Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo remove a Google suggestion, first identify what kind it is: a trending-search prediction, a personalized prediction, a saved Google Search, or a browser/device suggestion. Each has a separate control. Turning off trending searches will not delete your saved searches, and deleting account history will not necessarily clear suggestions kept by your browser.
Google calls predictions that appear while you type autocomplete. Its Search settings are being updated gradually, so labels and menus may differ by account, app version, platform, or rollout. If a path below does not match what you see, follow the equivalent label currently shown in your account.

Turn off trending searches on a computer
This stops autocomplete from showing trending searches in the desktop Search setting. It does not delete prior searches or necessarily turn off every personalized prediction.
- Go to google.com.
- At the bottom of the page, select Settings, then Search settings.
- In the left navigation, select Other settings.
- Under Desktop, turn off Autocomplete with trending searches. Google documents this route in its Manage Google autocomplete predictions – Computer help page.
Turn off trending searches in the Google app
On Android
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial, then Settings and Other settings.
- Tap Autocomplete settings.
- Turn off Autocomplete with trending searches. This applies to the Google app on the phone or tablet you are using, as described in Google’s Android autocomplete instructions.
In a mobile browser
The app setting does not automatically change the setting for google.com in a browser. Open google.com in the mobile browser, use its profile or settings menus, open Other settings, and turn off Autocomplete with trending searches there.

Change personalized and related-search suggestions

Google says turning off Search personalization stops predictions based on previous searches. Its settings are transitioning gradually to separate Search Services History and Personalized Recommendations controls. Some accounts may still show older labels such as Web & App Activity or Search personalization. Google notes that Web & App Activity can still control some other Google services; see its Search services settings guidance.
Turning off personalization is not the same as deleting activity. Google says it does not pause or delete activity stored in your account, and it does not disable the ability to find past searches in autocomplete. Use Search history controls if you want to remove saved searches.

Google says you can stop related searches based on recent searches by turning off Search customization. On desktop, go to google.com, then Settings and Search settings, and find the Search customization control. In the Android Google app, open your profile menu, then Settings, Privacy & Safety, and Search customization. Labels may vary during the settings transition.

Use this option to remove searches saved to your Google Account, rather than merely changing which predictions are personalized. Google’s Android instructions allow deletion by individual item, day, a custom time range, or all time through the Google app’s profile menu and Search history. Google warns that deletion is irreversible.

To stop future account saving, open Search history, then Controls, and turn off Web & App Activity, if that control is shown. People included in the gradual settings rollout may instead see the newer Search services controls. Google also offers auto-delete choices for activity older than 3, 18, or 36 months; these are available settings intervals, not a guarantee that every suggestion source is cleared.
Google says deletion first removes activity from view and prevents its use for personalization, then begins a process designed to remove it from storage. Some data may be retained for limited business or legal purposes, so deletion should not be understood as instant or absolute erasure. See Google’s Search history deletion instructions.

Why Google suggestions may still appear
- A different suggestion source is still active. Trending searches, personalized predictions, account history, and local browser or device history use different controls. Check which source matches the suggestion and change that setting.
- Your browser has its own history. A browser may keep activity even when Google Account history is not saved or has been deleted. Clear history separately using that browser’s controls.
- You searched in the Google app while signed out. Google says signed-out searches in the app can be saved on the phone or tablet. Check the app’s Search customization controls as well as local history.
- A device has not synced yet. A device that was offline during deletion may continue to show history until it reconnects. Google says clearing cache and cookies may help if a display persists after syncing.
Report an inappropriate autocomplete prediction
If a prediction appears to violate Google’s policies, you can report it rather than trying to remove it only from your personal settings. On desktop, use the reporting link beneath the prediction. In the Android app, touch and hold the prediction and select Report this. Google reviews reports but may not remove the prediction; its help page says, “Google looks at what you said, but might not remove the prediction.” For a legal issue, Google provides a separate form. See the Android autocomplete help page.
