1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFirst, a correction: the SteelSeries Aeon Pro is a gaming controller, not a headset. Its battery system, base station, Bluetooth mode and compatibility therefore work differently from SteelSeries Arctis or Nova headsets. You can charge the controller through USB-C, charge it on the included dock, or keep playing by alternating its two removable batteries.
What the Aeon Pro is and how its battery system works
Aeon Pro is a wireless gaming controller supplied with a base station and two replaceable batteries. One battery powers the controller while the other can sit in the dock’s dedicated charging slot. When the battery in the controller is depleted, exchange it for the charged spare and place the depleted unit in the dock. This arrangement is why SteelSeries Support describes the system as extending battery life “endlessly”: the phrase refers to alternating batteries, not to one battery lasting forever.

The package includes the controller, base station, two batteries and a USB-C-to-USB-A cable. The base station is both a wireless connection hub for supported devices and a charging dock. It has pogo-pin contacts for charging the controller when it is seated correctly, plus a separate slot for charging the spare battery.
That dual-battery design changes how you should plan charging. Instead of waiting for the controller to recharge after every long session, keep one battery installed and the other in the dock. When the installed battery runs low, swap them, then immediately start charging the depleted unit. The system only works as an effectively continuous rotation if the spare is charged and the replacement is seated correctly.

How to charge the controller
USB-C charging from the top port
- Connect the included USB-C-to-USB-A cable to the USB-C charging port on top of the controller.
- Connect the USB-A end to a suitable powered USB source.
- Leave the battery installed while it charges.
The official product guide explains the connection method but does not state how long a completely depleted battery takes to reach a full charge. Do not rely on a guessed charging-time figure. A USB-C connection is also the straightforward fallback if the base station contacts are not making a connection.
Charging on the base station
- Place the controller on the base station.
- Align the controller’s charging contacts with the dock’s pogo pins.
- Confirm that it is seated fully rather than resting at an angle.
The dock can charge the battery installed in the controller. It can also charge the second battery independently in its dedicated battery slot, allowing you to prepare a spare while you play. Dock charging therefore handles both the controller and the next battery in the rotation, provided the base station has power.
Charging a loose replacement battery
Remove the battery from the controller and insert it into the battery slot on the base station. The guide documents this as a normal charging method; no separate charger is required for the included batteries. This slot is especially useful after a swap: the battery you just removed can begin charging immediately while the charged one powers the controller.

How to swap the two batteries
Use this sequence when the controller battery is low and the spare in the dock is charged:
- Stop using the controller and turn it over.
- Remove the battery-compartment cover.
- Take out the depleted battery.
- Install the charged battery from the dock, observing the compartment’s orientation.
- Replace the cover securely before resuming play.
- Put the depleted battery into the base station’s battery-charging slot.
Because both batteries are removable, you do not have to wait for the controller itself to recharge before continuing. Keep the spare in the dock whenever possible so the two batteries remain in rotation. If a swap appears not to work, check that the cover is fully closed and that the battery is oriented correctly; an improperly seated battery can look like a charging or pairing fault.
How long the Aeon Pro battery lasts
SteelSeries publishes different estimates for different connection setups. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements, and the support material says actual runtime depends on setup.

| Setup | Published estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Headset connected to the controller | 12.5 hours | SteelSeries Support estimate; actual time can vary. |
| Connected to Xbox | 12.5 hours | SteelSeries Support estimate; Xbox connection uses the base station. |
| Connected to PC without a headset connected | 11.5 hours | SteelSeries Support estimate for this specific setup. |
| Bluetooth connection | 14 hours | SteelSeries Support estimate; actual time can vary by device and use. |
The figures do not have a publication year in the cited support material, so they should not be presented as measurements from a particular year or as guaranteed minimums. They are useful for planning, but lighting, wireless conditions, headset use and other settings can affect real runtime.
Which connection has the longest stated runtime?
Bluetooth has the highest published estimate at 14 hours. Xbox and a controller with a headset connected are listed at 12.5 hours, while PC use without a headset is listed at 11.5 hours. Those numbers describe different operating conditions, so they are not a laboratory ranking of every mode. Choose the mode required by your platform first, then use the relevant estimate as a planning reference.
Why PC runtime can be lower than console or headset use
SteelSeries attributes the difference to polling rate. PC use without a headset uses a 1,000 Hz polling rate. Console use, or use with a headset plugged into the controller, locks polling at 250 Hz and therefore uses less battery according to the manufacturer. This is SteelSeries’ explanation for the published figures, not an independently verified power test.
How to pair Aeon Pro over Bluetooth
The manual’s procedure uses the controller’s OLED menu:
- Turn on the controller.
- Hold the Menu and View buttons for three seconds.
- When the OLED menu opens, enter System Select.
- Choose Bluetooth.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, computer or television.
- Select Aeon Pro from the available devices.
Bluetooth is intended for PC and mobile gaming in SteelSeries’ support documentation. The manual’s matrix also lists iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android and compatible smart TVs. Bluetooth pairing is separate from the 2.4 GHz wireless link through the base station. Selecting Bluetooth in the OLED menu is therefore a connection-mode change, not a way to make the base station’s Xbox link wireless through Bluetooth.

Compatibility depends on the connection mode
There is no single “all platforms” mode. The official guide names these platforms for each connection type:
Rank #3
- Compatible with Android smartphones, tablets, Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and other supported Bluetooth devices.
- Delivers a reliable wireless connection for responsive and low-latency gaming.
- Equipped with Hall Effect analog sticks and clickable L3/R3 thumbsticks for accurate control and durability.
- Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides extended playtime on a single charge.
- Professionally inspected, tested, and cleaned to meet Amazon Renewed quality standards.
| Connection mode | Platforms named in the guide | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless 2.4 GHz | Xbox, PC | Base station |
| USB-C wired | Xbox, PC, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android | USB cable and a compatible USB connection |
| Bluetooth wireless | PC, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android, smart TVs | Bluetooth pairing; no Xbox Bluetooth support is listed |
The support article summarizes the arrangement as Xbox through the base station, PC through either the base station or Bluetooth, and mobile gaming through Bluetooth. The broader manual matrix adds wired support for several mobile and Apple platforms and names smart TVs for Bluetooth.
Platform support is therefore a question of both device and link. For example, a PC can use the base station, Bluetooth or USB-C, while Xbox wireless requires the base station. An iPhone or Android device appears in the wired matrix and can also use Bluetooth, but neither is listed for the 2.4 GHz base-station mode. A smart TV is named for Bluetooth only in the matrix.
Can Aeon Pro work without the base station?
Yes, but only for connection methods that do not require it. You can use Bluetooth with a listed PC, mobile device or smart TV, or connect by USB-C to a platform named in the wired compatibility table. Xbox wireless operation requires the base station; do not expect the controller to pair directly with Xbox over Bluetooth.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The base station is also useful when you want 2.4 GHz wireless operation on Xbox or PC, simultaneous dock charging, or a convenient place to keep the spare battery charged. “Works without the base station” does not mean every feature is available without it: the dock is still needed for its pogo-contact charging and independent battery slot.
Choosing between 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth and USB-C
Use 2.4 GHz with the base station for Xbox
Xbox is listed for the base-station wireless mode and for USB-C wired operation. It is not listed for Bluetooth. If you want wireless Xbox play, connect the base station rather than trying to select Bluetooth from the controller menu.
Use Bluetooth for mobile devices and supported televisions
Bluetooth avoids the dock and cable, making it the practical choice for phones, tablets, Macs and compatible smart TVs. The manual specifically names iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android and smart TVs, while the support article describes mobile gaming through Bluetooth.

Use USB-C when you need a direct wired link
USB-C is listed for Xbox, PC, iOS, iPadOS, macOS and Android. It can be useful when wireless pairing is unavailable or when you want to keep playing while managing battery power through a cable. The included cable is already intended for charging, so owners do not need to buy one unless a replacement is required.

Troubleshooting charging and connection problems
The controller does not charge on the dock
- Reseat the controller so its contacts meet the dock’s pogo pins.
- Check that the dock itself has a power connection.
- Try the top USB-C port and the included cable to determine whether the problem is limited to the dock contact.
- If the controller battery is depleted, move it to the dock’s separate battery slot and install the charged spare.
The spare battery is not ready
- Confirm that the spare is fully inserted into the dedicated charging slot.
- After swapping, place the depleted battery in that slot rather than leaving it outside the dock.
- Check the battery’s orientation and the compartment cover when reinstalling it in the controller.
Bluetooth pairing does not appear
- Turn on the controller.
- Hold Menu and View for three seconds to open the OLED menu.
- Choose System Select, then Bluetooth.
- Refresh the device’s Bluetooth list and select “Aeon Pro.”
If you are trying to connect an Xbox wirelessly, switch to the base-station connection instead; Xbox Bluetooth pairing is not listed in the official compatibility information.
Replacement batteries and included accessories
SteelSeries says Aeon Pro batteries are compatible with batteries for Arctis Nova Pro, Arctis Nova Pro Omni and Arctis Nova Elite products. Compatibility should still be checked against the exact replacement listing before purchase, because a retailer’s description may cover only some models or revisions. Do not assume that every battery sold under the Nova name is interchangeable without that confirmation.
The USB-C-to-USB-A cable and base station are included with the controller. A replacement cable is relevant only if the supplied one is lost or damaged. Likewise, a separate dock is not normally needed for an owner who already has the included base station; the most useful spare part is an accurately identified compatible battery.
What the official information does not establish
The published material does not provide a full-charge duration, an independent battery test, a dated publication year for the runtime estimates, current pricing, stock status or regional availability. Treat the four runtime figures as planning estimates rather than guarantees, and check the current product guide for any later firmware or compatibility changes.
