Can your PC or Mac run Streamlabs Desktop?
Check the operating system first
The Windows minimum is not consistent across Streamlabs’ official pages. The system-requirements article and May 2026 Quick Start Guide say Windows 11, while the download page says Windows 10+. Do not assume that Windows 10 is supported just because it appears on the download page, or that the discrepancy has been resolved. Verify the current installer’s compatibility and consult the current support article before upgrading or installing.

On macOS, the requirements article lists macOS 12 or later as the minimum and advises macOS 13 or newer for continued long-term support. The Quick Start Guide likewise lists macOS 12 as minimum and macOS 13 or newer as recommended.
Compare memory, processor and graphics
Eight gigabytes of RAM is the listed minimum in both official guides. Streamlabs recommends 16 GB or more. Its requirements article does not state minimum CPU or GPU models, so a computer with a processor or graphics chip outside the recommended families cannot be declared unsupported from that article alone. The Quick Start Guide lists integrated graphics as a minimum, but it does not name a minimum processor.

The named recommended parts are guidance, not a guarantee that every game, scene or output setting will perform well. Streamlabs notes that resource-intensive games or digital-art workloads, animated overlays, advanced plugins, other running programs and the user’s hardware can all affect performance.

The Quick Start Guide lists 10 GB of hard-drive space in its minimum column; the requirements article does not specify a minimum storage capacity. The recommended storage guidance is a 512 GB SSD or larger. Streamlabs recommends Ethernet, but does not state a minimum connection type in its requirements table.

For upload bandwidth, Streamlabs says 3.6 Mbps or better is enough for 720p at 30 fps on most platforms. That is general guidance, not a universal platform requirement; check the streaming platform’s current requirements for your intended resolution and frame rate.
How to decide whether an upgrade is worthwhile
- Record your system details. Check your Windows or macOS version, installed RAM, processor, graphics hardware, free storage and whether you can use Ethernet.
- Resolve the OS discrepancy before installing. Compare your Windows version with the current download page and support article; the official pages cited above differ on whether Windows 10 is a minimum.
- Compare against the recommended configuration. Prioritize the areas below guidance—especially RAM if you have less than 16 GB—while accounting for what you intend to stream and what else will run at the same time.
- Check compatibility before buying parts. Confirm your computer supports the memory generation and capacity, SSD form factor and interface, and any CPU or GPU replacement. Streamlabs names component families, not upgrade picks for every computer.
- Test your actual scene and workload. A configuration that launches the app may still struggle with an intensive game, animated overlays, plugins or other demanding software.
When hardware meets the checklist but streaming still struggles
- Streamlabs will not install or launch: Confirm the operating-system version against the current installer and support information, particularly if using Windows 10 given the official-page conflict.
- Performance drops while streaming a game or creating digital art: Those workloads can compete with the streaming app for system resources. Close unnecessary programs and reduce workload or scene complexity; the listed recommendations do not guarantee performance for every workload.
- Animated overlays or advanced plugins cause problems: Temporarily disable them to isolate whether they are contributing to the issue.
- The stream is unstable despite suitable hardware: Check upload speed and prefer Ethernet where available. The 3.6 Mbps guidance applies to 720p at 30 fps on most platforms, not every output configuration.
- You are unsure whether a component is the bottleneck: Compare the system with the recommended categories one at a time rather than assuming a GPU, CPU or storage upgrade will fix every issue.
