You can stream a pre-recorded video on YouTube using PRISM Live Studio for desktop by adding the local file as a Media Source in a scene, checking how it plays, and starting a live broadcast. This sends the video through a livestream; it does not upload it as a regular YouTube video or schedule it as a Premiere.
What you need to know before you start
PRISM Live Studio’s official FAQ says you can use video, image, and audio files in a livestream. The desktop workflow below is for PRISM on Windows and Mac: it uses a local media file as a scene source.
PRISM’s getting-started guide lists Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and Apple Silicon macOS Monterey 12.3 or higher. System requirements and interface details can change, so check the current PRISM Desktop guide for your computer before installing or troubleshooting.
How to stream a local video with PRISM Desktop

Connect your YouTube channel and set the stream details
In PRISM Desktop, add your YouTube channel from the channel list. Open Live Information and enter the stream title, category, visibility, and any other available details. PRISM says these details can be edited before going live or while a stream is in progress.

Choose a scene
Select an existing scene or create one, then use the Sources add control to add a source. A scene is the composition viewers will see; its sources are the elements in that composition.

Add the video as a Media Source
Choose Media Source and select the local video file you want to play. PRISM’s Media Source guide documents selecting a media file on Windows and Mac.

Apply the source if it does not start in Studio Mode
Studio Mode has an EDIT screen and a LIVE screen. Changes in EDIT do not reach viewers until you apply them to LIVE. PRISM notes that media sources may not play automatically when added in Studio Mode. Use either of these documented remedies:
- Before confirming the source, uncheck “Restart playback when source becomes active,” then click OK.
- Alternatively, leave that option as it is and click Apply in Studio Mode after adding the source.
These are alternative fixes for the documented playback behavior, not different streaming methods.

Preview the program and check audio
Preview the scene before broadcasting. Confirm that the video is visible and that the intended audio sources and levels are correct in PRISM. For a YouTube-only rehearsal, open the YouTube Live Info window and use Rehearsal if available. PRISM says Rehearsal is disabled during multistreaming and does not produce a replay; see its YouTube Rehearsal guide.

Go live, then finish the broadcast
Turn on the YouTube channel you intend to use and choose Go Live. PRISM’s flow includes a confirmation or edit step followed by another Go Live action to begin the broadcast. When you are done, choose Finish.

Desktop Media Source is not the mobile playlist feature
The desktop instructions above cover adding a local media file as a source. PRISM documents its Media Playlist feature separately for Android and iOS; that guide describes creating and ordering a video playlist on mobile. Do not assume those mobile playlist steps or controls are available in PRISM Desktop. See PRISM’s mobile Media Playlist guide for that workflow.

The cited PRISM guides do not specify a universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for this workflow. Use the current settings guidance shown for your YouTube stream and the capabilities of your connection rather than treating one set of numbers as suitable for every video or channel.
