PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your StreamShark-powered YouTube live stream has no sound, first check whether the silence is only on your device or also in the encoder output. Unmute the YouTube player and your device, then check the audio source and mixer in the encoder. A silent player for one viewer usually calls for playback or connection checks; silence in the encoder or across viewers on separate connections points more strongly to the broadcast setup. The name StreamShark alone does not establish that StreamShark is at fault.
1. Check YouTube and your device first
- Unmute the YouTube player. Check its volume control and make sure playback is not muted.
- Check browser or app volume. Confirm the browser tab, YouTube app, or device is not muted, and that the device volume is audible. YouTube’s guidance is to “Make sure that sound/volume is turned on for your browser or device.” See YouTube’s no-sound troubleshooting steps.
- Select the intended sound output. Check the device’s sound settings and choose the speakers or headphones you are actually using.
- Restart the browser or device if those checks do not restore sound, then reopen the live stream.
2. Find out whether the problem is local or broadcast-side
Ask other viewers whether they can hear the stream, preferably people watching on different devices or internet connections. YouTube says a problem reported by one viewer probably comes from that viewer’s computer or internet connection; reports from viewers on different connections can indicate an encoder issue. This is a diagnostic clue, not a definitive verdict. You can also compare the YouTube watch page with an available embedded or alternate player, without assuming that an embed is necessarily the cause. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
| What you observe | Where to investigate first |
|---|---|
| One viewer hears silence; other viewers hear audio | That viewer’s player, browser or app, device volume, selected output, and connection. |
| The encoder preview or local recording is silent | The broadcaster’s audio source, mute state, and mixer routing. |
| Several viewers on separate connections hear silence, but the encoder preview and local recording have audio | Check the stream and encoder indicators, then contact the relevant streaming provider or encoder support with the evidence. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed StreamShark-specific fix for this case. |
3. Check whether audio reaches the encoder output
Listen in the encoder preview and, if available, make a local recording or check an archive of the output. If that output is silent, the problem occurs before or within the encoder rather than only in a viewer’s YouTube playback.
- Confirm the intended microphone, desktop audio, or other audio source is selected and enabled.
- Check that the source and master output are not muted, and that the mixer level is raised.
- Check the mixer routing so the intended source reaches the stream output. If multiple sources are being captured, such as both a microphone and desktop audio, review the software mixer to ensure the right ones are active.
StreamShark’s live-stream troubleshooting article also advises checking captured sources and adjusting the software mixer. A visible audio meter alone is not proof that audio reaches the final output, so use the preview or a local recording to check what is actually being sent.

4. Check OBS microphone setup and audio bitrate
Add the intended webcam microphone
If you expect a webcam microphone to carry the sound, do not assume that adding the webcam video automatically adds its microphone. StreamShark’s OBS webcam guide says to add the webcam microphone as an audio source in settings, then adjust its level in the mixer. Verify that this source is enabled and routed to the stream.
Use the bitrate listed for your output resolution
StreamShark’s OBS streaming guide lists these audio bitrate settings by transcode resolution:

| Transcode resolution | Audio bitrate listed in StreamShark’s guide |
|---|---|
| 240p or 360p | 96 Kbps |
| 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 2160p | 128 Kbps |
These are configuration values from the guide, not independent performance measurements. A matching bitrate does not prove that the source is unmuted or routed correctly, and the guide does not establish bitrate mismatch as the cause of total silence.
5. Troubleshoot based on what you hear
- You hear nothing in the encoder preview or local recording: verify the source is present, enabled, unmuted, and routed to the output; check the mixer level. Add the webcam microphone separately if that is the intended mic.
- The encoder output has sound, but only you cannot hear it on YouTube: check the player, browser or app, device volume, selected output, and connection.
- The encoder output has sound, but multiple viewers on different connections hear silence: note which viewers and playback routes are affected, check encoder and stream indicators, and contact the relevant provider or encoder support. Include the event details, encoder name, and whether a local recording has audio.
These checks narrow down where sound disappears; they do not guarantee that every StreamShark-to-YouTube audio problem has the same cause or repair.
