Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Streamlabs Desktop says your YouTube stream key is wrong, first confirm which connection method you are using and that Streamlabs is sending to the intended YouTube event. If you entered a key manually, copy the current key from YouTube Studio and update the encoder. If you signed into YouTube through Streamlabs, do not assume a manual-key change will fix an account-integration error.
Diagnose the connection method before changing anything
Streamlabs Desktop can connect through a YouTube account-login and event-selection flow, or you can create an event in YouTube Studio and select it in Streamlabs. The right troubleshooting step depends on which route is active; the available documentation does not establish that one is universally better for a 24/7 broadcast.

- Account integration: You signed into YouTube from Streamlabs. If Streamlabs reports an integration error, YouTube directs users to contact the software provider.
- Manual key or Studio event: You created or selected a YouTube event and entered a stream key in the encoder. Check that the key is current and belongs to the intended channel and event.
Do not share or publish a stream key. Treat it like a password and update it only in the intended encoder settings.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix a manually entered stream key or event mismatch
- Confirm the intended event. In Streamlabs Desktop, open Go Live, choose the event created in YouTube Studio from the event drop-down, and confirm that it is the broadcast you intend to start.
- Copy the current key from YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live / Live Control Room, then open the stream setup and copy its current stream key.
- Update Streamlabs. Replace the key in the encoder’s stream settings with the current YouTube Studio key, then try starting the broadcast again. YouTube’s general remedy for an encoder-start error is to get a new key in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- If necessary, reset the key and update every encoder that uses it. Resetting invalidates the old key for encoders using it, so update those configurations before relying on them again. Never send the key to someone as a troubleshooting shortcut.
Changing the key is a targeted check, not proof that a stale key caused the error. If you use account login rather than a manually entered key, follow the account-integration path instead.

Try Streamlabs’ general connection troubleshooting
Streamlabs recommends checking that the key is correct, logging out, restarting Streamlabs Desktop as administrator, and then logging back in. For the connection or path errors covered by its troubleshooting guidance, it also recommends refreshing the selected streaming service and choosing a server rather than leaving it on Auto. These are general vendor troubleshooting steps, not a confirmed fix for every YouTube key error.
If you are using YouTube account integration and the error continues, contact Streamlabs support with the exact error text and the steps you have already tried. Do not include your stream key.

Use YouTube’s stream-health message to find other causes
If the event and key are correct, open YouTube Live Control Room and read the timestamped stream-health messages. A startup error can be caused by encoder output or the outbound connection rather than by the key. Follow the specific message instead of assuming every failure is an authentication problem.

Check format and bitrate
YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance identifies format and bitrate problems among possible issues. For its incorrect-format case, video should be H.264 and audio AAC. Check the encoder’s output settings against the message YouTube displays; do not change unrelated settings without a reason.

Separate encoder load from network instability
YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder and reviewing stream health and CPU load. If the encoder output looks healthy, investigate the outbound connection. A connection disruption can break a stream, and YouTube recommends leaving bandwidth headroom: its guidance is to keep available bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. A stable wired connection may help when network instability is the problem, but it will not repair a rejected key.
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If the channel is ineligible, correcting the key will not make it eligible to broadcast.

What changes when the broadcast is 24/7
A 24-hour continuous stream crosses YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not depend on YouTube to produce a complete replay of one continuous 24/7 broadcast. If you need a durable recording, arrange and monitor a local recording as a separate backup.

This affects seeking backward during a long broadcast; it is separate from whether Streamlabs can start the stream.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs rejects the key before video reaches YouTube | Whether you use account login or manual key entry; whether the selected Studio event is correct | For manual entry, copy the current key from Live Control Room and update Streamlabs. For an account-integration error, contact Streamlabs support. |
| YouTube receives the stream but reports an encoder error | The timestamped Live Control Room health message, video/audio format, bitrate, and encoder CPU load | Correct the specific reported output issue; YouTube’s listed incorrect-format case calls for H.264 video and AAC audio. |
| The stream starts but drops or becomes unstable | Encoder health and outbound connection stability | Investigate the network after confirming the encoder output is healthy; keep available bandwidth above the total stream bitrate, following YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation. |
| The channel cannot start a broadcast | Channel verification and any live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days | Resolve eligibility issues through YouTube; changing the encoder key does not bypass channel restrictions. |
| The 24/7 broadcast has no complete replay or limited rewind | Whether the continuous stream exceeded 12 hours | Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a complete recording; make and monitor a local recording if you need one. |
