You can stream PS4 gameplay to Discord without a capture card by running Sony’s PS Remote Play app on a Windows PC or Mac, then sharing that app window in Discord. The computer connects to your PS4 and displays its screen; Discord Go Live shares that window with people in a voice channel. This is a software-based workaround, not a native PS4-to-Discord broadcast feature.
What you need
- A PS4 with Remote Play enabled and access to the PlayStation account used on the console.
- A compatible Windows PC or Mac with the PS Remote Play app installed.
- A DUALSHOCK 4 controller connected to the computer. Sony’s setup guidance specifies a USB connection; check that your cable supports data and has the right connector.
- A network connection that meets Sony’s Remote Play guidance: at least 5 Mbps upload and download, with at least 15 Mbps recommended for better performance. Those are Sony’s connection recommendations, not a guarantee of Discord stream quality.
- Discord desktop access and permission to share in the voice channel or call.
Sony currently lists Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, and macOS Big Sur through Sequoia, among the PC and Mac requirements. Check PlayStation’s PS Remote Play support page for current compatibility and setup details, since requirements can change.

Enable Remote Play on your PS4
- On the PS4, open Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- Open Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, then select Activate. Sony says this activation can be enabled on only one PS4 for each account.
- If you want to wake the console remotely from Rest Mode, open Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable the options to stay connected to the internet and turn on the PS4 from the network.
Connect your computer to the PS4
- Install Sony’s PS Remote Play app on the Windows PC or Mac you plan to use.
- Sign in to the app with the PlayStation account used on the PS4.
- Connect a compatible DUALSHOCK 4 controller to the computer with a USB cable.
- Launch PS Remote Play and choose PS4. When the connection succeeds, the console screen appears in the app window.
Sony describes the app as a way to control a PS4 from a PC or Mac over a high-speed network. Its guidance is at least 5 Mbps upload and download, with at least 15 Mbps recommended for better performance; actual results can vary with the network environment.

Share the PS Remote Play window in Discord
- Open Discord on desktop and join the voice channel or call where you want to stream.
- Select the screen-streaming icon.
- Choose the PS Remote Play application window rather than the entire desktop, then select Go Live.
Discord’s Go Live and Screen Share guidance covers sharing an application window or an entire screen in a server or voice call. Audio capture depends on the client: Discord says it is supported on Windows desktop, macOS desktop, Chrome browser, and mobile clients; Linux audio sharing is unavailable. Do not assume game audio will be captured identically on every setup.

What this method does—and does not do
- It shares gameplay video through a computer. The PS4 picture reaches Discord by way of the PS Remote Play app window.
- Linking PSN is not gameplay streaming. Discord may show which PS4 or PS5 game you are playing as activity, but linking accounts does not send your console’s video to Discord. See Discord’s Discord and PlayStation Network Connection FAQ.
- Discord console voice chat guidance is for PS5, not PS4 video sharing. Discord says, “Transferring Discord voice chat is only available on the PS5.” That feature concerns voice chat, not broadcasting a PS4 screen.
- It is not compatible with simultaneous console broadcasting. Sony lists broadcasting from a PS4 or PS5 as a Remote Play restriction, so do not start a broadcast from the console while using Remote Play.
If the stream does not work
- The PS4 does not connect: Confirm Remote Play is enabled, the console is on or configured for network wake, and the PS4 system software is current. If automatic discovery fails, use the manual registration or pairing options in the console’s Remote Play settings, following Sony’s support instructions.
- The Remote Play picture is unavailable in a game or app: Some games and media functions are not compatible with Remote Play. Sony also lists disc-player scenarios among its restrictions; consult its Remote Play requirements and setup guidance.
- Discord will not start sharing: Check that you have permission to share in that channel or call, then select the PS Remote Play window from Discord’s screen-share options.
- Viewers cannot hear the game: Confirm the client you are using supports audio capture and check Discord’s current screen-share audio guidance. Video sharing and audio capture do not have identical platform support.
