Yes—you can host a small AI app on a cloud platform and share a URL instead of keeping your laptop running as its server. The simplest route depends on what you have already built: Streamlit, a general Python or Node web app, a source directory or container, or an ML demo. “Free” has limits, though: a host may sleep or restart, local files may disappear, and hosting your app does not automatically provide free model inference.
Choose a host that matches your app
First identify where inference happens. If your app calls a hosted model API, the cloud host runs your app while the model provider handles inference; API usage may still cost money. If the app loads a model and performs inference itself, the host needs enough memory and compute for that model. A free web-app tier should not be treated as free GPU hosting for an arbitrary model.

| App type | Potential starting point | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Existing Streamlit app | Streamlit Community Cloud | Deploy from a repository by selecting the branch and app entrypoint. Streamlit describes Community Cloud as intended for non-commercial, personal, and educational apps. |
| Python or Node server, such as FastAPI, Flask, Express, or Django | Render | Render offers free web services, but they sleep after inactivity and are not intended for production applications. |
| App deployed from a source directory | Google Cloud Run | Cloud Run can build and deploy source with gcloud run deploy; its monthly free allowance is subject to account, billing, and usage rules. |
| Gradio or other ML demo | Hugging Face Spaces | Spaces is built for demos, but free compute depends on Space type and account eligibility. A free personal account in good standing can run up to two Gradio Spaces on ZeroGPU, according to the current overview. |
These services are not interchangeable guarantees. Compare supported framework and deployment workflow, inference requirements, idle behavior, data persistence, access controls, and what happens when a quota or trial ends. For Cloud Run, a free-tier allowance does not establish that a particular model workload will stay within it.
Prepare the app before deploying
A cloud host needs to know how to install your dependencies and start the application. Before deployment, make the app reproducible: include a dependency declaration, identify the entrypoint, and determine the correct start command for your framework. Test it from a clean environment so missing packages or laptop-specific paths do not appear only after deployment.

- Keep source code and dependency files together in a repository or the source directory expected by the host.
- Separate configuration from code. Store API keys and passwords in the host’s supported secrets configuration, not in source control.
- Decide where data that must survive restarts will live. A host’s app filesystem may be temporary; use an appropriate database or object store and check its own pricing and retention rules.
- Check whether the app loads a model locally or calls an external model API, and estimate the memory, compute, and usage charges each path entails.
Deploy through the host’s workflow
For Streamlit Community Cloud
- Push the app and its dependencies to a repository supported by Streamlit Community Cloud.
- In the deployment flow, select the repository, branch, and Streamlit entrypoint file.
- Select a Python version that still receives security updates, then configure secrets in the provided secrets field rather than committing them to the repository. Streamlit’s deployment page accessed on October 4, 2026 listed Python 3.12 as the default; runtime availability can change, so check the current page.
- Deploy, inspect the app and logs, then share the assigned
streamlit.appURL.
For Render
- Connect a repository through a supported Git provider and create a web service for an app that must receive HTTP requests. A fully static front end needs a static site service instead.
- Set the runtime, build command, and start command required by the app, plus any environment variables or secrets.
- Deploy from the dashboard, CLI, or another documented workflow, then inspect logs and open the service URL.
- Test a visit after the service has been idle and verify that important data survives a restart. Do not rely on the free service’s local filesystem for durable data.
For Cloud Run from source
- Install and configure the Google Cloud CLI, choose a service name, and prepare the app source directory.
- From that directory, run
gcloud run deploy SERVICE --source ., replacingSERVICEwith the desired service name. Google’s source deployment uses buildpacks and Cloud Build by default, so a local Docker installation is not required for that path. - Configure authentication and sensitive values for the service. Google recommends Secret Manager for API keys, passwords, and other sensitive information rather than putting them in source code or ordinary environment-variable configuration.
- Review billing settings, deployment logs, and the resulting service URL before sharing it.
For Hugging Face Spaces
Create a Space using a supported SDK or container approach that matches the demo. Choose visibility deliberately: public Spaces expose both source and app; protected Spaces hide source while leaving the running app publicly accessible; private Spaces restrict both the app and source. Check the current Space type and account rules before relying on free compute.
What “free” means on these platforms
| Platform | Published free offering or limit | Operational caveats |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Run | Google’s free-tier page accessed in 2026 lists up to 2 million requests per month, alongside compute and outbound-transfer limits. | Eligibility and billing-account configuration apply. A new-customer trial provides $300 credit for 90 days, separate from the ongoing monthly free tier. Usage beyond free limits on a paid account is billed; trial resources can stop when the trial ends if the account is not upgraded. |
| Render | Free web services spin down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic and take about a minute to spin back up, according to Render’s free-plan documentation accessed in 2026. | Services can restart at any time and have ephemeral filesystems; local changes are lost after restart, redeploy, or spin-down. Render says not to use free instances for production applications. Free Postgres is limited to 1 GB and expires 30 days after creation, followed by a 14-day upgrade grace period before deletion. Static sites are free but count against included bandwidth and build pipeline amounts. |
| Streamlit Community Cloud | Deployment from a repository and a streamlit.app subdomain are documented by Streamlit; its overview says the free cloud is a fit for non-commercial, personal, and educational apps. |
Runtime versions and account terms can change. Check the deployment page for currently supported Python versions and configuration requirements. |
| Hugging Face Spaces | Static Spaces are free. The current overview says eligible free personal accounts in good standing can host up to two Gradio Spaces running on ZeroGPU. | Gradio and Docker Spaces otherwise require paid plans to create. Verify account eligibility and the current rules before planning around GPU capacity. |
Cloud Run also supports GPU-configured services, including services using L4 GPUs, for inference and other compute-heavy workloads. That capability does not mean GPU inference for your model is free. For any provider, confirm eligible regions, quotas, and billing behavior for your account and workload before making a public app dependent on them.

After deployment: verify the app’s limits
- Test the public URL: open it from a device or browser session that is not relying on your local development server.
- Check idle behavior: visit again after a period without traffic to see whether a cold start or restart affects the experience.
- Check persistence: submit any app data that matters, restart or redeploy if practical, and confirm it is stored outside ephemeral local storage.
- Check costs and exposure: review host usage and the model provider’s usage separately, and confirm the app does not expose secrets or private data through its source, logs, or interface.
