If Streamlabs’ chatbot is not joining chat, responding to commands, posting timers, or launching, first check which product you use: the installed, Windows-only Desktop Chatbot or the separate dashboard-based Cloudbot. Their setup and fixes are different. This guide covers both, with older Desktop Chatbot advice clearly marked as legacy.
First, identify which Streamlabs chatbot you’re using
Streamlabs has separate documentation for its installed Desktop Chatbot and its dashboard-based Cloudbot. The legacy Desktop Chatbot FAQ describes the app as Windows-only; it points Linux and Mac users to Cloudbot. Don’t apply one product’s menus or troubleshooting steps to the other. Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide covers Twitch, YouTube, and Kick. The Desktop Chatbot FAQ contains older instructions for the installed app.
Set up Cloudbot
- Enable it in the dashboard. Open the Streamlabs dashboard and turn on Cloudbot for the platform and channel you intend to use.
- Give it moderator permission in your channel. For Twitch and Kick, Streamlabs’ guide says to enter
/mod Streamlabsin chat. For YouTube, add Streamlabs as a moderator through YouTube Studio settings. - Configure what it should do. The guide covers default and custom commands, moderation tools, loyalty, and modules. Start with a default command to verify the connection before troubleshooting a custom setup.
Cloudbot is not joining or responding
Check these in order, changing one item at a time so you can tell which fix worked. Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guide is dated 2021 and was updated in July 2026; its instructions describe the documented workflow, not a guarantee that a restart will resolve every connection problem. - Confirm Cloudbot is enabled for the right platform in the Streamlabs dashboard, and that it has moderator permission in the matching channel.
- Check whether the bot appears in the viewer list. If it does not, revisit the platform selection and permissions before adjusting individual commands.
- Test at least one command. Try a default command or a simple test command without extra permission settings. If that works, focus on the failing command’s configuration.
- For YouTube, make sure the stream is public. Streamlabs says a public stream is required for Cloudbot to join and trigger commands.
- Try the documented restart check. Turn Cloudbot off, wait 2–10 minutes, then turn it back on. Streamlabs lists this as a troubleshooting step; it is not a guaranteed repair.
Cloudbot commands do not work
- Confirm the command is enabled and that its spelling and syntax are correct.
- Try a default command or a simple test command without permission restrictions. If that works, compare its settings with the command that fails.
- Check who is allowed to use the command, its cooldown, and whether it requires loyalty points. A points cost or permission rule can make a working command appear unresponsive to some viewers.
Cloudbot timers do not post
Confirm the timer is enabled, then check both conditions attached to it: its time interval and its minimum chat-line requirement. Streamlabs says that when a line minimum is set, only chat from the most recent five minutes counts toward it. A quiet chat may therefore leave a timer waiting even after its interval has passed.

Legacy Desktop Chatbot: command and timer checks
The following steps come from Streamlabs’ legacy Desktop Chatbot FAQ. Its interface and version context may have changed, so labels may differ from what you see now.
A command fails
- Check that the command’s usage destination matches where you are testing it.
- Review its permission, cost, and cooldown settings. Broadcaster cooldown exceptions do not apply to everyone else.
- Streamlabs says restarting the bot clears cooldowns. Treat that as legacy FAQ guidance rather than a guarantee for every current version.
A timer does not post
The legacy FAQ says the stream must be live and the bot connected to Streamlabs. Check those conditions as well as whether the timer is configured to run.

Desktop Chatbot messages appear in its console, but not in stream chat
Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ says this most likely means the bot is connected to the wrong channel. Open Connections, open the bot connection, and compare its streamer channel with the name of the channel actually streaming. Correct the connection if they do not match.
Desktop Chatbot will not launch or keeps crashing
The launch and crash advice in Streamlabs’ Desktop Chatbot FAQ dates from 2017. It mentions Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables, administrator privileges, Windows Defender history, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner. Those are historical troubleshooting leads, not verified current instructions. Before installing a runtime, changing security settings, or changing another program’s configuration, check current guidance from Microsoft and the software vendors involved. Avoid downloading runtime installers from unofficial sites.

Keep the Streamlabs bot distinction clear
Cloudbot is a dashboard service with its own platform setup and troubleshooting. Desktop Chatbot refers to the installed Windows app described in Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ. Streamlabs maintains separate help material for them; the Cloudbot guide should not be treated as a set of Desktop Chatbot screens.
