Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf you send a prerecorded program through Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube Live, use YouTube’s live-stream bitrate recommendations—not its standard video-upload settings. For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps at 1080p30 or 17 Mbps at 1080p60. For AV1 or H.265/HEVC, it recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 or 12 Mbps at 1080p60. These are targets, not guarantees: choose a rate your connection can sustain and test the actual stream.
Recommended YouTube Live bitrate for 1080p
The right setting depends on the stream’s outgoing frame rate and video codec. “1080p” by itself is not enough to choose a bitrate. YouTube’s live encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, gives these recommendations:

| Video codec | 1080p30 | 1080p60 |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 14 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum | 17 Mbps recommended; 6 Mbps minimum |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps recommended; 4 Mbps minimum | 12 Mbps recommended; 4 Mbps minimum |
The minimum is a floor, not the suggested target. Use the recommended rate when your upload connection can deliver it reliably. YouTube’s live encoder settings are the source for these figures.

Check the outgoing frame rate
Set the bitrate for the frame rate Streamlabs Desktop actually sends to YouTube, not merely the frame rate of the prerecorded file. For a 30 fps output, use the 1080p30 column; for a 60 fps output, use the 1080p60 column. Sending 60 fps generally requires a higher bitrate than sending 30 fps at the same resolution.

Check the ingest codec
Use the row matching the encoder codec that Streamlabs Desktop sends. If the output uses H.264, use the H.264 recommendation. If it uses AV1 or H.265/HEVC, use that row. Do not select a lower value on the assumption that the prerecorded file’s own encoding determines the live ingest requirement: YouTube receives an encoded live stream from the software.
Other live encoder settings that matter
YouTube’s live guidance recommends the following alongside bitrate. These are encoder settings for a live broadcast, including a prerecorded program being played out as live:

Make sure your upload connection can sustain the bitrate
The configured bitrate is only useful if your connection can maintain it throughout the stream. If upload capacity fluctuates or is too low, the result can include dropped frames or an unstable broadcast. YouTube advises testing the upload bitrate and testing the stream before going live. Include audio and movement similar to the actual program, then watch YouTube’s stream health indicators and messages during the broadcast.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
- Measure and test the upload connection you will use for the stream.
- Run a test stream at the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate.
- Include representative audio and video activity rather than testing only a static frame.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and encoder messages; lower the output bitrate or resolve connection instability if the stream cannot hold its target.
Streamlabs Desktop has a dynamic bitrate feature that can adjust bitrate when frames drop. It may help with changing network conditions, but it does not replace testing for reliable upload capacity. Streamlabs’ general guide includes example rates specifically for Twitch; those examples should not be substituted for YouTube’s platform-specific recommendations. See Streamlabs’ dynamic bitrate guidance and its Streamlabs Desktop setup guidance.
Prerecorded live stream or ordinary video upload?
A prerecorded video does not change the relevant bitrate table if Streamlabs Desktop is sending it to YouTube as a live broadcast. Use the live recommendations above. If instead you upload the file as a regular YouTube video, the separate SDR upload recommendations apply: YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 1080p at 24, 25, or 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 48, 50, or 60 fps. Those upload values are not live-stream targets. See YouTube’s video upload encoding settings.

Common bitrate problems and fixes
Stream health reports dropped frames
The upload connection may not be sustaining the configured rate. Test the connection and stream under realistic conditions; if the problem continues, lower the bitrate to a stable level or address network instability. Streamlabs’ dynamic bitrate may adjust the rate when frames drop.

The stream looks worse than expected despite matching the recommendation
A recommended bitrate is not a promise of a particular picture quality. Confirm that the output resolution, frame rate, and codec match the column you selected, and check YouTube’s stream health. A 1080p60 stream uses a different recommendation from 1080p30.
