. Then check the file encoding, test the StreamYard-to-YouTube path privately, and troubleshoot live audio capture only if the problem involves a microphone or guest.
1. Check the source video before changing StreamYard settings
Play the same video file selected for the scheduled stream on your device. Listen for the intended audio throughout the file, and check that the correct track is enabled and not muted. If the file is silent, StreamYard’s studio microphone controls cannot add sound to it after recording. Correct the original edit or export a new file, then verify that replacement locally before scheduling it.

2. Re-encode a file that may be incompatible
If the source has sound locally but the scheduled stream does not, try making a compatible copy in HandBrake, the re-encoding tool named in StreamYard’s help guide. The guide recommends these output settings:

StreamYard’s guide states a maximum supported prerecorded-video bitrate of 10 MB/s, also expressed there as 10,000 kbps, and recommends reducing files above that threshold before upload. This is product guidance; it does not establish that bitrate caused a particular silent stream. Keep AAC (the audio codec) distinct from H.264 (x264), which is the video encoder. After encoding, play the new file locally and confirm that the audio is still audible before replacing or rescheduling the video. StreamYard also notes that prerecorded videos use prior studio settings for resolution; resolution alone is not a likely explanation for a missing audio track.

3. Test where the sound disappears
If the source file plays correctly, isolate the delivery path with a private or unlisted YouTube test stream, or use a recording test. Compare what you hear in the source, the StreamYard output, and the YouTube destination to identify the first point where audio is missing. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guidance

- Silent in the source: Fix the edit or export and check the replacement file.
- Audible in the source but missing in StreamYard’s output: Re-encode using the recommended settings and test again.
- Audible in StreamYard’s output but not on YouTube: Check the YouTube player’s volume and mute state, then try the private or unlisted test again. This is a practical playback check, not a confirmed explanation for every silent player.
StreamYard says prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved to its library. Retain your original source file; to find the destination video, check YouTube. The YouTube link is created at the scheduled announcement time, or when the stream goes live if no announcement is scheduled. Workflow details can change, so check StreamYard’s current prerecorded-stream help page for the latest behavior.

4. Check microphone and browser settings only for live audio
If the missing sound is from a live microphone or guest—not from the prerecorded video—confirm that the correct microphone is selected and use StreamYard’s audio test. StreamYard recommends Chrome or Firefox and suggests disabling browser extensions that may interfere. Its audio recording is optimized for a 48,000 Hz (48 kHz) sample rate. Headphones can help prevent speaker sound from reaching a live microphone, which is useful for feedback or echo. They will not restore an audio track missing from a finished prerecorded file.

5. Separate connection errors from audio faults
If StreamYard reports a YouTube connection error, troubleshoot the connection separately: reconnect the account where appropriate, refresh, check connectivity, restart the browser or device, and review network speed and any extensions, firewall, proxy, or VPN that could interfere. These are connection checks, not evidence that a connection problem caused absent audio in a stream that was delivered successfully. StreamYard’s YouTube connection-error guide
